Season 5 Finale – Be Well with Dr. Michelle Greenwell podcast

As we close out Season 5 of Be Well with Dr. Michelle Greenwell, we arrive at a powerful and deeply personal theme—the voice. Not just as a tool for communication, but as a pathway to healing, expression, and transformation.

In this final episode, we are honoured to welcome Karen Novy, a vocal empowerment coach, NLP practitioner, author, and workshop facilitator whose work centers on helping individuals reclaim their voice and step fully into their authentic selves.

Karen’s journey as a breast cancer survivor has shaped her understanding of healing in profound ways. Through her work, she reminds us that our voice is not something external to refine—it is something internal to rediscover. It carries our truth, our story, and our capacity to transform.

The Voice as Medicine

So many of us move through life with a quieted voice—held back by past experiences, self-doubt, or the fear of being seen and heard. Yet, when we begin to explore our voice—whether through sound, tone, or expression—something shifts.

The body softens.
The breath deepens.
The mind quiets.

And in that space, we begin to reconnect with who we truly are.

Karen speaks to the first moment someone discovers their authentic tone—a moment often filled with lightness, surprise, and even joy. It is as though something long hidden has finally been given permission to emerge.

Your voice is not just sound.
Your voice is your medicine.

A Tea to Awaken Memory and Expression

In this episode, we paired our conversation with Sweet Memories, a blend inspired by family, legacy, and love from Creignish, Nova Scotia and Peggy Burke at the Studio Store.

This special Cape Breton Tea Company blend, with the gentle sweetness of strawberry and the grounding richness of black tea, invites reflection and connection.

Strawberry, with its heart-centered energy, encourages compassion, emotional openness, and the sweetness of cherished memories.

Black tea offers grounding and strength, supporting clarity, courage, and the confidence to express one’s truth.

Together, they create a sensory experience that mirrors the journey of finding your voice—soft yet strong, reflective yet empowering.

An Invitation to Experience It for Yourself

This conversation doesn’t end with the episode—it continues in community.

We invite you to join us for the 2nd Annual Healing Through Music and Movement Event hosted by Marathon Jam:

April 18, 2026
FREE Event
Register here: https://www.marathonjam.org/htm

This immersive day is designed to support veterans, first responders, caregivers, professionals, and community members in exploring tools to release trauma and build resiliency.

Participants will have the opportunity to work with an incredible team of facilitators:

Karen Novy – Vocal exploration and authentic expression

Lynn Koonce – Music, Vocal and Creative healing practices

Matthew Seymour – Music and experiential engagement

Colin MacLeod – Music and connection

Michelle Greenwell – Movement, energy, and integrative wellness

Through music, movement, voice, and creative expression, you will be guided into a space of belonging—where healing can begin, and transformation can unfold. It is a true pleasure for Michelle to be working with such incredible NeuroArts specialists in their field.

The Power of Belonging

One of the most profound aspects of this work is the sense of community that emerges.

When we give ourselves permission to be heard, we also begin to hear others more deeply.
When we express, we connect.
When we connect, we heal.

Events like this remind us that we are not alone in our experiences—and that healing is not something we have to navigate in isolation.

Closing Season 5… Opening Season 6

As we close Season 5, we reflect on the many pathways to wellness we have explored—through movement, energy, nature, and now, the voice.

And as we step into Season 6, we carry forward a powerful reminder:

Your voice is a magical part of who you are.
To claim it, to explore it, and to enjoy its resonance… is a beautiful life journey.

Let this be your invitation—
To listen inward…
To express outward…
And to trust that your voice matters.

Be well, and we’ll see you in Season 6.

Have you given yourself the space to pause, regroup, relax, and let go of your diagnosis or situation? The Illness Brain is something that can hold you in a pattern that continues to feed the situation. Join Laurin Wittig and Michelle Greenwell as they explore the power of vacation in this "Facing Dementia" podcast episode.

The post Illness Brain on Vacation: Reclaiming Calm, Clarity, and the Capacity to Heal first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.

In Episode 6 of Facing Dementia, Dr. Michelle Greenwell and Laurin Wittig explore a powerful and often overlooked aspect of healing: the need to step away from the constant mental focus on illness.

When we receive a diagnosis—or even anticipate one—the mind shifts. It becomes vigilant, analytical, and hyper-focused on doing everything “right.” We research, plan, track symptoms, and commit to protocols with diligence and care. While these actions come from a place of hope and responsibility, they can also create an unintended consequence: the rise of what we call the “Illness Brain.”

What Is the Illness Brain?

The Illness Brain is a pattern of thinking shaped by stress, fear, and the desire to regain control. It is characterized by:

Constant mental scanning for symptoms

Overanalyzing choices and outcomes

Feeling responsible for getting everything “perfect”

Difficulty relaxing or being present

A subtle (or not so subtle) identification with the diagnosis

From a scientific perspective, this makes sense. Chronic stress activates the brain’s threat detection systems—particularly the amygdala—and increases cortisol levels. Over time, this state reduces cognitive flexibility, narrows perspective, and keeps the nervous system in a loop of vigilance.

Ironically, the very effort to heal can keep the body in a state of stress, which is not conducive to healing at all.

Audio Version

When Doing Everything Right Becomes Too Much

One of the key insights from this episode is that in trying to do everything right, we can lose sight of something essential: healing requires calm.

