What if you could understand the messages from your body about how you were doing? With Tai Chi we are able to hear the messages and support them. Our 108 Moving Meditation brings balance and flow to our body systems, calming the mind, deepening the breath, and bringing a sense of peace to our day. This is how living in a Blue Zone happens. Check it out.

In the study of longevity, the concept of the Blue Zones—regions of the world where people live longer, healthier lives—has captured global attention. What stands out in these communities is not just diet or genetics, but a way of living: a deep sense of purpose, daily movement, strong social connections, and a rhythm of life that supports balance in body, mind, and spirit.

These same principles are beautifully embodied in the practice of the 108 Moving Meditation in Tai Chi.

At first glance, 108 movements may seem overwhelming. Many people feel it is too complex, too long, or too difficult to learn. But what if it wasn’t 108 separate movements at all? What if it was simply one continuous flow?

Because that is exactly what it becomes.

And in that realization lies one of the most profound lessons for living well: when we find flow in our movement, we begin to find flow in our lives.

The BioEnergetic Wellness Formula in Motion

The 108 Moving Meditation mirrors the BioEnergetic Wellness Formula:

Intentions and goals for living

Awareness of our current state

Activation of energy toward our future

Connection with community

Growth of intuition through alignment

Each movement, each breath, each transition becomes a living expression of this formula. It is not something we think about—it is something we embody.

The Hidden Journey Within the 108

What many practitioners don’t initially realize is that the set unfolds in three powerful sections—each reflecting a phase of life: past, present, and future.

1. The First 17 Movements: Honouring the Past

This is where many begin—and where many find comfort.

The first 17 movements reveal how our past lives within us:

In our posture

In our flexibility

In our strength

In our patterns of movement

Here, energy pathways begin to open. The Bubbling Spring in the feet awakens, stimulating the kidney meridian and gently releasing fear and anxiety. Breath deepens, reminding us that we are naturally designed to breathe fully when stress is released. This can assist in releasing guilt, grief and regret.

Movements like Grasp the Bird’s Tail help us release stored emotional tension, while White Stork Spreads Wings invites us to rise above past limitations.

The hips open and close, nurturing the lower Dan Tien—our reservoir of vitality—teaching us to store energy rather than deplete it.

Even in the opening, we are introduced to fundamental energetic forces:

Expansion into possibility

Pausing for presence

Rolling back to release tension

Grounding into the earth

This section becomes a mirror: showing us where we have been, and how those experiences still live within our tissues and biofield.

2. The Middle Section: Awakening the Present

As we transition into the second phase, we enter a space of possibility.

Move Hands Like Clouds invites multidimensional awareness:

Up and down

Side to side

Forward and back

Our eyes scan the horizon, our nervous system awakens, and we begin to perceive the world more fully.

Here, purpose begins to emerge.

Push the Needle to Sea Bottom reminds us that we each carry gifts within us.
Fan Penetrates Back becomes the act of offering those gifts to the world.

This is the present moment—where we recognize our role, our potential, and our ability to contribute to the wellbeing of others.

3. The Final Section: Stepping Into the Future

In the final phase, we meet Fair Lady Works at Shuttles, a movement rich in symbolism.

Like the four legs of the turtle—often associated with the world itself—we move in four directions, expanding our perspective beyond ourselves. We begin to see our place in the greater whole.

In Canada, we often refer to our land as Turtle Island—a reminder that we are part of something much larger.

As we repeat Move Hands Like Clouds, we are invited once again to shift, adapt, and think differently. We release rigidity and open to multidimensional opportunities.

This is the future—not something fixed, but something we actively shape through awareness, intention, and movement.

From Movement to Longevity

The connection to Blue Zone living becomes clear.

The 108 Moving Meditation:

Keeps the body in gentle, consistent motion

Cultivates breath and reduces stress

Strengthens awareness and emotional balance

Encourages purpose and contribution

Builds connection—within ourselves and with others

It is not just exercise. It is a way of living.

Through this practice, we move:

Out of the past

Into the present

Toward a consciously created future

We begin to understand that longevity is not just about adding years to life—but adding life to our years.

The Journey Is the Reward

Every step, every movement, every breath is part of the journey.

And as beautifully expressed by the Wine Country Tai Chi Society:

“The journey is the reward.”

So as you reflect on your own path—your health, your purpose, your connection to the world—return to the movements.

Let them guide you.

Because within the flow of the 108, you may just discover the flow of your life.

