Wellness is not measured only by what we avoid. It can also be discovered in how fully we choose to live.

What if your calendar could become one of your most practical wellness tools?

Most calendars tell a familiar story: appointments, meetings, errands, deadlines, caregiving responsibilities, and lists of things that need to be completed. Somewhere between all of those obligations, the activities that restore us are often postponed until everything else is done.

But everything is rarely finished. The walk, the cup of tea, the creative project, the music, or the conversation with a friend gets moved to another day.

During a recent Facing Dementia podcast conversation with Laurin Wittig, we explored a different way to organize daily life. Instead of beginning with obligations, what might happen if we first placed the experiences that bring us joy onto the calendar?

We called this simple practice the Joy Calendar.

Audio Version

What Is a Joy Calendar?

A Joy Calendar begins by giving meaningful and restorative experiences a visible place in the day. They are not rewards that must be earned after the work is done. They are part of what creates the energy, clarity, and resilience needed for everything else.

Your calendar might include ten quiet minutes with tea, a walk in nature, Tai Chi or gentle movement, music, gardening, painting, journaling, reading, time with someone you love, or simply watching the morning light arrive.

The activity does not need to be elaborate or time-consuming. A small, intentional experience can change the rhythm of the entire day.

Is It a Joy or a Chore?

One of the most interesting discoveries in our podcast conversation was that many daily activities are not automatically joyful or unpleasant. Much of our experience depends on the meaning, attention, and energy we bring to them.

Preparing dinner may feel like one more task, or it can become a creative act of nourishment. Walking the dog may feel like another responsibility, or it can become an invitation to notice the breeze, birdsong, and changing season. Folding laundry may feel repetitive, or it can become a quiet moment of caring for ourselves and the people we love.

Reframing does not deny that responsibilities require effort. It allows us to notice that changing how we enter an activity can transform how we experience it.

Begin with Awareness

Before changing your calendar, spend a day observing your responses. Which activities cause your shoulders to tighten? Which moments help your breathing soften? What leaves you depleted? What restores your energy? What do you anticipate with curiosity, and what do you approach with resentment or pressure?

This is not an exercise in judging yourself. It is an opportunity to receive biofeedback from your own experience. Awareness helps us recognize what our body, emotions, and energy may be communicating before stress becomes overwhelming.

How to Start Your Joy Calendar

Begin with three experiences you would genuinely enjoy this week. Place them on the calendar before filling every open space with tasks. Choose moments that feel realistic and meaningful rather than creating another demanding wellness plan.

You might schedule a morning drink on the deck, an evening walk, a swim, a visit to a market, time in the garden, an art activity, a favourite summer meal, or a phone call with someone who makes you laugh.

Then consider the responsibilities already on your calendar. Ask whether any of them can be reframed, paired with something enjoyable, shared with someone else, moved to a better time, or completed with more compassion and less internal pressure.

Joy, Emotional Release, and Mental Wellbeing

When life becomes dominated by obligation, the nervous system may have few opportunities to recover. We can become mentally scattered, emotionally reactive, physically tired, and disconnected from what makes life meaningful.

Joyful experiences create opportunities for restoration. Laughter, movement, creativity, nature, music, companionship, and quiet reflection can interrupt familiar stress patterns and make room for emotions to shift. Sometimes a walk allows frustration to move. Music may help sadness find expression. Painting may reveal something words could not reach. A playful experience may remind us that we are more than the challenge we are currently facing.

The Joy Calendar is not about pretending that difficult emotions do not exist. It is about making sure they are not the only experiences receiving our time and attention.

Making Room for the Unexpected

As Laurin and I explored the Joy Calendar, we both discovered more than we expected. When joy receives priority, curiosity often returns. We may try something new, revisit an interest we had forgotten, reconnect with someone, or notice possibilities that were invisible when our attention was consumed by tasks.

A meaningful future is not created only through distant goals. It is formed through the small experiences we choose today. Each joyful appointment becomes a way of moving toward the life we want to inhabit.

A Summer Matcha Moment

This podcast was especially fun to record, and the featured tea added to the sense of summer possibility. Fill Yer Boots! is a Strawberry Matcha with Moringa and Canadian Maple Sugar—a playful blend for a season filled with colour, outdoor experiences, and opportunities to pause.