When the mind is busy, the body cannot fully rest.
When the nervous system is activated, the body cannot fully repair.

Healing is not only about what we do—it is about the state we are in while doing it.

Laurin’s recent vacation offered a powerful contrast. Removed from daily routines, expectations, and constant mental processing, something shifted. The Illness Brain softened. The need to monitor and manage faded. In its place came presence, connection, and ease.

The Science of Stepping Away

Research on vacations and restorative breaks supports this experience. Time away from daily stressors has been shown to:

Lower cortisol levels

Improve heart rate variability (a marker of resilience)

Enhance mood and emotional regulation

Improve sleep quality

Increase cognitive flexibility and creativity

Nature immersion adds another layer of benefit. Being in natural environments reduces rumination—the repetitive thought patterns often associated with stress and anxiety—and supports parasympathetic (rest-and-repair) activation.

In simple terms:
When we step away, the brain recalibrates.

The Catch-22 of Healing

Another important theme explored in this episode is the idea that the same mindset that contributed to imbalance can also influence how we try to heal.

If patterns of overthinking, stress, perfectionism, or disconnection played a role in the development of illness, those same patterns may show up in the healing journey.

This creates a kind of catch-22:

We want to make the “right” choices

But the mind making those choices is still operating from old patterns

Sometimes this shows up as resistance. We may feel that something “doesn’t resonate” or “isn’t right,” and choose not to engage. But what if that resistance is not wisdom—but familiarity?

The Illness Brain often prefers the known, even if the known contributed to imbalance.

This is where healing asks something different of us.

Creating Space for Change

Rather than forcing ourselves into new practices or overwhelming change, the invitation is to begin with something simpler:

Create space.

Space in the mind.
Space in the body.
Space in the nervous system.

When we calm the internal environment, we become more open. New ideas feel less threatening. Experiences that once felt difficult or unfamiliar become approachable.

This is where true transformation begins—not through force, but through readiness.

Returning to Yourself

At its core, this episode is not just about taking a vacation. It is about remembering who you are beyond the diagnosis.

You are not only a patient, a caregiver, or a person navigating uncertainty.
You are still someone who can laugh, connect, explore, and feel joy.

The Illness Brain narrows identity.
Presence expands it.

A Gentle Practice to Take Forward

As you return to your daily life, consider this:

Pause for a moment.
Take a breath.
Recall a time when you felt calm, connected, and fully yourself.

Let that feeling settle into your body.

This is not escape.
This is access.

Access to a state where healing becomes possible—not through effort alone, but through ease, awareness, and being.

You are not your diagnosis.
You are a whole person, capable of healing, growth, and living fully—one breath, one moment, one choice at a time.

The post Illness Brain on Vacation: Reclaiming Calm, Clarity, and the Capacity to Heal first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.

What if healing isn’t something that happens to you…
but something that unfolds through you?

Many of us begin our healing journey focused on symptoms. We want relief. We want answers. We want change. And while those desires are natural and important, there comes a moment when we realize healing is not only about restoring the body — it is about restoring our relationship with ourselves.

When we bring the spiritual aspects of healing to the forefront of our lives, everything shifts.

Healing becomes less about fixing and more about remembering.
Less about striving and more about listening.
Less about pushing forward and more about coming home.

Audio Version

What Does It Mean to Live with Spiritual Healing at the Center?

Living spiritually aware does not require dramatic change. It does not mean retreating from daily life. Instead, it means becoming conscious of how you move through it.

It looks like:

Pausing before reacting.

Listening to the wisdom of your body.

Noticing patterns of thought that shape your reality.

Creating rituals that bring you back to presence.

Asking deeper questions when discomfort arises.

The spiritual dimension of healing invites us to see that our bodies are not problems to solve — they are messengers. Our emotions are not inconveniences — they are intelligence. Our challenges are not punishments — they are invitations.

When we begin to live this way, the nervous system softens. Awareness expands. And we experience something powerful: alignment.

Small Shifts That Create Profound Change

You don’t need to change your whole life to live more spiritually aligned. You can begin with simple, intentional shifts:

Start your morning with commencement and find the deep breath your body craves before reaching for your phone.

Replace self-criticism with curiosity, an openness to discover.

Create a tea ritual that signals safety and presence, brings the herbs closer to you.

Spend five minutes noticing what feels aligned and relaxed — and what doesn’t.

Ask yourself daily: Why is my action important and how is it serving me, is that my true desire?

Healing accelerates when we become conscious participants in our own evolution.

The science supports what spiritual traditions have always known: the body responds to perception, belief, coherence, and intention. When we live in alignment with our deeper self — when our thoughts, actions, and values harmonize — the body and mind experience less internal conflict. That coherence creates fertile ground for healing.

From Striving to Remembering

So many of us were taught to chase purpose as if it were somewhere ahead of us.

But what if purpose isn’t a destination?

What if it is a stabilizing force that emerges when we live honestly, presently, and in alignment with who we already are?

When we release the pressure to “become” and instead allow ourselves to remember, we experience flow. We enter the zone. The past no longer casts such a heavy shadow. We begin to live with richness rather than urgency.

Healing becomes integrated into everyday life.