Season 5 Finale – Be Well with Dr. Michelle Greenwell podcast

As we close out Season 5 of Be Well with Dr. Michelle Greenwell, we arrive at a powerful and deeply personal theme—the voice. Not just as a tool for communication, but as a pathway to healing, expression, and transformation.

In this final episode, we are honoured to welcome Karen Novy, a vocal empowerment coach, NLP practitioner, author, and workshop facilitator whose work centers on helping individuals reclaim their voice and step fully into their authentic selves.

Karen’s journey as a breast cancer survivor has shaped her understanding of healing in profound ways. Through her work, she reminds us that our voice is not something external to refine—it is something internal to rediscover. It carries our truth, our story, and our capacity to transform.

The Voice as Medicine

So many of us move through life with a quieted voice—held back by past experiences, self-doubt, or the fear of being seen and heard. Yet, when we begin to explore our voice—whether through sound, tone, or expression—something shifts.

The body softens.
The breath deepens.
The mind quiets.

And in that space, we begin to reconnect with who we truly are.

Karen speaks to the first moment someone discovers their authentic tone—a moment often filled with lightness, surprise, and even joy. It is as though something long hidden has finally been given permission to emerge.

Your voice is not just sound.
Your voice is your medicine.

A Tea to Awaken Memory and Expression

In this episode, we paired our conversation with Sweet Memories, a blend inspired by family, legacy, and love from Creignish, Nova Scotia and Peggy Burke at the Studio Store.

This special Cape Breton Tea Company blend, with the gentle sweetness of strawberry and the grounding richness of black tea, invites reflection and connection.

Strawberry, with its heart-centered energy, encourages compassion, emotional openness, and the sweetness of cherished memories.

Black tea offers grounding and strength, supporting clarity, courage, and the confidence to express one’s truth.

Together, they create a sensory experience that mirrors the journey of finding your voice—soft yet strong, reflective yet empowering.

An Invitation to Experience It for Yourself

This conversation doesn’t end with the episode—it continues in community.

We invite you to join us for the 2nd Annual Healing Through Music and Movement Event hosted by Marathon Jam:

April 18, 2026
FREE Event
Register here: https://www.marathonjam.org/htm

This immersive day is designed to support veterans, first responders, caregivers, professionals, and community members in exploring tools to release trauma and build resiliency.

Participants will have the opportunity to work with an incredible team of facilitators:

Karen Novy – Vocal exploration and authentic expression

Lynn Koonce – Music, Vocal and Creative healing practices

Matthew Seymour – Music and experiential engagement

Colin MacLeod – Music and connection

Michelle Greenwell – Movement, energy, and integrative wellness

Through music, movement, voice, and creative expression, you will be guided into a space of belonging—where healing can begin, and transformation can unfold. It is a true pleasure for Michelle to be working with such incredible NeuroArts specialists in their field.

The Power of Belonging

One of the most profound aspects of this work is the sense of community that emerges.

When we give ourselves permission to be heard, we also begin to hear others more deeply.
When we express, we connect.
When we connect, we heal.

Events like this remind us that we are not alone in our experiences—and that healing is not something we have to navigate in isolation.

Closing Season 5… Opening Season 6

As we close Season 5, we reflect on the many pathways to wellness we have explored—through movement, energy, nature, and now, the voice.

And as we step into Season 6, we carry forward a powerful reminder:

Your voice is a magical part of who you are.
To claim it, to explore it, and to enjoy its resonance… is a beautiful life journey.

Let this be your invitation—
To listen inward…
To express outward…
And to trust that your voice matters.

Be well, and we’ll see you in Season 6.

Tai Chi and Qi Gong are more than exercise—they are living examples of integration, balance, and embodied awareness. By participating, we strengthen the connection between mind, body, and energy, while fostering community and collective wellbeing.

A Collaborative Vision for Wellness

Through my work with CanBeWell, the Greenwell Center continues to foster collaboration across borders. Practitioners from Canada and beyond contribute to energy activation workshops, educational programming, and hands-on guidance, helping participants develop practices tailored to their unique needs. This network of colleagues enriches the community experience, ensuring that wellness is both personal and shared.

The collective aim is clear: to move from reactive care to proactive, daily support of our health and vitality. Whether through energy balancing exercises, mindful movement, or creative engagement, these tools help people regulate stress, restore energy, and cultivate resilience before challenges arise.

We’ve all heard the advice.

Go to bed at the same time.
Turn off your screens.
Drink a calming tea.

