What If Overwhelm Isn’t the Problem—But the Invitation?

There are seasons in life when the to-do list seems endless.

Tasks pile up. Decisions feel heavy. Motivation disappears. We label ourselves as procrastinators, tell ourselves we need to “push through,” and often judge our inability to simply get things done.

But what if overwhelm isn’t failure?

What if procrastination isn’t laziness?

What if both are actually signals—messages from the body, mind, and energetic systems inviting us to pause, listen, and shift perspective?

In our latest Facing Dementia podcast conversation, Dr. Michelle Greenwell and intuitive transformation mentor Laurin Wittig explored a refreshing and compassionate reframe around overwhelm, stress, and procrastination—one that opens the door to self-awareness, self-kindness, and greater alignment.

Audio Version

Overwhelm as a Signal, Not a Stop Sign

Modern life teaches us to interpret overwhelm as weakness.

If we feel stressed, anxious, frozen, or unable to act, the common response is to work harder, think harder, organize better, or discipline ourselves into productivity.

But from a BioEnergetic Wellness perspective, overwhelm is not simply a mental problem.

It is a whole-system response.

When stress builds:

the nervous system becomes dysregulated

emotional resilience decreases

the body’s energetic communication becomes disrupted

the mind starts looping in repetitive thought patterns

And once we are inside that stress loop, clear thinking becomes difficult.

This is where procrastination often begins—not because we lack discipline, but because the system no longer feels safe, resourced, or aligned enough to move forward.

This changes the question entirely.

Instead of asking:

“What’s wrong with me?”

We begin asking:

“What is my system trying to tell me?”

That subtle shift creates space for healing.

Reframing Stress as an Invitation

One of the most powerful moments in the conversation was the idea that stress signals are not interruptions—they are invitations.

An invitation to:

change perspective

reassess priorities

reconnect with intention

restore energetic flow

listen more deeply to our intuitive wisdom

Stress can become a messenger rather than an enemy.

This is especially meaningful for caregivers, those navigating health challenges, and anyone carrying emotional or cognitive load.

When we learn to pause and listen rather than resist, new possibilities emerge.

The Joy Calendar: Prioritizing What Nourishes You

One beautiful tool that emerged from this conversation was the creation of what we called the Joy Calendar.

Think about how most calendars are built.

Appointments.

Tasks.

Deadlines.

Responsibilities.

Obligations.

The things we have to do.

But how often do we intentionally schedule what nourishes us?

What if we built our calendar differently?

Instead of beginning with obligations, we begin with joy.

Schedule first:

your walk in nature

your tea ritual

time with loved ones

creative exploration

music

movement

meditation

quiet reflection

moments that help you feel like yourself again

Then build your responsibilities around those anchors.

This isn’t avoidance.

This is strategic nervous system support.

When joy becomes a priority, resilience grows.

And when resilience grows, capacity increases.

The Joy Calendar helps us remember that wellness is not something we squeeze in after everything else.

Wellness is what allows everything else to happen.

Are You Procrastinating… or Are You Waiting for Alignment?

This was another meaningful reframe.

What if procrastination is not procrastination?

What if some delays are actually intuitive intelligence?

There are moments when pushing through creates resistance, frustration, and exhaustion.

And there are moments when timing suddenly opens, energy shifts, clarity arrives, and the exact same task flows with surprising ease.

Through an energetic lens, timing matters.

Some actions are aligned.

Others require force.

This does not mean avoiding responsibility.

It means learning discernment.

Questions to consider:

Am I resisting because I’m afraid?

Am I depleted and needing restoration?

Is this actually the right time?

Am I missing information?

Does this task align with my bigger goal?

When we stop labeling ourselves negatively, we create space for curiosity.

Instead of:

“I’m terrible at getting things done.”

Try:

“My timing may need adjustment.”

Or:

“What would make this feel more aligned?”

That single shift changes internal dialogue from criticism to compassion.

And compassion creates movement.

Tea as a Ritual for Clarity and Forward Motion

Tea became an especially meaningful part of this episode.

At the Greenwell Center, tea is never just a beverage.

It is ritual.

Pause.

Presence.

Plant wisdom.

Energetic support.

For this episode, the featured tea was Mintal ClariTEA – from the Harmony Blend Series, and it could not have been more perfectly matched to the conversation.

This blend includes:

Peppermint

Peppermint is the herb of forward movement.

When we feel mentally stuck, emotionally stagnant, or trapped in repetitive thought patterns, peppermint helps shift energy.

It refreshes the mind, stimulates focus, and energetically encourages momentum.

Peppermint reminds us:

Movement is possible.

Calendula

Calendula offers clarity, healing, and gentle illumination.

It supports bringing awareness to what feels tangled or unclear and helps us soften our response to overwhelm.

Orange Flowers

Orange blossoms uplift the emotional body.

They encourage optimism, emotional lightness, and calm reassurance when stress feels heavy.

Together, this tea becomes a beautiful energetic metaphor: clarity + calm + movement.

Exactly what overwhelm asks us to restore.

A tea ritual can become a daily energetic reset:

Hold your cup.

Take a breath.

Set an intention.

Ask:

“What is one thing that will keep my energy flowing today?”

Not ten things.