Season 6: A New Trilogy Begins

As we move into Season 6, we are honored to welcome a powerful new trilogy featuring Ann Smets and Ann-Marie Boudreau — bringing together two complementary perspectives on spiritual healing, energy, and embodied awareness.

Together, these conversations will explore:

Releasing the past and transforming energetic patterns

Living in presence and cultivating inner coherence

Awakening purpose as an embodied, stabilizing force

Exploring frequency, sound, and expanded consciousness

Integrating spiritual insight into everyday living

Ann Smets brings deep wisdom around energy awareness, alignment, and multidimensional healing. Ann-Marie Boudreau expands the conversation into frequency, resonance, sound, and vocal expression as pathways to transformation. Together, these voices create a dynamic exploration of healing that bridges grounded embodiment with expanded consciousness.

This trilogy will not simply offer ideas — it will offer experiences. Invitations. Reflections. Opportunities to look at your own life and gently ask:

Where am I pushing when I could soften?
Where am I striving when I could trust?
Where am I disconnected from my own inner wisdom?

An Invitation

You don’t have to wait for a diagnosis, a crisis, or a turning point to live spiritually awake.

You can begin now.

In the next breath.
In the next pause.
In the next choice to listen inward.

Healing is not outside of you.
Purpose is not ahead of you.
Alignment is not something you earn.

It is already present — waiting for your awareness.

We invite you to join us for Season 6 as we explore healing not as a task to complete, but as a way of living — awake, embodied, and aligned.

The journey continues.

Have you ever noticed how certain thoughts or beliefs seem to repeat in your mind, almost on autopilot? These “stories” we tell ourselves—often originating from family patterns, early experiences, or deeply ingrained cultural expectations—can subtly shape our decisions, our confidence, and even our physical well-being. For many, these patterns fuel self-doubt, perfectionism, and what’s commonly referred to as imposter syndrome. But the good news is that these stories are not set in stone. With awareness, intentional practice, and the right tools, we can rewrite them, releasing blocks and opening the way for personal growth and goal realization.

How Our Bodies Hold Self-Doubt

Modern neuroscience and psychophysiology show us that the mind and body are deeply interconnected. Repetitive negative thoughts, such as “I’m not enough” or “I can’t succeed,” create stress in the nervous system and impact our organ systems. Chronic stress can lead to imbalances in the endocrine, digestive, and cardiovascular systems, which in turn affect energy, focus, and emotional regulation. Bioenergetic research suggests that unresolved emotions and repetitive thought patterns can manifest as tension, stiffness, or fatigue in specific regions of the body, effectively “holding” the story of doubt within us.

Fear and self-doubt have always been the greatest enemies of human potential – Brian Tracey

The Science Behind Rewriting Our Stories

Our program, The Stories We Tell Ourselves, integrates several evidence-based methods to address these deeply rooted patterns:

1. The BioEnergetic Wellness Formula
This approach recognizes that the body’s energy systems are not just metaphors—they influence mood, clarity, and action. By identifying areas where energy is blocked or stagnant, we can target specific interventions to restore flow, allowing the body and mind to work in harmony. Research in energy medicine and psychophysiology supports that intentional movements, focused breathing, and mindful awareness can shift these patterns and create measurable improvements in emotional and physical balance.

2. Goal Setting with Flow and Intention
Neuroscience shows that goal setting and visualization activate the prefrontal cortex, improving executive function and decision-making. When combined with the release of self-limiting beliefs and embodied awareness, goal setting becomes more than just a cognitive exercise—it becomes a holistic practice that aligns mind, body, and energy systems, supporting real-world results.

3. Awareness and Activation Practices
Movement-based activations—rooted in Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and bioenergetic techniques—stimulate circulation, nervous system regulation, and somatic awareness. These practices help participants notice where tension and doubt reside in the body, allowing energy to flow and new perspectives to emerge. Studies in somatic therapy suggest that body-focused interventions can accelerate the release of long-held emotional blocks, increasing resilience and confidence.

4. Intuitive Insights
Facilitating with Dr Michelle Greenwell, CIH BioEW, is Theresa Stone, an intuitive medium. She contributes personalized guidance that uncovers hidden aspects of personality and patterns that may be holding participants back. While not purely scientific, research in psychology supports that reflective and externalized perspectives—especially those that provide validation or new insight—can improve self-awareness, decision-making, and emotional regulation.

5. The Power of Journaling
Multiple studies highlight the cognitive and physiological benefits of journaling. Writing about emotions and personal narratives can reduce stress, clarify priorities, and reframe negative beliefs. Journaling helps solidify insights gained from activation exercises and intuitive guidance, making the learning experience both reflective and actionable. How do you move yourself forward with journaling, we will share the best approaches to create that momentum.

Empowerment Through Awareness and Action

Together, Michelle Greenwell and Theresa Stone guide participants through a process that is uniquely integrative. By combining bioenergetic techniques, mindful movement, guided introspection, and personalized insights, the program empowers participants to:

Release repetitive self-doubt and family-imposed limitations

Restore balance to the body’s energy and organ systems

Set clear, aligned intentions for personal and professional goals

Gain new self-awareness and insights that propel growth

This is not just a program about self-reflection—it’s a science-informed path to creating measurable change in thought patterns, energy flow, and life direction. Participants leave with tools that are practical, empowering, and transformative, ready to approach life with a new compass and a sense of inner balance.

