March carries a quiet but powerful invitation. As the seasons begin to shift, we are reminded that renewal is not something we wait for—it is something we participate in. At the Greenwell Center, this time of year aligns beautifully with our ongoing commitment to whole-body wellness, education, and conscious living through bioenergetic practices.

Central to this work is the Canadian Association of BioEnergetic Wellness (CanBeWell)—an organization that has been advancing awareness, education, and research in the field of bioenergetic wellness for decades. As Leadership Team President, I have had the honour of helping guide CanBeWell’s growth and evolution, supporting initiatives that bridge science, research, lived experience, and accessible tools for everyday wellbeing.

Leading the Advancement of BioEnergetic Wellness

BioEnergetic Wellness recognizes that health is not limited to symptoms or systems—it is an ongoing relationship between energy, body, mind, environment, and community. Through CanBeWell, we continue to spearhead conversations and educational pathways that:

Advance scientific and research-informed perspectives on energy-based wellness

Create accessible learning opportunities for practitioners and the public

Support mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing in daily life

Build global collaborations rooted in integrity, curiosity, and care

This leadership work is not about adding complexity—it is about empowerment. Empowering people with tools they can use in real time, in real life, to support resilience, clarity, and vitality.

From Education to Embodiment

At the Greenwell Center, education meets experience. The tools shared through CanBeWell are brought to life through programs, retreats, and trainings that allow participants to feel the difference bioenergetic practices can make.

One such offering is Touch for Health, a foundational modality that teaches simple yet powerful techniques to support balance, reduce stress, and enhance awareness of the body’s energetic communication. Touch for Health is often described as a gateway—opening the door to understanding how movement, intention, and gentle correction can restore harmony and support self-care in everyday living.

These practices are especially relevant in today’s fast-paced world, where many people are seeking grounded, evidence-informed approaches that reconnect them with their own internal wisdom. Reach out to book your Level 1 class today! info@greenwellcenter.com

Retreats that Restore and Inspire

March is also a time to look ahead—to experiences that invite deeper immersion, reflection, and renewal.

With the Wine Country Tai Chi Society, Michelle will be offering the Tai Chi Wellness Retreat Mar 6 – 8. An excellent chance to explore the power of Tai Chi, while the weekend provides you with inspiration for wellbeing practices and the time to transform your health in the company of others who enjoy the power of movement to heal. You can find the full schedule here.

Sound Sessions with Ann-Marie Boudreau offer a profound opportunity to explore the therapeutic relationship between sound, vibration, and the nervous system. These sessions support rest, regulation, and reconnection, allowing participants to settle into a state where healing and insight can naturally emerge.

Later in the year, the Artfilled Wellness Retreat on Cape Breton Island offers an expansive eight-day journey into creativity, movement, music, nature, and bioenergetic awareness. Set against the stunning landscape of Cape Breton, this retreat weaves together art, frequency, story, and embodiment—inviting participants to explore wellness as a living, creative process rather than a fixed goal.

All three retreats reflect a core belief shared by CanBeWell and the Greenwell Center: wellness is experiential. It is cultivated through presence, participation, and meaningful connection—with ourselves, with others, and with the natural world.

Building Awareness, Community, and Choice

Through CanBeWell’s ongoing work—newsletters, events, collaborative projects, and educational programming—we continue to expand how people understand and engage with bioenergetic wellness. This includes raising awareness about mental health, workplace wellbeing, creative health practices, and the subtle yet powerful role energy plays in daily functioning.

As Leadership Team President, my role has been to help steward this vision forward—ensuring that education remains accessible, research-informed, and deeply human. Whether someone is new to these ideas or has been practicing for decades, there is always more to learn, explore, and integrate.

An Invitation for March

This month, I invite you to:

Visit CanBeWell.org to explore resources, events, and educational pathways

Learn more about the programs offered through the Greenwell Center

Consider how bioenergetic tools like Touch for Health, sound work, movement, and creative practice might support your everyday wellbeing

Join us in shaping a future where wellness education is empowering, inclusive, and deeply connected to lived experience

March reminds us that growth happens quietly, steadily, and with intention. Through the shared work of CanBeWell and the Greenwell Center, we continue to cultivate spaces where people can learn,

The post March at the Greenwell Center: Advancing BioEnergetic Wellness for Everyday Living first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.

January Movement For Mental Clarity
January Reset: Morning Movement for Mental Clarity

January invites us to begin again. After the intensity of the holidays and the deep quiet of winter, many people notice that their mental health feels tender, foggy, or overstimulated. This is why January is a powerful time to recommit to gentle, consistent self‑care practices that support clarity, emotional balance, and nervous system health.

