Dementia is one of the most pressing health challenges of our time, affecting more than 55 million people worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. It is often misunderstood as a natural part of aging, but in reality, dementia is a syndrome caused by a variety of brain illnesses, with Alzheimer’s disease being the most common. While age and genetics play a role, lifestyle factors such as stress, diet, exercise, and social engagement significantly influence the risk of developing dementia.
Despite how widespread it is, dementia remains shrouded in taboo and silence. For many, a diagnosis is feared, avoided, or hidden. Conversations about cognitive decline are often filled with shame and stigma, which can make individuals and families feel isolated and powerless. Yet, it is precisely these conversations that we need to bring into the light.
That is why I am honored to introduce a new monthly podcast conversation with Laurin Wittig — intuitive mentor, author, podcaster, and founder of HeartLight Wellness. Laurin has recently been diagnosed with the precursors to dementia, and she has courageously chosen to share her journey openly. Rather than retreat into fear, Laurin is exploring how energy medicine, self-care practices, and ancestral healing can provide pathways to resilience, empowerment, and hope.
Together, on the Be Well with Dr Michelle Greenwell podcast, we will be:
- Breaking the taboo around dementia by speaking openly about the emotional, physical, and spiritual impact of a diagnosis.
- Exploring science and self-care, weaving current research with holistic practices to reveal the many ways we can influence our brain health and overall wellness.
- Challenging the narrative of aging, showing that awareness and proactive habits can change the trajectory of our health.
- Honoring ancestral patterns and recognizing how generational trauma, lifestyle, and even historical events can influence our present-day health.
Each conversation will highlight not just the challenges of dementia but also the opportunities for healing, growth, and deeper connection. We will discuss tools such as the Injury Recall Technique, Figure 8 Hook-ups from Wayne Cook, and other BioEnergetic Wellness practices that can ease emotional burden and support balance in the body.
And, as always, our discussions will be anchored in a tea ritual. For our first episode, we share TEAlightful, a blend of fireweed, dandelion petals, ginger, hibiscus, and vanilla. Its affirmation is: “Stop time with this ancient blend from the garden.” This tea invites us to pause, listen, and receive wisdom from both nature and our ancestors — a perfect reflection of Laurin’s journey.
💡 Why this matters:
By bringing dementia into open conversation, we not only reduce the stigma but also empower ourselves to be proactive. Whether it’s through reducing stress, adopting nourishing habits, or engaging in spiritual and energetic practices, we all have the capacity to support brain health and approach aging with more grace and awareness.
I invite you to join us each month as we walk with Laurin on this path of discovery. Together, we will shine a light on dementia, transform fear into empowerment, and learn how to honor our bodies, our minds, and our spirits in every season of life.