When emotions like fear, anger, and uncertainty aren’t acknowledged, they don’t disappear — they become stored in the body. In this episode of Facing Dementia, we explore how bioenergetic wellness techniques calm the nervous system, harmonize the body’s systems, and allow emotions to be experienced in the present rather than trapped in the past. Naming the hard emotions becomes an act of empowerment, opening the door to clarity, peace, and healing.

In the fifth episode of Facing Dementia, Dr. Michelle Greenwell and Laurin Wittig open a conversation many people quietly avoid: the emotional reality that comes with illness and the anticipation of change. A diagnosis — or even the possibility of one — does not arrive in isolation. It brings fear, anger, grief, uncertainty, and a deep questioning of the future.

These emotions are not weaknesses. They are natural responses to disruption. Yet when emotions are not acknowledged or supported, they can become trapped in the body, settling into tissues, organs, and energy systems where they quietly influence health, mood, and resilience over time.

This episode invites a different approach — one grounded in bioenergetic wellness, where emotions are not suppressed or analyzed away, but gently experienced, balanced, and released.

Audio Here

Why Emotions Get Stuck

From both a physiological and energetic perspective, emotions are meant to move. When we feel fear, anger, or grief, the nervous system activates, the body responds, and ideally, the emotion completes its cycle and resolves.

However, with illness — especially conditions that carry stigma or uncertainty like dementia — emotions are often held back. People are told to “stay positive,” “not dwell on it,” or “wait and see.” Over time, this creates internal tension. The emotion does not disappear; it simply relocates, often embedding itself in muscles, fascia, organs, and energy pathways.

Bioenergetic wellness recognizes that unprocessed emotion creates disharmony across systems — physical, neurological, emotional, and energetic.

Calming the System Through Active Energy Balance

One of the core themes of this episode is that emotional healing does not require reliving trauma or forcing catharsis. Instead, it begins by calming the system.

Through gentle bioenergetic techniques — such as balancing the Switches for orientation in space, connection of the nervous system to the electrical system, and harmonizing directions in the body — the body receives signals of safety. When the nervous system shifts out of fight-or-flight, emotions no longer feel overwhelming or threatening.

This is the moment where change becomes possible.

Rubbing the Gait points on the foot, from the Feet First System Set 1, the body is able to open blocked areas in the body and in coordinating across dimensions as well as the brain-body connection. Rather than being trapped in the past or stored in tissue memory, emotions can be experienced in the present, acknowledged for what they are, and allowed to move through the system, as we step forward with an ease and grace in our step.

Naming Emotions as an Act of Empowerment

In this episode, Laurin shares wisdom passed down from her aunt many years ago — a simple insight that became a lifelong mantra. This teaching reminds us that when we name what we are feeling, we reclaim agency. Emotions no longer control us from the shadows; they become information.

Naming anger, fear, or uncertainty does not intensify them. It brings clarity. It allows the body and energy systems to reorganize around truth rather than tension.

This is one of the most powerful aspects of bioenergetic work: emotions are not judged or categorized as “good” or “bad.” They are welcomed as messengers, then gently integrated.

Tea as Emotional Ally: Releasing the Warrior

The featured tea for this episode, Releasing the Warrior, supports this process beautifully. With anise and cardamom, the blend offers warmth, softness, and grounding. Spiritually, these herbs invite the nervous system to release hypervigilance — the constant readiness to fight, brace, or defend.

The “warrior” here is not about strength through armor, but strength through presence. Through ritual — sipping tea, breathing, pausing — the body is reminded that it is safe to soften.

From Trapped Emotion to Lived Experience

When bioenergetic wellness techniques harmonize the systems, emotions are no longer stored as unresolved tension. They become lived experiences — felt, understood, and released.

This is especially important for those navigating illness or caregiving. Emotional harmony supports clearer thinking, better sleep, improved digestion, and a greater sense of peace — all of which directly influence overall health and quality of life.

Ways to Continue the Journey

If this episode resonates with you, there are many ways to explore emotional release and energetic harmony with Dr. Michelle Greenwell:

Awakening Inner Resonance – Sound Retreat with Ann-Marie Boudreau
A restorative experience using sound, vibration, movement, and frequency to calm the nervous system and release emotional buildup.

Each offering provides a different doorway into healing — because there is no single path. There are many ways to gently release trapped emotion, restore balance, and move forward with clarity and compassion.

Naming the hard emotions is not the end of the journey.
It is the beginning of living more fully, honestly, and in harmony with yourself.

The post Naming the Hard Emotions: How BioEnergetic Wellness Helps Us Move Forward first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.

February carries a quieter, more inward invitation. As winter continues to hold us in stillness, this month gently turns our attention toward relational wellbeing—how we connect to ourselves, to others, and to the deeper meaning we carry through challenge, illness, love, and resilience.

As we mark Psychology Month, we are reminded of something foundational: mental health is never separate from the body, the heart, or the energetic environments we live within. Our thoughts, emotions, relationships, and physiology are constantly in conversation, shaping how we respond to stress, care for ourselves, and support one another.

At CanBeWell (Canadian Association of BioEnergetic Wellness), February’s theme—Compassion, Connection & the Psychology of Care—invites us to explore compassion not simply as an emotion, but as a bioenergetic force: one that regulates stress, supports healing, and strengthens our sense of belonging.

