How are you cultivating peace within? Join us for the award-winning Magnifying Peace Project as we share some insights into the power of nature and nurturing ourselves.

There is a moment in nature when everything becomes still — when a bird lands at a feeder, looks around, and chooses to trust the world enough to eat. This week’s Magnifying Peace Project video captures exactly that: a small bird relaxing into the safety of the moment, trusting its surroundings, and nourishing itself without fear.

While it may seem like a simple scene, this moment reminds us of something essential about the human healing process. Just like the bird, we are constantly assessing whether it’s safe to “land,” rest, breathe, and receive what we need. And like the bird, our healing begins the moment our nervous system feels safe enough to soften.

Safety: The Starting Point of All Healing

In the world of bioenergetic wellness, we understand that safety is the foundation of healing. Without it, the body remains on alert. The nervous system stays in a sympathetic state — ready to fight, flee, or freeze. Healing cannot occur when the system is bracing against the world.

But when we feel safe?
The brain shifts into a parasympathetic state — sometimes called the rest, restore, digest, and heal state.
• Muscles release tension.
• Breathing deepens.
• Digestion improves.
• Heart rate steadies.
• Immune function strengthens.

Safety isn’t just a feeling — it is a physiological pathway to peace.

Just as the bird’s small act of trust allows it to nourish its body, our own sense of trust opens the door to physical, emotional, and energetic nourishment.

Trust: The Bridge Between Fear and Peace

Trust is not something we decide once; it is something we build over time. It grows in the spaces where we feel seen, supported, and understood. It deepens when we create environments — internally or externally — where we are not judged, rushed, or expected to be more than we can hold.

When we cultivate trust within ourselves, something extraordinary happens:
We begin to heal.

Trust tells the body, “You are safe now.”
Trust tells the heart, “You can rest.”
Trust tells the mind, “It is okay to release the tension you’ve been carrying.”

And once trust is present, peace follows naturally. The nervous system is soothed. The systems of the body fall into harmony. Our thoughts slow, our emotions soften, and our energy reorganizes into coherence.

This week’s video reminds us that, like the bird, we thrive when we feel safe enough to simply “be.”

Creating Safe Spaces for Ourselves and Others

One of the profound teachings behind the Magnifying Peace Project is that peace begins internally and radiates outward. When we cultivate inner safety — when we choose trust over fear — we naturally create calm for others.

Think of how you feel when you are around someone who is grounded, compassionate, and present.
Your body relaxes.
Your breath slows.
Your mind becomes clearer.

This is not accidental — it’s energetic entrainment.
Calm systems help regulate other systems.

This is why peace is contagious.
And it’s also why your personal inner work is never just about you.

Honouring the Magnifying Peace Project: Legacy Leader Award

This week, as we release this gentle and meaningful video, we are also humbled to share exciting news:
The Magnifying Peace Project has received the “Legacy Leader Award” from CanBeWell – the Canadian Association of BioEnergetic Wellness, in recognition of our Community Outreach and impact through World Energies.

This award holds deep significance for us — not because of recognition, but because it honours the intention behind the work: to create weekly, accessible moments of peace that ripple outward into homes, families, communities, and workplaces.

Our peers have witnessed how these videos — these small seeds of peace — have inspired new ways of thinking, connecting, healing, and holding space for others. Their recognition strengthens our commitment to continue offering the world a gentle reminder:

Peace grows wherever it is nurtured.

Bringing It All Together: The Bird, The Breath, The Moment

As you watch Marian’s video of the bird at the feeder, consider the following questions:

Where in your life can you create more safety for yourself?

Where can you soften and trust the moment?

How might you offer safety and trust to someone else?

What tension could you release if you allowed peace to enter?

Healing does not come from doing more, forcing more, or pushing harder.
Healing comes from allowing, trusting, and choosing peace one moment at a time.

May this week’s video invite you to stop, breathe, and feel the quiet truth that lives within you:
You are safe.
You are supported.
And peace is possible.