Not the whole list.

Just one.

And begin there.

For Caregivers and Those Facing Cognitive Stress

The Facing Dementia podcast continues to offer more than information.

It offers perspective.

Compassion.

Practical tools.

And permission to approach life differently.

For caregivers especially, overwhelm can become normalized.

But normalized stress is still stress.

This episode reminds us:

You deserve regulation.

You deserve joy.

You deserve support.

And your signals matter.

Final Reflection

Overwhelm is not weakness.

Procrastination is not a character flaw.

Stress is not always the enemy.

Sometimes, these experiences are invitations.

Invitations to pause.

To breathe.

To restore balance.

To listen.

To reconnect with joy.

And perhaps most importantly, to trust that timing, when aligned with your goals and inner wisdom, can create far more ease than force ever could.

Listen to the Episode

What if healing isn’t about fixing what is broken—but remembering what has always been whole?

This season on Be Well with Dr. Michelle Greenwell, we invite listeners into a powerful three-part journey through sound, frequency, and energetic awareness with two extraordinary guests: Ann Smets and Ann-Marie Boudreau.

Together, we explore healing not as a destination, but as a living practice—one that begins within the body, expands into the present moment, and ultimately reconnects us to purpose, nature, and the greater field of life itself.

This special trilogy, Resonance Rising, is an invitation to listen more deeply.

To your body.
To your breath.
To your voice.
To the frequencies that shape your health, your emotions, and your experience of being alive.

Across three rich and immersive episodes, we move through the living gateways of healing: the self, the present, and the infinite.

This is not wellness as performance.
This is wellness as participation.
This is the path of remembering wholeness.

Episode One: You Are an Instrument

The trilogy begins with a foundational truth: your body is not separate from sound.

It is sound.

Your body is not simply a collection of muscles, tissues, and systems. It is a living resonance chamber—responding constantly to thought, emotion, rhythm, environment, and intention.

In this first episode, we explore the body as an instrument of healing.

Together, we examine the four foundational principles of sound healing:

Resonance

Frequency

Entrainment

Intention

These are not abstract ideas. They are living forces that shape how we regulate the nervous system, release stored emotional patterns, and restore harmony in the body.

Listeners are introduced to practical tools for self-healing, including:

mindful vocalization

chanting and toning

tuning forks

singing bowls

vocal warm-ups

bija mantras and seed sounds

This episode offers a deeply embodied entry point into healing through vibration, with a special focus on the heart as both biological rhythm keeper and energetic compass.

Before we can heal the world, we must first tune ourselves.

Episode Two: Finding Peace in the Present

Healing does not happen in the past.

Healing happens now.

The second episode brings us into the power of coherence—the physiological and energetic state that emerges when breath, body, heart, and awareness come into alignment.

Peace is often misunderstood as passive.

But peace is active.

It is a measurable, embodied state in which the nervous system regulates, intuition sharpens, emotional tension softens, and the body begins to repair.

In this deeply moving conversation, we explore how unresolved grief, emotional suppression, and unprocessed life experiences can manifest as dis-ease in the body.

Together, Ann Smets and Ann-Marie Boudreau guide listeners through the transformational role of presence in healing, including:

grief as a pathway of release

sound as a tool for emotional processing

vocal release through keening and wailing

the energetic and spiritual dimensions of death and transition

how the body metabolizes grief and returns to balance

This episode offers a compassionate and profound invitation to meet ourselves in the present moment—not to bypass pain, but to allow it to move.

Because healing begins when we stop resisting what needs to be felt.

Episode Three: Living Forward

When the body is no longer trapped in the past, and the present feels safe enough to inhabit, something extraordinary begins to emerge:

Purpose.

Not pressure.
Not performance.
Not productivity.

Purpose.

In the final episode of the trilogy, we explore what it means to live forward in alignment with our true nature.

Purpose is not something we chase.
It is something we remember.

This conversation expands beyond the body into the larger field of existence—connecting the microcosm of the human system to the macrocosm of the universe.

Listeners are invited into a profound exploration of:

the body as a mirror of the cosmos

planetary and universal frequencies

sound as the language of creation

the role of trust in awakening inner power

healing as contribution to the collective field

Through meditation, sacred sound, tuning forks, Tibetan bowls, crystal bowls, and the universal tone of OM, this episode becomes an energetic experience in itself—guiding listeners into spaciousness, trust, and expanded awareness.

This is where healing becomes service.

This is where resonance becomes contribution.

This is where remembering becomes embodiment.

Why This Trilogy Matters

We are living in a time when many people are searching for healing beyond symptom management.

They are seeking deeper regulation.
Greater clarity.
A more grounded spirituality.
A way to live in coherence with themselves and the world around them.

Resonance Rising offers that doorway.

This trilogy bridges science and spirituality, body and energy, nervous system and soul.

It reminds us that healing is not about becoming someone new.

It is about becoming coherent enough to remember who we already are.

Through the wisdom of sound, frequency, presence, and intention, these conversations offer listeners practical tools, embodied insight, and a deeper understanding of how healing unfolds from the inside out.

This is the work of restoring resonance.

This is the work of remembering wholeness.

And this is only the beginning.