Compassion as a BioEnergetic Practice

From a bioenergetic wellness perspective, compassion is not passive. It is active, measurable, and deeply embodied. When compassion is present—toward ourselves or others—the nervous system softens, breath deepens, and the body shifts out of survival mode. These changes create the internal conditions where healing, learning, and resilience can occur.

Research continues to show that compassionate states influence heart rate variability, stress hormone regulation, immune response, and emotional regulation. In energetic terms, compassion supports coherence—bringing the body’s systems into greater harmony. This is why compassion is central not only to mental health, but to whole-body wellbeing.

At the Greenwell Center, our programs help you learn more about this harmony, as well as through CanBeWell. We explore how intentional practices—movement, breath, touch, sound, and mindful awareness—can cultivate compassion as a lived experience rather than a concept. These tools help individuals respond to life with greater steadiness, even in times of uncertainty or strain.

The Psychology of Care: Beyond the Mind

Psychology Month offers an opportunity to widen the lens through which we understand care. While traditional psychology has focused primarily on cognition and behavior, integrative and bioenergetic approaches remind us that care is relational and embodied.

Dr Michelle Greenwell, CIH BioEW, first graduated with a Bachelor of Psychology, and enjoyed the profound shifts that movement for wellness created at an emotional level. Her work has continued to discover the deeper aspects of well-being through her latest NeuroArts programs – a link of her passion for the arts, music, dance, Tai Chi, and BioEnergetic Wellness. This winter, her Symphony of Radiance program has brought a heightened awareness to this profound way of working. NeuroArts is empowering at a magnitude not seen by basic movement activities, enjoying music, or doing art for creative expression. You can still sign up for the class, and consider how your self-care can be empowered. Class recordings, art, and additional resources are all ready for you to explore.

How we care for ourselves is shaped by:

Our nervous system patterns

Our relational histories

Our capacity for self-regulation and rest

The energetic environments we inhabit—workplaces, homes, communities

Care is not just what we think—it is how we feel in our bodies and how safe we feel in connection.

Through CanBeWell’s educational initiatives, newsletters, and events, we continue to highlight practices that support mental health in everyday living—especially in workplace and caregiving contexts where compassion fatigue, burnout, and emotional overload are increasingly common. Be sure to see the FREE award-winning e-books on the front page of the website – Mental Health for the Workplace and BioEnergetic Essentials.

Connection as Medicine

Human connection is one of the most powerful regulators of wellbeing. Feeling seen, heard, and supported alters physiology, strengthens resilience, and restores a sense of meaning. In bioenergetic terms, connection enhances flow—reducing stagnation and supporting adaptive response.

February reminds us that connection begins internally. Self-compassion—meeting ourselves with curiosity rather than judgment—is often the first step toward healthier relationships with others. From there, care expands outward, shaping families, teams, organizations, and communities.

CanBeWell’s community spaces—newsletters, conversations, workshops, and collaborative projects—are designed to foster this sense of shared learning and belonging. They offer places where people can explore wellness together, grounded in both science and lived experience.

Supporting Mental Health Through Everyday Tools

One of CanBeWell’s core commitments is accessibility. Bioenergetic wellness is not reserved for specialists—it offers practical tools that support daily self-care. Simple practices such as conscious breathing, gentle movement, grounding touch, and intentional pauses can significantly influence mental and emotional wellbeing.

These approaches do not replace psychological care; rather, they complement and enhance it, acknowledging the inseparable relationship between mind, body, and energy.

As Leadership Team President, Michelle’s role has been to help steward this integrative vision forward—ensuring that compassion, research-informed education, and practical application remain at the heart of CanBeWell’s work.

An Invitation for February

This month, we invite you to:

Reflect on how compassion shows up in your body and daily choices

Explore CanBeWell’s resources, newsletters, and events

Consider how bioenergetic practices might support your mental health and relational wellbeing

Engage with a community committed to care, curiosity, and connection

February teaches us that care is not something we offer only when things are easy. It is something we cultivate—through presence, practice, and relationship. Compassion, when understood as a bioenergetic force, becomes a pathway toward resilience, healing, and meaningful connection.

Through CanBeWell and the Greenwell Center, we continue to explore what it means to care well—for ourselves, for one another, and for the systems we are part of.

With warmth and compassion,

What if healing isn’t about doing more — but about remembering more?

In Episode 2 of our Spiritual Healing Trilogy, Ann Smets and Dr Michelle Greenwell, CIH BioEW invite us into a deeper understanding of healing through the lens of the quantum body — the energetic field that shapes our physical experience long before symptoms appear.

So often, healing is framed as a battle: fixing, fighting, pushing through. Yet when we spend time with our spiritual side, something remarkable happens. The focus shifts. The body softens. Awareness expands. And healing begins to unfold in ways that feel less effortful — and far more profound.

Audio Version

Healing Beyond Symptoms

Symptoms are messengers, not enemies. When we identify ourselves solely by what hurts or feels broken, we narrow the field of possibility. The quantum body reminds us that we are more than our symptoms — we are dynamic, responsive, and deeply intelligent systems of energy and information.

When attention moves from “What’s wrong with me?” to “Who am I beneath this experience?”, the nervous system calms, coherence increases, and the body’s innate healing capacity comes back online.