Strawberry invites sweetness, gratitude, and playfulness. Moringa symbolizes nourishment, vitality, and resilience. Canadian maple sugar brings the reminder that sweetness can emerge through patience, transformation, and deep roots. Matcha offers a vibrant ritual of presence and focused energy.

The affirmation for this blend is:

The heart of this matcha awakens our inner love and lets the sweetness of compassion flow freely to ourselves and others.

Enjoy it warm, over ice, or blended into a summer drink while you sit with your calendar and decide what joyful experience belongs there first.

Your First Joy Calendar Invitation

Before closing your calendar today, schedule three joyful moments for the coming week. Let them be simple. Let them be yours. Then observe what changes—not only in your schedule, but in your breathing, energy, emotions, relationships, and openness to new experiences.

Listen to Facing Dementia – Episode 9: The Joy Calendar: Living Toward What Matters Most to hear more of our conversation with Laurin Wittig and explore how meaningful daily choices can support purpose, resilience, and wellbeing.

Sometimes the most important appointment you make all week is the one you make with yourself.

What If Overwhelm Isn’t the Problem—But the Invitation?

There are seasons in life when the to-do list seems endless.

Tasks pile up. Decisions feel heavy. Motivation disappears. We label ourselves as procrastinators, tell ourselves we need to “push through,” and often judge our inability to simply get things done.

But what if overwhelm isn’t failure?

What if procrastination isn’t laziness?

What if both are actually signals—messages from the body, mind, and energetic systems inviting us to pause, listen, and shift perspective?

In our latest Facing Dementia podcast conversation, Dr. Michelle Greenwell and intuitive transformation mentor Laurin Wittig explored a refreshing and compassionate reframe around overwhelm, stress, and procrastination—one that opens the door to self-awareness, self-kindness, and greater alignment.

Audio Version

Overwhelm as a Signal, Not a Stop Sign

Modern life teaches us to interpret overwhelm as weakness.

If we feel stressed, anxious, frozen, or unable to act, the common response is to work harder, think harder, organize better, or discipline ourselves into productivity.

But from a BioEnergetic Wellness perspective, overwhelm is not simply a mental problem.

It is a whole-system response.

When stress builds:

the nervous system becomes dysregulated

emotional resilience decreases

the body’s energetic communication becomes disrupted

the mind starts looping in repetitive thought patterns

And once we are inside that stress loop, clear thinking becomes difficult.

This is where procrastination often begins—not because we lack discipline, but because the system no longer feels safe, resourced, or aligned enough to move forward.

This changes the question entirely.

Instead of asking:

“What’s wrong with me?”

We begin asking:

“What is my system trying to tell me?”

That subtle shift creates space for healing.

Reframing Stress as an Invitation

One of the most powerful moments in the conversation was the idea that stress signals are not interruptions—they are invitations.

An invitation to:

change perspective

reassess priorities

reconnect with intention

restore energetic flow

listen more deeply to our intuitive wisdom

Stress can become a messenger rather than an enemy.

This is especially meaningful for caregivers, those navigating health challenges, and anyone carrying emotional or cognitive load.

When we learn to pause and listen rather than resist, new possibilities emerge.

The Joy Calendar: Prioritizing What Nourishes You

One beautiful tool that emerged from this conversation was the creation of what we called the Joy Calendar.

Think about how most calendars are built.

Appointments.

Tasks.

Deadlines.

Responsibilities.

Obligations.

The things we have to do.

But how often do we intentionally schedule what nourishes us?

What if we built our calendar differently?

Instead of beginning with obligations, we begin with joy.

Schedule first:

your walk in nature

your tea ritual

time with loved ones

creative exploration

music

movement

meditation

quiet reflection

moments that help you feel like yourself again

Then build your responsibilities around those anchors.

This isn’t avoidance.

This is strategic nervous system support.

When joy becomes a priority, resilience grows.

And when resilience grows, capacity increases.

The Joy Calendar helps us remember that wellness is not something we squeeze in after everything else.

Wellness is what allows everything else to happen.

Are You Procrastinating… or Are You Waiting for Alignment?

This was another meaningful reframe.

What if procrastination is not procrastination?