And yet… so many people are still lying awake at night, wondering why sleep won’t come.

The truth is, sleep isn’t something you can force with the right checklist.
Sleep is something the body allows—when the conditions are right.

Instead of asking, “What should I do before bed?”
A more powerful question is:
“What has my body experienced throughout the day that makes sleep possible?”

Here are five often-overlooked factors that influence whether your body can truly let go into rest.

1. Your Body Clock May Not Be Set—Even If You Think It Is

It’s not just about when you go to bed.
It’s about whether your internal rhythm is synchronized.

If your body hasn’t clearly registered:

when the day begins

when energy should rise

when it’s safe to slow down

…it won’t confidently move into sleep.

Many people live in blurred signals—indoor lighting, inconsistent exposure to daylight, irregular pacing of activity. We can reset the body clock with a simple ear rub while bringing awareness to the time of day. Rub your ear from the top to the bottom, three times on each ear. Notice the time on the clock. A great pick up in the middle of the day.

A gentle shift:
Let your body feel the day. Step outside early. Let natural light meet your eyes. Allow your system to register contrast—light and dark, movement and stillness.

Sleep improves when the body trusts the rhythm of the day.

2. Movement Isn’t About Exercise—It’s About Timing and Circulation

You can work out every day and still struggle with sleep.

Why?

Because the body doesn’t just need movement—it needs movement at the right times, in the right ways.

Too little movement → energy stagnates

Too much intensity late in the day → energy stays activated

What the body craves is circulation—energy moving through tissues, joints, breath, and fascia.

A gentle shift:
Ask not “Did I exercise?” but
“Did my energy move today?”

Small, frequent movement—especially throughout the day—helps the body complete its natural energy cycles so it doesn’t feel “unfinished” at night. This may be less than 40% effort, it may be just a few repetitions, and it may require a sprinkle through the day.

3. Organ Systems Carry the Load of Your Day

When one system in the body is overburdened, it doesn’t just affect digestion or circulation—it affects sleep.

A taxed nervous system keeps you alert

A strained digestive system can create nighttime discomfort

An overwhelmed liver (processing stress, hormones, or toxins) may contribute to waking between 1–3 AM

Shallow breathing may contribute to waking between 3 and 5 am.

In many traditional frameworks, each organ system has a rhythm—and when one is out of balance, it can pull energy away from rest.

A gentle shift:
Notice patterns:

When do you wake in the night?

When do you feel most depleted or wired?

How deep was your breath during the day? In the evening?

Did your diet contain green and colourful foods to support the liver?

These are not random—they are messages about where support is needed.

4. Thoughts Don’t Just Disappear—They Need Movement Too

Repetitive thinking isn’t just “in your head.”
It’s energy that hasn’t been processed.

If thoughts are not expressed, resolved, or moved during the day, they accumulate—and nighttime is when they surface.

This is why people often feel mentally “loud” when everything else is quiet.

A gentle shift:
Create micro-releases throughout the day:

Speak things out loud

Write a few unfiltered lines

Move your body when emotions rise

Think of it as digesting your thoughts in real time, rather than storing them for the night shift. Holding the fingertips lightly on the forehead, ESR’s (Emotional Stress Release Points), can help circulate the blood through the brain to help process those nagging thoughts.

5. Flow Matters: Water, Nutrients, and Subtle Environment

Sleep is deeply influenced by what is flowing—or not flowing—through your system.

Hydration:
It’s not just how much water you drink, but whether it’s moving.
Stagnation in the body can mirror stagnation in rest.

Nutrients:
Deficiencies in minerals like magnesium or imbalances in blood sugar can quietly disrupt sleep cycles.

Environmental Sensitivity:
Some individuals are more sensitive to subtle inputs—like electromagnetic fields (EMFs), artificial light, or ambient noise.
While not always obvious, these can keep the nervous system in a low-level state of alertness.

A gentle shift:
Support flow:

Sip water consistently rather than all at once

Notice how your body responds to foods, timing, and environment

Create a sleep space that feels clear, calm, and supportive

Remove the electronic devices from your bedroom and use a battery operated or winding alarm clock

The Deeper Truth: Sleep Is an Exhale of the Whole Day

When the body has:

received clear signals

moved its energy

processed its experiences

supported its systems

and allowed flow

…it doesn’t need to be told to sleep.

It naturally lets go.

A New Approach to Rest

Instead of building stricter routines or adding more to your evening…

What if the invitation was to live in a way that doesn’t need unwinding?