The Science of Innate Healing

Emerging research in psychoneuroimmunology, epigenetics, and quantum biology continues to affirm what ancient healing traditions have long known:

The body responds to belief, intention, and perception

Focused awareness can influence cellular communication

Coherent emotional states support regulation, repair, and resilience

Healing accelerates when we are present with ourselves — not striving to change who we are, but listening deeply to what is already emerging.

Tea as a Portal: Golden SereniTEA & the Quantum Body

Today’s tea is Golden SereniTEA from the Cape Breton Tea Company — a blend intentionally chosen to support grounding, integration, and gentle inner strength. In conversations about the quantum body and energetic healing, tea becomes more than a beverage. It becomes a ritual of coherence.

When we slow down to prepare and sip tea, the nervous system shifts. The body moves out of urgency and into receptivity. This subtle change creates the ideal internal environment for healing, awareness, and insight to arise.

Two of the guiding herbs in Golden SereniTEA are Bael Nut and Turmeric, each carrying a unique spiritual and physiological intelligence.

Bael Nut has long been honoured in traditional healing systems as a stabilizer — supporting digestion, resilience, and inner equilibrium. Spiritually, Bael Nut is associated with integration: helping us digest not only food, but experiences, emotions, and life lessons. In the context of quantum healing, Bael Nut reminds us that healing happens when we allow experiences to be fully processed and integrated rather than pushed away or overridden.

Turmeric, often called a golden healer, brings warmth, circulation, and vitality. Beyond its well-known anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric carries the energetic signature of confidence and empowerment. It gently supports the body in restoring balance while reminding us of our innate strength. On a spiritual level, turmeric is associated with illumination — helping us see clearly, soften resistance, and trust the intelligence within our own system.

Together, these herbs mirror the themes of today’s conversation:
healing that is not forced, but allowed; strength that is not aggressive, but steady; transformation that emerges through presence rather than effort.

As we sip Golden SereniTEA, we are invited to embody today’s affirmation:

“Soften the desire to push through.
With confidence and an authentic self-love, welcome peace within.”

In this moment of pause, the tea becomes a bridge — connecting body, energy, and awareness. It reminds us that healing is not something we chase, it is something we create space for.

Coming Home to the Heart

True healing doesn’t come from abandoning the body — it comes from returning to it with compassion. When we come home to the heart, we remember that we are not broken systems in need of repair, but living beings in a continual process of becoming.

This episode invites you to soften your focus, expand your awareness, and explore healing as a conversation with your deepest self — one guided by energy, coherence, and spiritual presence.

Episode 2 is part of a three-part journey exploring:

Releasing what no longer serves

Finding peace through present-moment awareness

Living in alignment with purpose and inner truth

Join us as we continue this exploration — where healing becomes less about effort, and more about remembrance.

There are stories we consciously tell ourselves — and then there are the quieter ones.

The ones held in our posture. The ones whispered through tension, breath, and sensation. The ones that shape how we see ourselves, how we interpret life, and how we move forward.

As we enter a new season, many of us feel the pull to reflect, reset, and realign. Yet true change rarely comes from force or fixing. It arises from awareness — from learning how to listen beneath the surface and giving ourselves permission to soften long‑held patterns.

This February 25th at 4 pm Atlantic, we are offering a new 90‑minute experiential workshop designed to do exactly that.

Where Body Awareness Meets Conscious Reflection

The Stories We Tell Ourselves is a live, online experiential workshop that gently explores the relationship between posture, inner narrative, energy, and conscious journaling. It is an invitation to slow down, listen inwardly, and reconnect with the wisdom already present within the body.

The stories we tell ourselves are not only mental constructs. They are shaped by lived experiences, emotional responses, and the ways our nervous system has learned to protect us. Over time, these stories become embodied — expressed through posture, movement habits, breath patterns, and energetic holding.

By bringing awareness to the body and offering intentional journaling prompts, we create a bridge between sensation and insight, between what we feel and how we interpret it.

Why Journaling With the Right Focus Matters

Journaling can be a powerful tool for mental health, clarity, and integration — but only when it is approached with the right intention.

This workshop does not use journaling as analysis or problem‑solving. Instead, it offers guided, compassionate prompts that:

Support emotional regulation and nervous system ease

Encourage curiosity rather than judgment

Create space for insight without forcing outcomes

Help participants notice and gently re‑author inner narratives

When journaling is paired with body awareness and gentle movement, it becomes a form of listening rather than doing. This combination allows new perspectives to emerge naturally — often revealing what we are ready to release, rewrite, or carry forward with greater harmony.

Register Here

An Experiential Journey of Awareness and Choice

During this 90‑minute experience, participants are guided through a carefully held flow that supports both grounding and expansion:

Arriving and grounding practices to create energetic safety and presence

An Inner Smile meditation to harmonize organ systems and open internal space

Posture awareness and gentle movement to notice how stress and belief patterns live in the body

Two guided journaling experiences that invite listening first, then conscious re‑authoring

Group reflection and integration, offering connection without pressure or spotlighting

A Soul‑Aligned Word is also introduced as a subtle companion throughout the workshop — not something to analyze, but something to notice as awareness deepens.

This approach supports participants in reclaiming authorship over their inner experience — not by changing who they are, but by softening the lens through which they see themselves.