We invite you to watch the video, share your reflections, subscribe, and help us magnify peace in every corner of the world.

When we take time to create with children, we’re doing more than making art — we’re nurturing peace. Through creativity, we help them build confidence, compassion, and calm, modeling what it means to find peace within and share it outward. Watch Marian Egan’s newest Magnifying Peace Project video and be inspired to paint, connect, and magnify peace together.

The post Magnifying Peace Through Creativity: Painting with the Next Generation first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.

There is something timeless about watching children explore their creativity — the way their faces light up as colors blend, the concentration in their eyes as they make each brushstroke, and the laughter that bubbles up when they discover something new. In Marian Egan’s latest Magnifying Peace Project video, this moment unfolds beautifully as she paints alongside her granddaughters. Together, they share not only paint and paper but the deeper lessons that come with creating in harmony — lessons about peace, connection, and love.

When we take the time to guide children in creative exploration, we are doing much more than teaching them to draw or paint. We are helping them to build inner resources that foster emotional regulation, self-confidence, and compassion. Art provides a safe space for self-expression, where feelings can be explored and released in healthy ways. This process naturally cultivates a sense of inner peace — a calm that can later be reflected outward in relationships, actions, and the way they move through the world.

Creativity as a Pathway to Peace

Research in psychology and neuroscience shows that creative activities engage both hemispheres of the brain, encouraging balance between logic and intuition, structure and imagination. When a child paints, their brain integrates movement, emotion, and focus — the same kind of whole-brain activity that mindfulness or meditation produces. These integrated states reduce stress hormones and increase dopamine, the neurotransmitter associated with joy and motivation.

This is why creative expression can be so deeply healing. It invites us to enter a flow state, a moment where time stands still and the mind becomes present. When children are given opportunities to engage in creativity — especially alongside adults who model patience, openness, and encouragement — they learn that peace doesn’t need to be sought outside of themselves. It already lives within, waiting to be expressed.

Modeling Connection and Compassion

Painting with children is also a powerful act of connection. It’s a shared language that transcends words, creating space for genuine presence and togetherness. When we sit beside a child and allow their imagination to take the lead, we send a clear message: I see you. Your ideas matter.

This simple affirmation builds trust and nurtures self-worth. It also teaches children how to hold space for others — an essential aspect of compassion. As Marian paints with her granddaughters, you can feel this energy of mutual respect and discovery. There is no pressure to create something perfect. The goal is to explore, to express, and to enjoy the journey.

In that shared act, peace is magnified — not as a concept, but as a lived experience.

Building Confidence and Calm

Creativity helps children develop resilience. When a line doesn’t turn out as expected or a color mixes differently than planned, they learn to adapt and try again. This gentle process of trial and curiosity teaches them that mistakes are simply part of learning — not something to fear.

In a world where young people are often overstimulated and over-scheduled, moments of creativity offer a reprieve. They slow the pace, invite reflection, and provide time to breathe. By nurturing these experiences, we give children tools for lifelong wellness — the ability to find calm in chaos, to turn inward when life feels heavy, and to express emotion through beauty rather than frustration.

The Ripple Effect of Shared Peace

The Magnifying Peace Project reminds us that peace is not something we achieve once; it is something we cultivate every day through our actions, our words, and our relationships. When Marian paints with her granddaughters, she is helping to grow a generation that understands peace not as a destination but as a way of being.

Each shared moment of creativity becomes a seed — one that will grow in ways we may never see, influencing how children treat themselves and others for years to come.

When we nurture peace within ourselves, we create the capacity to share it outwardly. And when we model this for the next generation, we build a foundation for a more compassionate, connected, and peaceful world.

Join us in magnifying peace. Watch Marian’s video, and take a few moments to create something today — a drawing, a doodle, a shared craft with someone you love. Let your creativity be a source of calm and connection.

What if peace was only 60 seconds away? By pausing to breathe, center, and reconnect with the senses, we can calm the nervous system and find focus within—even in the busiest of days. The Greenwell Center’s Magnifying Peace Project reminds us that moment by moment, we have the power to restore balance and cultivate calm.