To:

move when energy asks to move

pause when something needs processing

nourish the body as it communicates

and allow rhythm to emerge rather than be forced

Sleep, then, becomes less of a nightly challenge…

…and more of a quiet return to balance.

Dr Michelle Greenwell, CIH BioEW, loves to share new ideas for a day full of vitality and a night of deep rest. On Friday, March 27 at 10:30 – 12:30 pm she will be doing a Sleep Deep Dive for participants wanting to explore more deeply new patterns for daytime support for sleep. The cost is $25 and you can join her at NSCC in Port Hawkesbury with the CORAH program. On Thursday, April 2 at 6:30 – 8 pm, Michelle will be in Baddeck at the Public Library providing an introductory session. Everyone is welcome.

Have you given yourself the space to pause, regroup, relax, and let go of your diagnosis or situation? The Illness Brain is something that can hold you in a pattern that continues to feed the situation. Join Laurin Wittig and Michelle Greenwell as they explore the power of vacation in this "Facing Dementia" podcast episode.

The post Illness Brain on Vacation: Reclaiming Calm, Clarity, and the Capacity to Heal first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.

In Episode 6 of Facing Dementia, Dr. Michelle Greenwell and Laurin Wittig explore a powerful and often overlooked aspect of healing: the need to step away from the constant mental focus on illness.

When we receive a diagnosis—or even anticipate one—the mind shifts. It becomes vigilant, analytical, and hyper-focused on doing everything “right.” We research, plan, track symptoms, and commit to protocols with diligence and care. While these actions come from a place of hope and responsibility, they can also create an unintended consequence: the rise of what we call the “Illness Brain.”

What Is the Illness Brain?

The Illness Brain is a pattern of thinking shaped by stress, fear, and the desire to regain control. It is characterized by:

Constant mental scanning for symptoms

Overanalyzing choices and outcomes

Feeling responsible for getting everything “perfect”

Difficulty relaxing or being present

A subtle (or not so subtle) identification with the diagnosis

From a scientific perspective, this makes sense. Chronic stress activates the brain’s threat detection systems—particularly the amygdala—and increases cortisol levels. Over time, this state reduces cognitive flexibility, narrows perspective, and keeps the nervous system in a loop of vigilance.

Ironically, the very effort to heal can keep the body in a state of stress, which is not conducive to healing at all.

Audio Version

When Doing Everything Right Becomes Too Much

One of the key insights from this episode is that in trying to do everything right, we can lose sight of something essential: healing requires calm.

When the mind is busy, the body cannot fully rest.
When the nervous system is activated, the body cannot fully repair.

Healing is not only about what we do—it is about the state we are in while doing it.

Laurin’s recent vacation offered a powerful contrast. Removed from daily routines, expectations, and constant mental processing, something shifted. The Illness Brain softened. The need to monitor and manage faded. In its place came presence, connection, and ease.

The Science of Stepping Away

Research on vacations and restorative breaks supports this experience. Time away from daily stressors has been shown to:

Lower cortisol levels

Improve heart rate variability (a marker of resilience)

Enhance mood and emotional regulation

Improve sleep quality

Increase cognitive flexibility and creativity

Nature immersion adds another layer of benefit. Being in natural environments reduces rumination—the repetitive thought patterns often associated with stress and anxiety—and supports parasympathetic (rest-and-repair) activation.

In simple terms:
When we step away, the brain recalibrates.

The Catch-22 of Healing

Another important theme explored in this episode is the idea that the same mindset that contributed to imbalance can also influence how we try to heal.

If patterns of overthinking, stress, perfectionism, or disconnection played a role in the development of illness, those same patterns may show up in the healing journey.

This creates a kind of catch-22:

We want to make the “right” choices

But the mind making those choices is still operating from old patterns

Sometimes this shows up as resistance. We may feel that something “doesn’t resonate” or “isn’t right,” and choose not to engage. But what if that resistance is not wisdom—but familiarity?

The Illness Brain often prefers the known, even if the known contributed to imbalance.

This is where healing asks something different of us.

Creating Space for Change

Rather than forcing ourselves into new practices or overwhelming change, the invitation is to begin with something simpler:

Create space.

Space in the mind.
Space in the body.
Space in the nervous system.

When we calm the internal environment, we become more open. New ideas feel less threatening. Experiences that once felt difficult or unfamiliar become approachable.

This is where true transformation begins—not through force, but through readiness.

Returning to Yourself

At its core, this episode is not just about taking a vacation. It is about remembering who you are beyond the diagnosis.