Supporting Mental Health Through Embodied Awareness

Mental health is not just about what we think — it is deeply connected to how safe, supported, and present we feel in our bodies.

By integrating breath, posture awareness, movement, and reflective writing, this workshop helps participants:

Feel more grounded and regulated

Increase self‑compassion and emotional awareness

Recognize unconscious stories that influence perception

Develop practical tools for ongoing self‑care

The result is not a dramatic overhaul, but a gentle recalibration — one that supports clarity, resilience, and a renewed sense of choice.

What You’ll Receive

All participants receive:

A live 90‑minute experiential workshop

A posture handout and movement video list

Conscious Insight Journal – Volume 1 (ebook)

A 1‑page Reflection & Integration PDF to support continued journaling

Optional early‑bird add‑ons include a mini or full tea package and a printed journal, allowing tea to become a ritual anchor for reflection and integration in the weeks that follow, and a journal to hold and inspire you for more writing opportunities and insights.

A Space to Listen, Not Fix

This workshop is not about forcing change or fixing what feels uncomfortable.

It is about:

Listening beneath habitual stories

Softening held tension

Bringing harmony to body, mind, and energy

Choosing what you are ready to carry forward

If you are feeling called to reconnect with your inner voice, support your mental health through embodied awareness, or explore journaling as a compassionate and empowering practice, this experience offers a gentle place to begin.

Awareness is the doorway.
The body holds the wisdom.
The story can change.

Sharing the 150th Episode of the Be Well with Dr Michelle Greenwell Podcast with the Ann Smets Trilogy – Episode 1 — Spirituality Isn’t Woo, It’s Wiring

What if healing doesn’t begin with fixing what feels broken—but with remembering who you truly are?

In Episode 1 of our new podcast series, Healing Through Spirituality, Ann Smets and I open a conversation that gently shifts the lens of wellness. For decades, health has been framed primarily through physical symptoms, nutrition plans, mental strategies, and emotional processing. These are important layers—but they are not the whole story.

There is another dimension of healing that is often overlooked: the spiritual field—the energetic intelligence that informs how our bodies organize, adapt, and restore balance.

This episode is an invitation to explore spirituality not as belief or dogma, but as the original wiring of being human.

Audio Version

Spirituality as an Innate Design, Not an Add-On

From a scientific perspective, the human body is a complex, self-organizing system. Every cell communicates through electrical signals, electromagnetic fields, biochemical messengers, and subtle frequencies. Long before symptoms appear, the body registers information through sensation, intuition, and energetic shifts.

Research in psychoneuroimmunology, heart–brain coherence, and biofield science shows us that states of presence, safety, and coherence directly influence healing outcomes. When the nervous system shifts out of chronic stress and into regulation, the body’s innate repair mechanisms activate more efficiently.

In other words, the body knows how to heal—when the conditions are right.

Spirituality plays a critical role in creating those conditions. When we are disconnected from ourselves—rushing, overriding intuition, living in constant reaction—our systems stay in survival mode. Healing becomes slower, fragmented, or stalled.

When we reconnect, healing accelerates.

The Tea Ritual: A Spiritual Gateway to Presence

This is why we begin each episode with a tea ritual.

Tea is more than a beverage. Across cultures and centuries, tea has been used as a threshold practice—a way of crossing from distraction into presence, from external noise into inner listening.

In Episode 1, we share SoulTEA Harbour, a blend designed to create a sense of safety and arrival. A harbour is a place where ships rest, refuel, and realign before continuing their journey. Spiritually, this is what tea offers us: a pause that allows the nervous system to soften and the heart to open.

Two key herbs in this blend speak directly to healing at the energetic level:

Licorice root, known in herbal traditions as a harmonizer, supports balance across systems. Energetically, it softens rigidity—helping us release the inner pressure to push, strive, or hold it all together.

Anise brings clarity and expanded perception. It supports the intuitive field, helping us see beyond surface-level narratives into deeper truth.

Together, they create a gentle alchemy: grounding and awakening, soothing and clarifying. This combination mirrors the healing process itself—we soften first, then insight emerges.

Coming Home to the Heart

At the center of this episode is a simple but profound idea:
Healing begins when we come home to our heart.

The heart is not just a physical pump; it is a powerful electromagnetic center that communicates with the brain and the rest of the body. Studies from the HeartMath Institute show that when we cultivate heart-focused awareness—through breath, intention, or ritual—we enter a state of coherence. In this state, physiological systems synchronize, stress hormones decrease, and clarity improves.

From a spiritual lens, the heart is also the seat of truth. When we slow down enough to listen, the heart reveals what we need—not what we’ve been told we should need.

The affirmation we share in Episode 1 captures this beautifully:

“Balance and flow is possible when we open to be present for our true heart’s desires.
Come home to your heart.”

This is not about chasing healing. It’s about being in it.

Focus, Identity, and Accelerated Healing

One of the most overlooked aspects of healing is identity. When we define ourselves by illness, struggle, or what’s missing, the body organizes around that story. When we reconnect to who we are beneath the symptoms—our values, intuition, creativity, and inner wisdom—the body receives a new signal.

Focus matters.

When attention is aligned with authenticity rather than fear, the nervous system settles. When intention is rooted in self-connection rather than self-correction, healing pathways open more readily.