Join Us for Resonance Rising

If you have been craving a more meaningful relationship with your body, your voice, your healing, and your purpose, this trilogy was created for you.

Listen in.
Breathe deeply.
Tune inward.
And remember:

When we become the embodied field, we add to the healing resonance of the world.

There is something quietly powerful about a conversation that meets you exactly where you are.

In a world filled with fast answers, surface-level wellness advice, and endless information, Be Well with Dr Michelle Greenwell offers something different. It offers a place to pause. A place to listen. A place to reconnect with the deeper wisdom of the body and the many ways healing can unfold when we create the right conditions to support it.

That is the hidden power of the Be Well with Dr Michelle Greenwell podcast.

It is more than a podcast.
It is a guided wellness experience.

Audio Version Here

Each episode is designed to be more than a conversation. It is an invitation into reflection, regulation, and restoration. Through intentional tea rituals, thoughtful discussion, practical tools, and meaningful resources, listeners are invited to do more than simply consume information. They are invited to engage with it, experience it, and apply it in ways that support meaningful change.

At its heart, Be Well with Dr Michelle Greenwell helps listeners build something essential in today’s world: a stronger self-care toolbox.

This is one of the most meaningful values of the podcast. Each episode offers not only insight, but practical ways to understand the body, support the nervous system, and create sustainable habits for wellbeing. Whether the conversation is focused on trauma, resilience, movement, emotional health, music, breath, stress release, or embodied healing, the intention is always the same — to help listeners leave with something they can use.

This is not wellness as performance.
It is wellness as practice.

It is an opportunity to learn how the body responds to stress, how movement changes mood and physiology, how breath supports regulation, how music can influence the nervous system, and how intentional self-care can become one of the most important foundations for long-term wellbeing.

That is what makes the podcast so valuable. It is not simply inspirational. It is practical, thoughtful, and designed for integration.

Listeners are not just invited to hear new ideas.
They are invited to try them.

This is where the real opportunity lies.

Every episode opens a doorway into deeper exploration — whether that means experimenting with a simple stress-releasing tool, bringing more intentional movement into the day, exploring the therapeutic benefits of tea, understanding the role of music in healing, or beginning to see the body through a more holistic and integrated lens.

For those ready to go further, the podcast is also a gateway into the broader work available through the Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.

The Greenwell Center was created to support whole-person wellbeing through education, movement, tea, therapeutic arts, and practical wellness experiences that help people reconnect with the body’s remarkable capacity to heal.

The podcast is one entry point.
The deeper journey continues through the many resources, programs, and experiences designed to help listeners move from inspiration into action.

Through the Greenwell Center, listeners can continue exploring:

movement and wellness programs that support mobility, strength, nervous system regulation, and embodied wellbeing

What makes this work unique is that it is not simply about learning more.

It is about learning in ways that help you live differently.

It is about understanding the connection between the body, emotions, movement, breath, music, and environment — and then using that understanding to make practical, supportive changes in daily life.

This is where healing becomes accessible.

Not in grand gestures.
But in meaningful daily practices.
In better questions.
In deeper awareness.
In small shifts that create sustainable change.

That is the hidden power of Be Well with Dr Michelle Greenwell.

It is not simply a podcast to listen to.

It is a place to begin.

A place to learn.
A place to explore.
A place to gather tools.
A place to build resilience.
A place to reconnect with what wellbeing can truly look like.

And for those ready to go deeper, the Greenwell Center offers the next step.

Whether you begin with a podcast episode, a tea ritual, a movement class, a stress-releasing tool, an online program, or a community event, each offering is designed to help you strengthen your self-care toolbox and create a more intentional relationship with your own wellbeing.

The invitation is simple.

Listen deeply.
Learn intentionally.
Explore what resonates.
And begin building the practices that help you feel well, move well, and live well.

Your next step in wellbeing may begin with a single episode.

And from there, the possibilities continue.

I am deeply honoured to share that I have been named a Top 5 finalist for the Legacy Builder Award with the Authority Awards.

To be recognized alongside such an inspiring international group of leaders is both humbling and meaningful. This acknowledgement is more than a personal milestone — it is a reflection of the many conversations, collaborations, and shared visions that continue to shape the work I am so passionate to bring forward.

Since returning to school in 2014 to deepen my studies in health and wellness, this journey has been one of tremendous growth, discovery, and purpose. What began as a commitment to better understand the body’s remarkable capacity to heal has evolved into a rich and rewarding path of research, program development, community engagement, and international collaboration.

Over the past decade, I have had the privilege of building systems, programs, and conversations that support wellbeing through education, embodied awareness, and practical self-care. At the heart of this work is a simple but powerful intention: to help people better understand their bodies, reconnect with their own healing capacity, and build sustainable tools for wellbeing in everyday life.

That intention continues to guide my work through CanBeWell, where our focus remains on creating accessible, meaningful wellness education and experiences that help individuals and communities build stronger self-care toolboxes. Through CanBeWell, we continue to explore how movement, music, mindfulness, and embodied awareness can support resilience, regulation, and long-term wellbeing.

This same philosophy also shapes the evolution of Marathon Jam — a growing initiative rooted in healing through music, movement, and therapeutic connection. What began as a creative gathering has continued to evolve into a deeper exploration of how music and movement can support healing, nervous system regulation, resilience, and restoration. Marathon Jam is helping to create new conversations around trauma-informed care, therapeutic arts, and the power of embodied community healing.