As we also honour Mental Health Month, this is an ideal moment to return to practices that work with the body rather than against it. Tai Chi offers a grounded, accessible pathway to mental clarity through slow movement, breath awareness, and intentional focus.

The post Why Morning Movement Matters for Mental Health first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.

The way we begin our day sets the tone for our thoughts, emotions, and energy. Morning movement helps:

Regulate the nervous system

Reduce anxiety and mental rumination

Improve focus and emotional resilience

Create a sense of agency and stability

Unlike high‑intensity exercise, Tai Chi meets the body where it is—especially important during winter months when energy may feel lower and emotions more inward.

Practiced consistently, Tai Chi becomes a moving meditation, supporting mental health through rhythm, repetition, and presence.

Three Simple Tai Chi Practices for Morning Clarity

These three practices can be done in as little as 10–15 minutes and are suitable for all ages and abilities. They can be practiced standing or seated, making them ideal for home, workplace, or community settings.

1. Commencement: Arriving Fully in the Day

Commencement is the opening movement of many Tai Chi forms and serves as a powerful ritual of arrival.

This practice helps:

Set intention for the day

Ground scattered thoughts

Connect breath with movement

Begin standing or seated with feet grounded. As you inhale, gently raise the arms; as you exhale, allow them to float down. Let the breath lead the movement. Imagine placing your attention gently into the present moment—no urgency, no striving.

Commencement reminds us that mental clarity begins with slowing down.

Video from our YouTube Channel

2. Seated Don Yu: Nourishing the Nervous System

Don Yu is a foundational Tai Chi movement that supports spinal fluidity and energetic circulation. Practiced seated, it becomes an accessible and deeply calming practice.

This movement:

Encourages gentle spinal wave motion

Supports vagal tone and nervous system regulation

Releases tension held in the back and shoulders

As you inhale, allow the spine to lengthen; as you exhale, soften and round slightly. Move slowly and with awareness. This rhythmic motion signals safety to the body, helping quiet anxious thoughts and emotional overload.

Seated Don Yu is especially supportive for those managing stress, fatigue, or chronic pain.

Video from our YouTube Channel

3. Spine Rotation: Releasing Mental and Emotional Tension

The spine holds both physical and emotional tension. Gentle rotational movements help restore mobility while encouraging mental flexibility.

Spine rotation supports:

Improved circulation to the brain

Release of stored stress

Greater ease in decision‑making and focus

With soft, flowing movements, allow the torso to rotate side to side, led by breath rather than force. Imagine tension unwinding with each rotation.

This practice helps us let go—physically and mentally—creating space for clarity and insight.

Video from our YouTube Channel

Building a Sustainable January Routine

Consistency matters more than duration. Even a few minutes each morning can create noticeable shifts in mood, focus, and emotional resilience.

Pairing Tai Chi with a warm beverage, a moment of stillness, or intentional breathing can turn morning movement into a mental health ritual rather than another task on the to‑do list.

Join a Supportive Tai Chi Community

Practicing in community strengthens accountability and connection—two key pillars of mental health.

You’re invited to join:

Tai Chi Cape Breton, offering classes throughout the week for beginners and experienced practitioners

A new Tai Chi class in Baddeck, expanding access to gentle movement and mental wellness, see poster below.

Wine Country Tai Chi Society in West Kelowna and Peachland, BC, supporting health, balance, and longevity through mindful movement

These programs welcome all bodies, all ages, and all levels of experience.

Moving Forward with Intention

January is not about pushing forward—it’s about aligning gently. Tai Chi reminds us that mental clarity emerges through patience, presence, and connection.

As we honour Mental Health Month, may these simple practices support steadiness, ease, and renewed clarity—one mindful movement at a time.

Your body knows the way. Let it lead.

In a world that moves so quickly, it’s easy to feel like we must constantly be doing, producing, and achieving. Deadlines, expectations, and the pressure to “make things happen” can leave us anxious and disconnected from the natural flow of life. Yet, when we pause and look to nature, we are reminded that everything unfolds in its own perfect timing.

The seed does not rush to become a flower. The ocean tide never misses its rhythm. The sunrise arrives at its destined hour, not a moment too soon or too late. This same wisdom exists within us — if only we allow ourselves to trust it.

As part of the Magnifying Peace Project, Marian Egan’s latest video, “Everything in Perfect Timing,” explores this theme with tenderness and reflection. Through her creative expression, Marian invites us to see peace not as a state we must strive to achieve, but as something that naturally arises when we release control and align with the flow of life.