This is the innate potential we explore in Episode 1: healing not as effort, but as remembering alignment.

An Invitation

This first episode is a doorway.

If you’ve felt that something essential has been missing from your wellness journey…
If you’ve sensed that healing requires more than protocols and plans…
If you’re ready to listen more deeply to yourself…

We invite you to begin here.

Make a cup of tea.
Place a hand on your heart.
And allow yourself to come home.

Episode 1 of Healing Through Spirituality is now live.
Episode 2 will explore Healing & the Quantum Body: How Energy Creates Reality.

Your healing journey is not about becoming someone new.
It’s about remembering who you’ve always been.

What if creativity is not just an expression of imagination, but a biological necessity for brain health? In this episode of Facing Dementia, we explore the science behind creativity and why the brain cannot function optimally without movement, sensory input, and energetic flow. From the role of the hips and shoulders in supporting cognitive clarity, to the power of music, colour, and frequency in accessing memory and emotion, this conversation reframes creativity as a vital tool for healthy aging. Through mindful rituals, movement, and sensory engagement, creativity becomes a pathway to resilience, presence, and empowered living — even in the face of cognitive change.

In the fourth episode of Facing Dementia, Dr. Michelle Greenwell and Laurin Wittig turn their attention to a powerful yet often misunderstood ally in cognitive wellbeing: creativity. While most research on dementia and brain health focuses on cognition alone, this conversation widens the lens, exploring how creativity emerges from the body, the senses, and the energetic systems that support neural function.

What the Science Says About Creativity and the Brain

Scientific studies consistently show that creative engagement supports neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to form new connections, adapt to change, and recover from stress. Activities such as art-making, writing, problem-solving, and imaginative play stimulate multiple regions of the brain simultaneously, strengthening communication between hemispheres and neural networks.

Creativity has also been linked to improved executive function, emotional regulation, and cognitive flexibility—all essential factors in healthy aging. For individuals navigating memory challenges or early cognitive changes, creative practices may slow functional decline by encouraging the brain to find alternative pathways for expression and understanding.

However, much of this research still frames creativity as a mental activity. What is often missing is the foundational role of the body.

Audio Version

Why Movement Is Essential for Brain Function

From a movement science and bioenergetic wellness perspective, the brain cannot operate at full capacity without accurate information about the body’s position in space—a process known as proprioception. This information is largely transmitted through movement of the shoulder seams and hip seams.

The shoulders inform the brain about reaching, interacting, and relating to the world.

The hips anchor balance, grounding, and forward momentum.

When these joints are restricted, the brain receives incomplete data, increasing neurological stress and reducing cognitive efficiency. Conversely, fluid movement of the hips and shoulders enhances sensory feedback, stabilizes the nervous system, and supports creative thinking.

The hips, in particular, are vital energy centers. In many movement traditions, they are understood as reservoirs of vital energy, supporting stamina, adaptability, and clarity—qualities deeply intertwined with creativity and resilience. In Tai Chi we refer to this as the Lower Dan Tien, where the ‘Golden Pill’ or vital energy for the body is built and stored for use later.

Music, Memory, and the Power of Frequency

Much attention has been given to studies showing how music reaches parts of the brain associated with emotion and memory, even when cognitive recognition is impaired. This is especially relevant in dementia care, where familiar songs can evoke vivid emotional responses long after names or facts fade.

Beyond melody, there is growing interest in the role of frequency and vibration. Sound waves influence brainwave states, nervous system regulation, and emotional balance. Similarly, colour frequency—how the brain and body respond to light wavelengths—can affect mood, focus, and energy levels.

Creativity thrives when these sensory frequencies are harmonized. Sound, colour, and movement work together to create an environment where the brain feels safe, stimulated, and supported.

The Five Senses and Embodied Creativity

One of the most accessible tools for supporting creativity and mental health is conscious sensory engagement. When we fully engage our five senses—sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell—we anchor ourselves in the present moment. This reduces anxiety, calms the nervous system, and strengthens memory formation.

Sensory-rich experiences create what are often called embodied memories—memories that are stored not just cognitively, but emotionally and physically. These memories remain accessible even when cognitive recall becomes challenging, offering comfort, orientation, and a sense of identity.

Tea as a Daily Creative Ritual

In this episode, the tea Take the Shore Road becomes both metaphor and nutrition. Featuring blue pea flower, hibiscus, and green tea, this blend supports brain health through circulation, antioxidant protection, and gentle cognitive stimulation.

The affirmation associated with the tea—“Be present and mindful of all that you see when you slow down and check out the view”—reinforces the role of mindfulness and sensory awareness in creative living. Tea rituals invite pause, reflection, and engagement with the senses, creating space for creativity to unfold naturally.

Creativity as a Path Forward

For Laurin, creativity is no longer simply an artistic outlet—it is a strategic and soulful component of her wellbeing following a precursor to dementia diagnosis. Writing, mentoring, movement, and sensory rituals have become ways of supporting brain health while cultivating meaning and joy.

This episode of Facing Dementia reminds us that creativity is not optional. It is an essential biological process—one that connects brain, body, energy, and experience. By moving, sensing, listening, and creating, we give the brain what it needs to adapt, heal, and thrive.

Creativity, it turns out, may be one of our most powerful tools for aging with intention, resilience, and hope.