These projects, along with my ongoing work in education and facilitation, are all connected by one core belief: when we create spaces for meaningful conversation, intentional collaboration, and embodied experience, we help people build the tools they need to care for themselves and one another more effectively.

This has also been beautifully reflected through Be Well with Dr Michelle Greenwell, now entering Season 6. The podcast has become a meaningful space for rich conversations, practical insight, and shared learning. Each episode is designed to offer listeners thoughtful tools, new perspectives, and accessible strategies to strengthen their self-care toolbox and support wellbeing in daily life. It has been a joy to explore these conversations with guests from around the world, each bringing their own wisdom, experience, and perspective on healing and resilience.

This past weekend, we were also delighted to celebrate World Tai Chi and Qigong Day — a global event dedicated to raising awareness about the benefits of Tai Chi and Qigong for health and wellbeing. It was a meaningful opportunity to gather in community, share movement, and highlight the many ways these practices support balance, resilience, mobility, and nervous system regulation.

This year, that work feels especially significant as we continue to focus on creating a Blue Zone-inspired culture of wellbeing in our community through Tai Chi. By bringing greater awareness to gentle movement, social connection, nervous system health, and sustainable wellbeing practices, we are helping to foster the kind of everyday habits that support longevity, vitality, and community wellness for generations to come.

To be recognized as a finalist for the Legacy Leader Award is a true honour, and one that I receive with deep gratitude.

Thank you to Michelle Abraham and everyone involved with the Authority Awards for this recognition and for your confidence in the work I am so privileged to do.

This acknowledgement is not simply a celebration of what has been built — it is an invitation to continue.

To continue creating conversations.
To continue building collaborations.
To continue exploring the body’s capacity to heal.
To continue offering tools that help others build stronger, wiser, and more compassionate self-care practices.

For that opportunity, I am truly grateful.

The post Honoured to Be Named a Finalist for the Legacy Builder Award first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.

Season 5 Finale – Be Well with Dr. Michelle Greenwell podcast

As we close out Season 5 of Be Well with Dr. Michelle Greenwell, we arrive at a powerful and deeply personal theme—the voice. Not just as a tool for communication, but as a pathway to healing, expression, and transformation.

In this final episode, we are honoured to welcome Karen Novy, a vocal empowerment coach, NLP practitioner, author, and workshop facilitator whose work centers on helping individuals reclaim their voice and step fully into their authentic selves.

Karen’s journey as a breast cancer survivor has shaped her understanding of healing in profound ways. Through her work, she reminds us that our voice is not something external to refine—it is something internal to rediscover. It carries our truth, our story, and our capacity to transform.

The Voice as Medicine

So many of us move through life with a quieted voice—held back by past experiences, self-doubt, or the fear of being seen and heard. Yet, when we begin to explore our voice—whether through sound, tone, or expression—something shifts.

The body softens.
The breath deepens.
The mind quiets.

And in that space, we begin to reconnect with who we truly are.

Karen speaks to the first moment someone discovers their authentic tone—a moment often filled with lightness, surprise, and even joy. It is as though something long hidden has finally been given permission to emerge.

Your voice is not just sound.
Your voice is your medicine.

A Tea to Awaken Memory and Expression

In this episode, we paired our conversation with Sweet Memories, a blend inspired by family, legacy, and love from Creignish, Nova Scotia and Peggy Burke at the Studio Store.

This special Cape Breton Tea Company blend, with the gentle sweetness of strawberry and the grounding richness of black tea, invites reflection and connection.

Strawberry, with its heart-centered energy, encourages compassion, emotional openness, and the sweetness of cherished memories.

Black tea offers grounding and strength, supporting clarity, courage, and the confidence to express one’s truth.

Together, they create a sensory experience that mirrors the journey of finding your voice—soft yet strong, reflective yet empowering.

An Invitation to Experience It for Yourself

This conversation doesn’t end with the episode—it continues in community.

We invite you to join us for the 2nd Annual Healing Through Music and Movement Event hosted by Marathon Jam:

April 18, 2026
FREE Event
Register here: https://www.marathonjam.org/htm

This immersive day is designed to support veterans, first responders, caregivers, professionals, and community members in exploring tools to release trauma and build resiliency.

Participants will have the opportunity to work with an incredible team of facilitators:

Karen Novy – Vocal exploration and authentic expression

Lynn Koonce – Music, Vocal and Creative healing practices

Matthew Seymour – Music and experiential engagement

Colin MacLeod – Music and connection

Michelle Greenwell – Movement, energy, and integrative wellness

Through music, movement, voice, and creative expression, you will be guided into a space of belonging—where healing can begin, and transformation can unfold. It is a true pleasure for Michelle to be working with such incredible NeuroArts specialists in their field.

The Power of Belonging

One of the most profound aspects of this work is the sense of community that emerges.

When we give ourselves permission to be heard, we also begin to hear others more deeply.
When we express, we connect.
When we connect, we heal.

Events like this remind us that we are not alone in our experiences—and that healing is not something we have to navigate in isolation.