What if some delays are actually intuitive intelligence?

There are moments when pushing through creates resistance, frustration, and exhaustion.

And there are moments when timing suddenly opens, energy shifts, clarity arrives, and the exact same task flows with surprising ease.

Through an energetic lens, timing matters.

Some actions are aligned.

Others require force.

This does not mean avoiding responsibility.

It means learning discernment.

Questions to consider:

Am I resisting because I’m afraid?

Am I depleted and needing restoration?

Is this actually the right time?

Am I missing information?

Does this task align with my bigger goal?

When we stop labeling ourselves negatively, we create space for curiosity.

Instead of:

“I’m terrible at getting things done.”

Try:

“My timing may need adjustment.”

Or:

“What would make this feel more aligned?”

That single shift changes internal dialogue from criticism to compassion.

And compassion creates movement.

Tea as a Ritual for Clarity and Forward Motion

Tea became an especially meaningful part of this episode.

At the Greenwell Center, tea is never just a beverage.

It is ritual.

Pause.

Presence.

Plant wisdom.

Energetic support.

For this episode, the featured tea was Mintal ClariTEA – from the Harmony Blend Series, and it could not have been more perfectly matched to the conversation.

This blend includes:

Peppermint

Peppermint is the herb of forward movement.

When we feel mentally stuck, emotionally stagnant, or trapped in repetitive thought patterns, peppermint helps shift energy.

It refreshes the mind, stimulates focus, and energetically encourages momentum.

Peppermint reminds us:

Movement is possible.

Calendula

Calendula offers clarity, healing, and gentle illumination.

It supports bringing awareness to what feels tangled or unclear and helps us soften our response to overwhelm.

Orange Flowers

Orange blossoms uplift the emotional body.

They encourage optimism, emotional lightness, and calm reassurance when stress feels heavy.

Together, this tea becomes a beautiful energetic metaphor: clarity + calm + movement.

Exactly what overwhelm asks us to restore.

A tea ritual can become a daily energetic reset:

Hold your cup.

Take a breath.

Set an intention.

Ask:

“What is one thing that will keep my energy flowing today?”

Not ten things.

Not the whole list.

Just one.

And begin there.

For Caregivers and Those Facing Cognitive Stress

The Facing Dementia podcast continues to offer more than information.

It offers perspective.

Compassion.

Practical tools.

And permission to approach life differently.

For caregivers especially, overwhelm can become normalized.

But normalized stress is still stress.

This episode reminds us:

You deserve regulation.

You deserve joy.

You deserve support.

And your signals matter.

Final Reflection

Overwhelm is not weakness.

Procrastination is not a character flaw.

Stress is not always the enemy.

Sometimes, these experiences are invitations.

Invitations to pause.

To breathe.

To restore balance.

To listen.

To reconnect with joy.

And perhaps most importantly, to trust that timing, when aligned with your goals and inner wisdom, can create far more ease than force ever could.

Listen to the Episode

At the Greenwell Center, we are proud to launch a new initiative in collaboration with intuitive artist and frequency guide Marian Egan: The Magnifying Peace Project

By Dr. Michelle Greenwell | Greenwell Center for Holistic Health

In a world of rapid change, unrelenting stress, and constant information overload, the idea of peace often feels distant—if not impossible. But what if peace wasn’t something we had to find “out there”? What if peace could begin within each of us, as a daily, intentional act?

This project invites each of us to step into a space of reflection, creativity, and connection, and to become active participants in cultivating peace—not only for ourselves but for our families, communities, and the planet. Read more about Peace and get the link to the podcast to learn more…

Are We at Peace?

Despite living in an era with more access to wellness tools than ever before, stress, anxiety, and emotional disconnection are rising.

According to the American Psychological Association’s Stress in America Survey (2023):

76% of adults reported experiencing health impacts from stress.

27% feel they lack emotional support.

More than 70% feel overwhelmed by global issues, including violence and climate change.

Similarly, a Gallup Global Emotions Report (2022) found that negative emotions have reached a record high worldwide, with rising rates of sadness, worry, and anger.

These statistics show a clear truth:
We are not at peace.
And yet, we are yearning for it.