The post 60 Seconds to Peace: The Power of Centering in a Busy World first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.

In a world that moves at the speed of light, finding a sense of calm can sometimes feel impossible. Our minds spin between deadlines, messages, and responsibilities, while our bodies absorb the constant stress of being “on.” Yet, what if peace wasn’t something we had to wait for—a vacation, a quiet weekend, or a meditation retreat? What if it only took 60 seconds to return to a calm, centered, and peaceful state?

At the Greenwell Center, we believe wellness begins with awareness—and that even the smallest mindful moments can shift your energy, physiology, and emotional balance. Science agrees: just one minute of focused breathing and centering can begin to calm the nervous system, restore coherence between heart and brain, and help you refocus from the inside out.

The Science of Centering

When you feel stressed or scattered, your body moves into a state of sympathetic activation—often called the fight, flight, or freeze response. Heart rate increases, breathing becomes shallow, and your brain is flooded with stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. This system is designed to protect us, but when it stays active too long, it can lead to fatigue, anxiety, and disconnection from our own sense of peace.

Centering techniques—such as slow, mindful breathing or grounding your awareness in the body—help activate the parasympathetic nervous system, sometimes called the “rest and restore” mode. Research shows that within 60 seconds of deep, rhythmic breathing, your heart rate variability improves, blood pressure lowers, and your brain begins to shift from beta (stress-driven) to alpha (relaxed, focused) brainwave patterns.

These physiological changes don’t just calm you down—they reconnect you with your inner compass. By bringing your awareness inward, you align the energy of body, mind, and spirit, creating a sense of centered presence.

The Power of the Breath

Your breath is one of the simplest and most powerful tools for creating peace. A slow inhale through the nose, a gentle pause, and a long, easy exhale through the mouth can create instant harmony in your system. Breathwork influences the vagus nerve—a key part of the body’s relaxation response—helping to regulate the heart and digestive system while releasing muscular tension.

Try this quick 60-second practice:

Sit or stand tall, letting your shoulders relax.

Inhale slowly through your nose.

Let your hands rise up from by your sides to your shoulder height.

Exhale, releasing your arms to softly descend back to your sides.

Repeat, feeling the connection of the feet to the lightness of your arms.

As you breathe, let your focus rest on your heart area. Imagine each breath creating a soft wave of light or warmth through your chest. By the end of one minute, notice how your body feels—more grounded, open, and at ease. This movement is known as commencement and can be found on our YouTube channel here.

Finding Focus Inside

Centering isn’t about escaping the world—it’s about finding your still point within it. Through Tai Chi, meditation, or mindfulness-based practices, you learn to observe rather than react, to flow rather than fight. Studies from Harvard and Stanford have shown that even short periods of mindfulness improve concentration, emotional regulation, and overall well-being.

When you take 60 seconds to turn inward, you’re not just calming your body—you’re strengthening your mental focus. Each moment of awareness trains the brain to return to equilibrium faster, even during chaos. Over time, these micro-moments of peace accumulate, reshaping your baseline from stress-driven to steady and serene.

Bringing Peace into Everyday Life

You don’t need a quiet studio or a long meditation session to center yourself. You can do it while waiting in line, sitting at a red light, or pausing before a meeting. Each time you take a mindful breath, you’re teaching your body that peace is possible—even in motion.

At the Greenwell Center, we use practices like Tai Chi, movement therapy, and energy awareness to help people rediscover their natural balance. The Magnifying Peace Project was created as a reminder that peace begins with a single, intentional breath.

So the next time life feels overwhelming, remember this:
It doesn’t take an hour to find your calm.
It only takes 60 seconds to peace.

Tai Chi can be found at: Tai Chi Cape Breton (in person, Inverness County Cape Breton Island), Wine Country Tai Chi Society (in person, West Kelowna and Peachland BC), or Movement and Music (online).