As we close Season 5, we reflect on the many pathways to wellness we have explored—through movement, energy, nature, and now, the voice.

And as we step into Season 6, we carry forward a powerful reminder:

Your voice is a magical part of who you are.
To claim it, to explore it, and to enjoy its resonance… is a beautiful life journey.

Let this be your invitation—
To listen inward…
To express outward…
And to trust that your voice matters.

Have you given yourself the space to pause, regroup, relax, and let go of your diagnosis or situation? The Illness Brain is something that can hold you in a pattern that continues to feed the situation. Join Laurin Wittig and Michelle Greenwell as they explore the power of vacation in this "Facing Dementia" podcast episode.

In Episode 6 of Facing Dementia, Dr. Michelle Greenwell and Laurin Wittig explore a powerful and often overlooked aspect of healing: the need to step away from the constant mental focus on illness.

When we receive a diagnosis—or even anticipate one—the mind shifts. It becomes vigilant, analytical, and hyper-focused on doing everything “right.” We research, plan, track symptoms, and commit to protocols with diligence and care. While these actions come from a place of hope and responsibility, they can also create an unintended consequence: the rise of what we call the “Illness Brain.”

What Is the Illness Brain?

The Illness Brain is a pattern of thinking shaped by stress, fear, and the desire to regain control. It is characterized by:

Constant mental scanning for symptoms

Overanalyzing choices and outcomes

Feeling responsible for getting everything “perfect”

Difficulty relaxing or being present

A subtle (or not so subtle) identification with the diagnosis

From a scientific perspective, this makes sense. Chronic stress activates the brain’s threat detection systems—particularly the amygdala—and increases cortisol levels. Over time, this state reduces cognitive flexibility, narrows perspective, and keeps the nervous system in a loop of vigilance.

Ironically, the very effort to heal can keep the body in a state of stress, which is not conducive to healing at all.

Audio Version

When Doing Everything Right Becomes Too Much

One of the key insights from this episode is that in trying to do everything right, we can lose sight of something essential: healing requires calm.

When the mind is busy, the body cannot fully rest.
When the nervous system is activated, the body cannot fully repair.

Healing is not only about what we do—it is about the state we are in while doing it.

Laurin’s recent vacation offered a powerful contrast. Removed from daily routines, expectations, and constant mental processing, something shifted. The Illness Brain softened. The need to monitor and manage faded. In its place came presence, connection, and ease.

The Science of Stepping Away

Research on vacations and restorative breaks supports this experience. Time away from daily stressors has been shown to:

Lower cortisol levels

Improve heart rate variability (a marker of resilience)

Enhance mood and emotional regulation

Improve sleep quality

Increase cognitive flexibility and creativity

Nature immersion adds another layer of benefit. Being in natural environments reduces rumination—the repetitive thought patterns often associated with stress and anxiety—and supports parasympathetic (rest-and-repair) activation.

In simple terms:
When we step away, the brain recalibrates.

The Catch-22 of Healing

Another important theme explored in this episode is the idea that the same mindset that contributed to imbalance can also influence how we try to heal.

If patterns of overthinking, stress, perfectionism, or disconnection played a role in the development of illness, those same patterns may show up in the healing journey.

This creates a kind of catch-22:

We want to make the “right” choices

But the mind making those choices is still operating from old patterns

Sometimes this shows up as resistance. We may feel that something “doesn’t resonate” or “isn’t right,” and choose not to engage. But what if that resistance is not wisdom—but familiarity?

The Illness Brain often prefers the known, even if the known contributed to imbalance.

This is where healing asks something different of us.

Creating Space for Change

Rather than forcing ourselves into new practices or overwhelming change, the invitation is to begin with something simpler:

Create space.

Space in the mind.
Space in the body.
Space in the nervous system.

When we calm the internal environment, we become more open. New ideas feel less threatening. Experiences that once felt difficult or unfamiliar become approachable.

This is where true transformation begins—not through force, but through readiness.

Returning to Yourself

At its core, this episode is not just about taking a vacation. It is about remembering who you are beyond the diagnosis.

You are not only a patient, a caregiver, or a person navigating uncertainty.
You are still someone who can laugh, connect, explore, and feel joy.

The Illness Brain narrows identity.
Presence expands it.

A Gentle Practice to Take Forward

As you return to your daily life, consider this:

Pause for a moment.
Take a breath.
Recall a time when you felt calm, connected, and fully yourself.

Let that feeling settle into your body.

This is not escape.
This is access.

Access to a state where healing becomes possible—not through effort alone, but through ease, awareness, and being.

You are not your diagnosis.
You are a whole person, capable of healing, growth, and living fully—one breath, one moment, one choice at a time.

The post Illness Brain on Vacation: Reclaiming Calm, Clarity, and the Capacity to Heal first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.

This weekend, in our upcoming Sound Workshop, Ann-Marie Boudreau and I invite you to explore a profound truth: your body is an instrument, and your spine is its central channel of resonance.

The Spine as a Living Frequency Pathway

Often, we think of the spine as a structural support—a column that holds us upright. But it is so much more.

Each vertebra carries its own energetic signature, its own vibrational quality. Together, they form a dynamic pathway through which information, energy, and sound travel. When the spine is aligned and supported, this pathway becomes clear and receptive. When restricted, compressed, or held in tension, the body’s natural resonance becomes muted.