The Illusion of Control

When we try to force outcomes or rush a process, we often create resistance. Think of planting a garden — if we plant too early or too late, or if we overwater or pull at the seedlings to make them grow faster, we risk damaging the very thing we wish to nurture.

The same is true for projects, relationships, and personal growth. When we push beyond what is ready or ignore the timing of others involved, we can lose the delicate harmony that supports success. It’s not that effort isn’t important — it’s that timing and alignment matter just as much as action.

Very often, when something seems “delayed,” it’s not a setback — it’s a realignment. There may be unseen forces at play, bringing together details, people, and resources we don’t yet know we need. The pause between intention and manifestation is not empty space; it’s the creative field where things come together.

The Power of Intention and Trust

Every journey begins with a seed — an idea, a dream, a desire for change. But that seed needs space and time to grow. When we begin a project with intention rather than urgency, we open ourselves to the magic of synchronicity. The right people appear, unexpected resources surface, and inspiration flows in ways we could never have planned.

This is the heart of trust — believing that life supports us, even when the path is unclear. It is in this trust that peace begins to form. Instead of grasping for control, we can rest in curiosity, wonder, and discovery. Each moment becomes a teacher, showing us what is needed next.

When we work, create, or simply live from a place of openness rather than expectation, we align with life’s natural intelligence. We begin to see delays not as disappointments but as opportunities for deeper preparation. We notice how one door closing can gently guide us toward a path better suited to who we’re becoming.

The Lesson of the Late Seed

Have you ever planted a seed late in the season and watched it still sprout and bloom? Nature reminds us that potential exists no matter the timing — it only needs nurturing. Even if our plans take longer than expected or our progress feels slow, the seed of intention remains alive within us.

When we bring patience and care to our process, we magnify the power of peace. The mind relaxes, the body softens, and the heart opens. This inner alignment radiates outward, influencing how we speak, how we act, and how we connect with others. In this way, personal peace becomes collective peace.

Cultivating Peace Through Perfect Timing

Marian’s Magnifying Peace Project video on “Everything in Perfect Timing” is an invitation to slow down and listen. It asks us to breathe, to trust, and to reconnect with the gentle rhythm of creation. Peace, like a flower, cannot be forced — it unfolds naturally when given space, patience, and care.

As you watch the video, let yourself reflect on where in your life you may be pushing or expecting things to happen too quickly. Ask yourself: What if this pause is part of the plan? What if this waiting time is sacred?

At the Greenwell Center for Holistic Health, we hold these moments of reflection as essential to wellness. Whether through Tai Chi, mindful movement, or creative exploration, every practice we offer helps cultivate patience, trust, and inner peace — qualities that allow life to unfold in its own perfect timing.

So, take a deep breath. Trust the process. The seeds you’ve planted — even the ones sown late — hold infinite potential.

Watch Marian Egan’s new video: “Everything in Perfect Timing” as part of the Magnifying Peace Project on YouTube.
Let it remind you that peace is not something you chase — it’s something that arrives, right on time.

In Tai Chi we also cultivate this sense of patience and timing. Rather than thinking about an exercise program to expend energy, Tai Chi is a cultivating program that provides us with valuable life lessons, like the sunflower blooming late in the season. How might you be providing the space for you to bloom in wellness?

Are you ready to develop your Tai Chi skills in a concentrated, and inspiring way? Consider how three days of workshops can take you to the next level.

Hello Tai Chi’ers!

We are so happy to announce the full schedule for our upcoming workshop series with Doug and Yvonne Waines, happening October 1, 2, and 3.

A workshop is such a valuable opportunity to observe, ask questions, and deepen your Tai Chi practice by learning from the experiences and expertise of others. Doug and Yvonne, Lead Instructors with the Wine Country Tai Chi Society in West Kelowna, BC, have been teaching for more than 30 years. Each brings a unique perspective and skill set to help students grow.

About Yvonne
Yvonne has developed a comprehensive seated form series, drawing on expertise in supporting those with Diabetes, Stroke, Parkinson’s, Arthritis, and Dementia. She has even taught Tai Chi to the blind. Her gentle and accessible approach uses simple, effective exercises to open the body, which she then connects back to the Tai Chi and Sabre sets.

About Doug
Doug has devoted his practice to carefully studying the movements of the masters before him. He has trained closely with instructors like Boon Loh, Kevin Weir, and Doug Nettleton—students of Master Moy Lin Shin, the founder of the form we follow. With precision and insight, Doug explores how Tai Chi transforms structure, mood, and organ function.

Together, they will guide us through explorations of Tai Chi, Sabre, and Lok Hup, with a blend of seated and standing forms.