Peace as a Practice, Not a Destination

The Magnifying Peace Project encourages a shift in perspective. Peace is not a passive state we wait to achieve—it’s an active frequency we choose and cultivate through:

Our thoughts

Our words

Our actions

Our wellness routines

Our creative expression

And most importantly, our relationship with ourselves

Through weekly prompts, creative invitations, tea rituals, and card decks, the project gently guides participants to explore what peace means to them—and how they can share that peace outwardly.

The Three Foundational Questions

In our special podcast episode launching the project, Marian and I explore three guiding questions:

What do we hope to achieve with this project, and how can people be involved?
→ Our aim is to build a global community of conscious peace-makers through small but powerful actions—like sharing a word of kindness, creating an art piece, or simply sipping tea with intention.

How are our messages of hope being created and shared over the next four months?
→ With guided content, frequency messages, and collaborative moments, we’ll nurture a sustained and supportive energy field where peace becomes a felt experience.

If people support this project, what might they cultivate within themselves?
→ Clarity, resilience, self-compassion, and a sense of purpose—these are the outcomes of choosing peace consistently and courageously.

A Moment of Tea: Supporting Peace in Body and Mind

Each month of the project features a tea blend to accompany the journey. For the launch, we’ve chosen The Autograph, part of the Natalie MacMaster Signature Collection from the Cape Breton Tea Company.

This blend includes:

Peppermint – Clears the mind, supports breath and digestion, encourages mental presence and focus.

Rose – Opens the heart, supports emotional release, and nurtures a deep sense of love and connection.

Intention: “What special gift can you share with the world?”

The simple act of brewing and sipping this tea becomes a ritual of grounding and reflection, allowing the limbic system to calm and the body’s motor system to soften into stillness. These moments, done regularly, create real, measurable shifts in brain-body balance.

Why Now? Because the World Needs Your Peace

With global conflict and climate crisis dominating the headlines, it’s easy to feel powerless. But real change starts at the energetic level—within.

When we each take action to magnify peace, we:

Raise our personal vibration

Influence the energy field of those around us

Create collective resonance for calm, creativity, and healing

It’s time to stop waiting for peace to come.
It’s time to become the peace we’re seeking.

Ready to Join Us?

Ainsley Hamill shares with us her time with her grandmother and how this has influenced her life and her song writing.

Exploring the Depth of Grief

An artist who moves people with their craft is such an inspiring and gifted way to live. How has Ainsley developed the depth to her music and to her way of living? Today we are going to be talking about the time Ainsley spent with her grandmother and the role that her family has had in her choices and way of living. As we talk about grief, and the process of moving through it, we expand to the connection of life that is created by our ability to love and to let go of our loved ones.

As you listen today, please be gentle with yourself, and consider the gifts of knowing and growing that our loved ones offer with their connection.

Have you got your cup of tea ready?

At the Cape Breton Tea Company our tea is created to provide transitional moments for people as they sip the tea. Grief can be supported by such herbs as lavender, chamomile, rose, valerian, lemon balm, motherwort, hawthorn. Our intention is important to how we want to transition ourselves into growth and inspiration because of our ability to love and be loved.

We chose our blend, from the Harmony Blends collection, Island VitaliTEA – “Be inspired by the power of nature that surrounds you, rest and release into healing.” This blend includes Green Tea, Echinacea, Apple, Strawberry, Blackberry and Holy Basil leaves, Rosehip, Hibiscus, Blue Pea Flower, Blue Cornflower petals, Chamomile, Hawthorn Fruit, Cranberry pieces, Honeybush, Rose and Safflower petals, Vanilla pieces and Natural Flavours. In this episode we highlight the essence of Chamomile, which supports the balance of Yin and Yang and is a lift for the heart chakra. “I release all fears and help others in need.”

Set your intention for this discussion

As we were thinking about this conversation, we were inspired by the idea that the grief of our experience with love moves us, and how do we move forward. We move forward by looking to help others as we work with our own grief.

Each episode of the Be Well with Dr. Michelle Greenwell podcast includes the BioEnergetic Wellness Formula. That means that you have the opportunity to have a healing session while you listen based on the way the content is laid out and the activities we participate in. Before listening you can create a goal or an intention of where you would like to be heading with an activity or in your life, then make your cup of tea, engage in the activities and celebrate at the end.