Just like a musical instrument, the body requires space to create sound.

Posture: The Gateway to Resonance

Posture is not about rigidity or perfection—it is about availability.

When we bring awareness to how we sit, stand, and move, we begin to create subtle openings within the body:

Space between the vertebrae

Freedom within the ribcage

Ease in the diaphragm

Fluidity through the fascia

These openings allow sound to travel more freely—not only externally, but internally.

With supportive posture, sound doesn’t just pass through us… it lands, it vibrates, it awakens.

Breath: Creating Space for Sound

Breath is the bridge between structure and vibration.

When we breathe deeply and consciously, we create expansion:

The lungs fill and lift

The ribs widen

The spine subtly elongates

The internal environment becomes more spacious

This spaciousness is essential for resonance. Without it, sound has nowhere to go.

As we deepen our breath, we invite sound to move into the body more fully—touching tissues, organs, and energetic pathways.

Sound as an Internal Healing Force

Sound is not just something we hear—it is something we feel.

Every tone, every frequency interacts with the body’s internal landscape. When posture and breath are aligned, sound can:

Stimulate circulation and fluid movement

Support nervous system regulation

Activate cellular communication

Encourage emotional release

Restore a sense of harmony and coherence

In this way, sound becomes a partner in healing—working from the inside out.

Raising Frequency, Receiving Healing

In our workshop, we will explore both sides of the vibrational equation:

How to raise your internal frequency through posture, breath, and awareness

How to receive healing frequencies through sound, allowing them to resonate deeply within the body

This is not about forcing change. It is about creating the conditions for the body to remember its natural state of vitality, flow, and love.

An Invitation to Listen Within

When we create space in the spine, breathe with intention, and allow sound to move through us, something extraordinary happens:

We begin to hear ourselves more clearly.

Not just physically—but energetically, emotionally, and intuitively.

The body becomes a place of listening.
A place of connection.
A place of resonance.

And from that resonance, healing unfolds.

At the Greenwell Center for Holistic Health, we believe that healing is not only possible—it is experiential, creative, and deeply rooted in connection. This belief comes to life once again as Marathon Jam hosts the 2nd Annual Healing Through Music and Movement Event, a powerful, interactive day designed to support veterans, first responders, healthcare professionals, caregivers, and anyone seeking meaningful tools for self-care and resilience.

Following a remarkable inaugural year, hosted by Stonefield Cellars Winery in Stokesdale, NC, this program was honoured with a Legacy Leader Award in 2025 through CanBeWell.org, recognizing its impact in bridging science, creativity, and community wellness. This year, the experience expands even further—offering participants new ways to explore healing through sound, movement, and artistic expression. Take a look at our video from last year!

Expanding the Experience: What’s New in 2026

This year’s event introduces exciting new elements designed to deepen the healing journey:

Instrument Exploration Program: Participants will engage directly with sound, discovering how rhythm, vibration, and tone can support emotional release and nervous system regulation.

Additional Facilitators: Bringing new perspective and expertise to broaden the learning experience.

NeuroArt Station: A creative space where participants can explore the intersection of art and neuroscience—translating internal experiences into visual expression to support integration and insight.

These additions reflect a growing understanding: healing is multi-sensory, and when we engage the body, mind, and creative spirit together, transformation becomes more accessible.

The Heart of the Program: A Signature Formula for Healing

At the core of this event is a thoughtfully designed experiential framework developed by Dr Michelle Greenwell, CIH BioEW, Colin MacLeod, and Tanya Levy, MSW.

This signature program weaves a formula through the day that inspires letting go, walking forward, and finding balance and flow. Each activity and the overall organization of the day, plus the “right” cup of tea, guides participants through a carefully curated sequence of music, movement, and reflective practices that support:

Awareness of the body’s response to stress and trauma

Gentle unwinding of held tension patterns

Re-patterning through rhythm, breath, and intentional movement

Integration through creative and sensory-based practices

This “formula building” approach empowers participants not only to experience healing in the moment, but to leave with tools they can apply in everyday life.

Continuing the Conversation: Podcast Connections

The impact of this work extends beyond the event itself. Several of last year’s facilitators and themes have been featured on the “Be Well with Dr. Michelle Greenwell” podcast, offering deeper insights into the science and stories behind the practices shared.

These episodes serve as a bridge—allowing listeners to revisit key concepts, explore personal journeys, and integrate learning at their own pace.

As the program grows, new podcast interviews are on the horizon, highlighting the voices and expertise of the additional facilitators joining this year’s event – Karen Novy and Matthew Seymour. These conversations will continue to expand our understanding of trauma recovery, resilience, and the role of creative expression in healing.

A Community of Healing and Possibility

What makes this event truly special is the community it creates. Participants are not just attendees—they are active contributors to a shared space of exploration, support, and transformation.

Whether you are navigating the effects of stress, supporting others in demanding roles, or simply seeking a deeper connection to your own well-being, this day offers an invitation:

To listen.
To move.
To create.
To heal.

At the Greenwell Center, we are honoured to support and celebrate initiatives like this—where innovation meets compassion, and where healing becomes a collective journey.

