The Key to Our Hearts

October 18, 2024

Weaving Gaelic Culture and Music through the show, the addition of colour, and tea rituals in Cape Breton bring a focus to traditional songs about tea and gatherings.  Your tea host will be Dr Michelle Greenwell, and she will be featuring some special tea traditions and teas from the Cape Breton Tea Company.

Mairi Britton, a harpist, dancer and singer living in Hillsborough, Cape Breton, and an archivist for the Language and Learnings project at Cape Breton University will be highlighting some special songs she has discovered in the archives.  Mairi originates from Scotland, and calls Cape Breton home.

Bradley Murphy, a fiddler, pianist, singer and songwriter, will be sharing stories and music through his research into historical figures and tales.  From Sydney, Cape Breton, he has been nominated for a Nova Scotia Music Award in 2024, we are excited to have him join us.

Colin MacLeod, a fiddler from Scotland, has a classical background, as well as Celtic Music enthusiasm.  Playing live music for Michelle's online classes, he will be sharing some of his favourite tunes related to tea, and bring some stories from Scotland.

We will have your toes tapping and your hearts singing with this special performance.  It is a great opportunity to learn more about Cape Breton traditions through the lens of the tea cup.  Later in the afternoon there is a milling frollic just down the road in Skye Glen, to add to your days experiences with Celtic Colours.