You are not only a patient, a caregiver, or a person navigating uncertainty.
You are still someone who can laugh, connect, explore, and feel joy.

The Illness Brain narrows identity.
Presence expands it.

A Gentle Practice to Take Forward

As you return to your daily life, consider this:

Pause for a moment.
Take a breath.
Recall a time when you felt calm, connected, and fully yourself.

Let that feeling settle into your body.

This is not escape.
This is access.

Access to a state where healing becomes possible—not through effort alone, but through ease, awareness, and being.

You are not your diagnosis.
You are a whole person, capable of healing, growth, and living fully—one breath, one moment, one choice at a time.

The post Illness Brain on Vacation: Reclaiming Calm, Clarity, and the Capacity to Heal first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.

There is a quiet symphony within each of us—one that is always playing, always responding, always listening.

This weekend, in our upcoming Sound Workshop, Ann-Marie Boudreau and I invite you to explore a profound truth: your body is an instrument, and your spine is its central channel of resonance.

The Spine as a Living Frequency Pathway

Often, we think of the spine as a structural support—a column that holds us upright. But it is so much more.

Each vertebra carries its own energetic signature, its own vibrational quality. Together, they form a dynamic pathway through which information, energy, and sound travel. When the spine is aligned and supported, this pathway becomes clear and receptive. When restricted, compressed, or held in tension, the body’s natural resonance becomes muted.

Just like a musical instrument, the body requires space to create sound.

Posture: The Gateway to Resonance

Posture is not about rigidity or perfection—it is about availability.

When we bring awareness to how we sit, stand, and move, we begin to create subtle openings within the body:

Space between the vertebrae

Freedom within the ribcage

Ease in the diaphragm

Fluidity through the fascia

These openings allow sound to travel more freely—not only externally, but internally.

With supportive posture, sound doesn’t just pass through us… it lands, it vibrates, it awakens.

Breath: Creating Space for Sound

Breath is the bridge between structure and vibration.

When we breathe deeply and consciously, we create expansion:

The lungs fill and lift

The ribs widen

The spine subtly elongates

The internal environment becomes more spacious

This spaciousness is essential for resonance. Without it, sound has nowhere to go.

As we deepen our breath, we invite sound to move into the body more fully—touching tissues, organs, and energetic pathways.

Sound as an Internal Healing Force

Sound is not just something we hear—it is something we feel.

Every tone, every frequency interacts with the body’s internal landscape. When posture and breath are aligned, sound can:

Stimulate circulation and fluid movement

Support nervous system regulation

Activate cellular communication

Encourage emotional release

Restore a sense of harmony and coherence

In this way, sound becomes a partner in healing—working from the inside out.

Raising Frequency, Receiving Healing

In our workshop, we will explore both sides of the vibrational equation:

How to raise your internal frequency through posture, breath, and awareness

How to receive healing frequencies through sound, allowing them to resonate deeply within the body

This is not about forcing change. It is about creating the conditions for the body to remember its natural state of vitality, flow, and love.

An Invitation to Listen Within

When we create space in the spine, breathe with intention, and allow sound to move through us, something extraordinary happens:

We begin to hear ourselves more clearly.

Not just physically—but energetically, emotionally, and intuitively.

The body becomes a place of listening.
A place of connection.
A place of resonance.

And from that resonance, healing unfolds.

At the Greenwell Center for Holistic Health, we believe that healing is not only possible—it is experiential, creative, and deeply rooted in connection. This belief comes to life once again as Marathon Jam hosts the 2nd Annual Healing Through Music and Movement Event, a powerful, interactive day designed to support veterans, first responders, healthcare professionals, caregivers, and anyone seeking meaningful tools for self-care and resilience.

Following a remarkable inaugural year, hosted by Stonefield Cellars Winery in Stokesdale, NC, this program was honoured with a Legacy Leader Award in 2025 through CanBeWell.org, recognizing its impact in bridging science, creativity, and community wellness. This year, the experience expands even further—offering participants new ways to explore healing through sound, movement, and artistic expression. Take a look at our video from last year!

Expanding the Experience: What’s New in 2026

This year’s event introduces exciting new elements designed to deepen the healing journey:

Instrument Exploration Program: Participants will engage directly with sound, discovering how rhythm, vibration, and tone can support emotional release and nervous system regulation.

Additional Facilitators: Bringing new perspective and expertise to broaden the learning experience.