Our Cape Breton Tea Company tea highlighted The Autograph, Kitchen Party and Fit as a Fiddle. This year we will be highlighting a few signature blends. Stay tuned to learn more in the coming weeks.

Stay tuned for more updates, facilitator highlights, and podcast releases as we prepare for another inspiring event of Healing Through Music and Movement – Saturday, April 18th.

For the second year in a row, the Greenwell Center for Holistic Health is proud to participate in Podcasthon, a global movement where podcasters dedicate episodes to sharing the stories and missions of nonprofit organizations making a difference in the world.

This year, our podcast episode highlights the work of the Canadian Association of BioEnergetic Wellness and shines a special spotlight on CanBeWell.org, an initiative devoted to empowering individuals with practical tools, education, and community support for their wellness journey.

A Journey of Service and Leadership

My involvement with the Canadian Association of BioEnergetic Wellness spans several decades, reflecting a deep commitment to advancing wellness education and helping people discover their own innate healing potential. Since 2020, I have had the privilege of serving as President of the Association, helping guide its vision of making bioenergetic wellness education accessible to both facilitators and the public.

Joining me in this journey is Natascha Polomski, who has served as Treasurer and Bookkeeper since 2020. Her dedication and thoughtful stewardship help ensure that the organization can continue to grow, develop programs, and support the communities we serve.

In our Podcasthon conversation, Natascha and I share the story of the Association’s growth, the volunteers who sustain it, and the many initiatives designed to bring wellness education to people seeking a deeper understanding of their health.

Highlighting CanBeWell.org

This year’s Podcasthon episode highlights CanBeWell.org, a platform created to bring together wellness resources, courses, and community opportunities.

CanBeWell.org is designed as a gateway for people who want to become more engaged in their own wellbeing. Through the site, individuals can explore:

Wellness plans designed to support self-awareness and healthy lifestyle practices

Courses that introduce energy-based approaches to wellbeing

Events and community conversations that encourage learning and connection

Opportunities to support wellness education through donations

Support for this initiative helps expand programs that increase mental health awareness, stress reduction, overall wellbeing, and provide skills-based training in areas such as muscle monitoring and biofeedback, empowering individuals with practical tools to understand their body’s responses and support balanced wellbeing.

Strength Through Collaboration

The Canadian Association of BioEnergetic Wellness does not work alone. Our mission is strengthened through collaborations with organizations dedicated to advancing education, research, and awareness in energy-based wellness practices.

These valued partners include:

Atlantic Therapeutic Touch Network – an organization supporting the practice and education of Therapeutic Touch across the Maritime Provinces of Canada

Therapeutic Touch Network of Canada – advancing Therapeutic Touch nationally through training and professional development, and internationally with TTIA

Muscle Tuners International – supporting the practice and research of muscle monitoring techniques and muscle strength and endurance

Natural BioEnergetics – promoting awareness of bioenergetic principles in health and wellbeing

Brain Gym Canada – offering educational movement practices that support learning and cognitive function

In fact, Natascha also shares a podcast highlighting the work of the Atlantic Therapeutic Touch Network, demonstrating how these organizations are interconnected in their commitment to helping people discover practical ways to support their health.

A Cup of Playtime Tea

Every episode of the podcast includes a tea ritual, and this Podcasthon episode features Playtime Tea from the Cape Breton Tea Company.

With notes of Chocolate, Peppermint, and delicate Apple blossom, this blend invites us to reconnect with curiosity, creativity, and joy.

The spirit of play is an important reminder that wellness does not have to feel heavy or complicated. Sometimes the most powerful shifts occur when we allow ourselves to relax, explore, and approach life with openness.

A warm cup of tea can become a ritual of pause—an invitation to reflect on how we care for ourselves and how we engage with the world around us.

Engaging in Wellness Rather Than Dis-Ease

One of the central ideas explored in our Podcasthon conversation is the difference between engaging with wellness and engaging with dis-ease.

When people become focused only on illness, symptoms, or fear, their journey can feel disempowering. Health becomes something that happens to them rather than something they can actively participate in.

Bioenergetic wellness invites a different perspective.

It encourages individuals to become curious about their bodies, their emotions, and their energy patterns. Through practices such as movement, breath, energy awareness, muscle monitoring, and biofeedback, individuals can begin to understand the subtle ways their bodies communicate.

This shift—from fear to curiosity—opens the door to personal empowerment.

Instead of asking, “What is wrong with me?” we begin asking,
“What is my body telling me, and how can I support balance and harmony?”

This mindset transforms the wellness journey from one of limitation to one of possibility.

Supporting the Mission

The work of the Canadian Association of BioEnergetic Wellness and CanBeWell.org is driven by volunteers, educators, and practitioners who believe that wellness education should be accessible to everyone.

If this mission resonates with you, there are several ways to become involved:

Explore wellness resources, courses, and events through CanBeWell.org

Share the podcast and wellness resources with others

Participate in community conversations and learning opportunities

Consider making a donation to support mental health awareness and wellness education initiatives

Every conversation, every course, and every act of support helps expand access to tools that empower individuals to care for their health with greater awareness and confidence.

Wellness begins with awareness.

Empowerment grows through education and community.

Through Podcasthon, we are reminded that when people come together with a shared purpose—to support wellbeing, understanding, and compassion—small actions can ripple outward to create meaningful change.

And sometimes, that conversation begins with a cup of tea and a willingness to explore the possibilities within our own wellness journey.

The post Podcasthon 2026: Amplifying Wellness Through Community first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.

A Conversation with Christine Ruch on Regulation, Resilience, and the Art of Healing

In our recent podcast episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Christine Ruch about one of the most essential — and often overlooked — systems in the body: the nervous system.

In today’s world, many of us are operating in a constant state of subtle activation. We may not identify as “stressed,” yet our sleep is disrupted, our digestion fluctuates, our muscles hold tension, and our thoughts race. These are not random experiences. They are clues.

The nervous system is always communicating.

The question is — are we listening?

Audio Version

Why the Nervous System Matters

The nervous system is the master communication network of the body. It regulates:

Heart rate

Breathing patterns

Digestion

Hormone release

Immune function

Emotional processing

Focus and cognition

When the nervous system feels safe, we experience clarity, creativity, connection, and energy. When it feels threatened — even subtly — the body shifts into survival patterns.

Chronic low-level stress activates the sympathetic branch (fight or flight). Over time, this can lead to:

Muscle tightness and postural bracing

Digestive imbalance

Shallow breathing

Heightened anxiety or irritability

Fatigue from constant internal vigilance

True healing does not begin with pushing harder.
It begins with calming and nurturing the nervous system.

The Body Speaks in Sensations

In my conversation with Christine Ruch, we explored how the body continuously provides feedback:

A tight jaw may signal unspoken tension.

A collapsed posture may reflect emotional heaviness.

Digestive discomfort may reveal unresolved stress.

Restlessness may indicate nervous system dysregulation.

These are not inconveniences to ignore — they are invitations to awareness.

Modern neuroscience confirms what somatic traditions have long understood: the body stores and expresses emotional experience. When we pause and notice sensation — rather than override it — we begin to restore communication between brain and body.

This awareness builds interoception: the ability to sense and interpret internal body signals. Research shows that improved interoception supports emotional regulation, resilience, and better decision-making.

Listening is a skill. And like all skills, it can be cultivated.

To learn more about Christine Ruch and her work, please visit:

https://www.christineruch.com

Regulation Before Resolution

A powerful insight from the episode is this: we cannot cognitively solve what the nervous system has not yet regulated.

When the body is dysregulated, higher brain functions — including problem-solving and reflection — are diminished. This is why calming practices are not indulgences. They are prerequisites for growth.

Regulation practices may include:

Breathwork

Gentle movement such as Tai Chi or Qi Gong

Creative expression

Sound and rhythm

Nature immersion

Intentional pauses

These practices stimulate the parasympathetic branch of the nervous system — often called “rest and digest” — allowing the body to shift from survival into restoration.

When safety is restored internally, healing accelerates.

Tea Helps Us Along the Way

As we settle into this conversation, we introduce one of our most relaxing teas, great for daytime and evening, from the Cape Breton Tea Company: “To Be Honest.”

Its guiding affirmation is: “Coming back to my center creates a sense of honesty and integrity that brings everything into focus.”

This blend carries the spiritual essence of lemon balm and orange blossom—plants known for calming the nervous system, softening the heart, and gently restoring clarity and inner truth.
It is the perfect companion for today’s podcast conversation. What will you have in your cup while you listen?

The Role of the Arts in Nervous System Nourishment

One of the most exciting aspects of this conversation is the integration of the arts into regulation. Creative expression is not separate from science — it is supported by it.

Engaging in music, visual art, movement, and storytelling activates multiple neural networks simultaneously. This integration:

Enhances neuroplasticity

Supports emotional processing

Strengthens regulation pathways

Builds resilience

Encourages self-expression without overwhelm

This is the foundation of NeuroArts — the intentional blending of artistic expression with nervous system science.

The Artfilled Wellness Retreat – August

This August, we will be exploring these principles in depth at the Artfilled Wellness Retreat.

Register Here

This immersive experience will guide participants through:

A deeper understanding of nervous system states

Practical regulation techniques

NeuroArts practices to support integration

Movement and somatic awareness sessions

Creative exploration for emotional processing

Restorative experiences designed to nourish and replenish

The retreat is not about doing more.
It is about softening into awareness.

It is about recognizing that growth does not occur through force — it occurs through safety, nourishment, and intentional expansion.

When the nervous system feels supported, creativity returns.
Clarity sharpens.
Energy stabilizes.
And personal growth becomes sustainable rather than exhausting.

A New Way of Listening

The nervous system does not shout.
It whispers — through breath, posture, sensation, fatigue, tension, and intuition.

The conversation with Christine Ruch reminds us that healing begins when we listen.

Not with urgency.
Not with judgment.
But with curiosity and compassion.

As we continue to explore the science of regulation and the power of the arts to support well-being, we invite you to begin noticing:

What is your body telling you today?
Where might it be asking for calm?
Where might it be asking for nourishment?

When we listen, we regulate.
When we regulate, we grow.

And when we grow from a place of safety, transformation becomes sustainable.

The post Listening to the Nervous System first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.