NeuroArt Station: A creative space where participants can explore the intersection of art and neuroscience—translating internal experiences into visual expression to support integration and insight.

These additions reflect a growing understanding: healing is multi-sensory, and when we engage the body, mind, and creative spirit together, transformation becomes more accessible.

The Heart of the Program: A Signature Formula for Healing

At the core of this event is a thoughtfully designed experiential framework developed by Dr Michelle Greenwell, CIH BioEW, Colin MacLeod, and Tanya Levy, MSW.

This signature program weaves a formula through the day that inspires letting go, walking forward, and finding balance and flow. Each activity and the overall organization of the day, plus the “right” cup of tea, guides participants through a carefully curated sequence of music, movement, and reflective practices that support:

Awareness of the body’s response to stress and trauma

Gentle unwinding of held tension patterns

Re-patterning through rhythm, breath, and intentional movement

Integration through creative and sensory-based practices

This “formula building” approach empowers participants not only to experience healing in the moment, but to leave with tools they can apply in everyday life.

Continuing the Conversation: Podcast Connections

The impact of this work extends beyond the event itself. Several of last year’s facilitators and themes have been featured on the “Be Well with Dr. Michelle Greenwell” podcast, offering deeper insights into the science and stories behind the practices shared.

These episodes serve as a bridge—allowing listeners to revisit key concepts, explore personal journeys, and integrate learning at their own pace.

As the program grows, new podcast interviews are on the horizon, highlighting the voices and expertise of the additional facilitators joining this year’s event – Karen Novy and Matthew Seymour. These conversations will continue to expand our understanding of trauma recovery, resilience, and the role of creative expression in healing.

A Community of Healing and Possibility

What makes this event truly special is the community it creates. Participants are not just attendees—they are active contributors to a shared space of exploration, support, and transformation.

Whether you are navigating the effects of stress, supporting others in demanding roles, or simply seeking a deeper connection to your own well-being, this day offers an invitation:

To listen.
To move.
To create.
To heal.

At the Greenwell Center, we are honoured to support and celebrate initiatives like this—where innovation meets compassion, and where healing becomes a collective journey.

Our Cape Breton Tea Company tea highlighted The Autograph, Kitchen Party and Fit as a Fiddle. This year we will be highlighting a few signature blends. Stay tuned to learn more in the coming weeks.

Stay tuned for more updates, facilitator highlights, and podcast releases as we prepare for another inspiring event of Healing Through Music and Movement – Saturday, April 18th.

Did you know that the separation of mind and body for healing was a political decision dating back to Descartes? What happens if we break the ideas of separation and become holistic beings once again? Stay tuned for World Tai Chi and Qi Gong Day plans, and enjoy the special resource shared in the blog.

The post Reuniting the Body and Mind: A Greenwell Perspective on Innate Healing and Wholeness first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.

At the Greenwell Center for Holistic Health, we believe that wellness is not something we chase—it is something we remember.

Yet for centuries, much of our understanding of health has been shaped by a fundamental separation: the idea that the mind and body operate independently. This perspective has influenced not only medicine, but how we experience ourselves—often leading us to feel fragmented, disconnected, and dependent on external solutions for internal imbalances.

It is time to return to wholeness.

The Legacy of Separation

The evolution of modern healthcare has been deeply influenced by the concept of mind-body separation—an approach that allowed science to advance in remarkable ways, particularly in acute care, diagnostics, and surgical intervention.

However, as highlighted in the video resource above, this model also created a system where:

The body is treated as a collection of parts

The mind is addressed separately—or sometimes overlooked

Healing is often viewed as something delivered from the outside

While this model has value, it is incomplete.

Because we are not separate systems.

We are integrated, dynamic, and responsive beings.

As we prepare for World Tai Chi and Qi Gong Day on Sat April 25, Bill Douglas and his team are ramping up the science and resources for people to gain a better understanding of how an ancient art and tradition can bring harmony to the body and its healing potential. Check out this video resource of how the science evolved and what that has meant for our wellbeing.

The Greenwell Model: Integration Over Isolation

At the Greenwell Center, we embrace a bioenergetic wellness model—one that recognizes the continuous interaction between body, mind, emotion, and energy.

In this model:

Thoughts influence physiology

Emotions shape movement and posture

Movement transforms internal states

Energy flow reflects overall balance

Rather than asking, “What is wrong?” we ask,
“Where is the imbalance, and how can we support the body in restoring harmony?”

This shift changes everything.

Innate Healing: The Wisdom Within

Healing is not something that needs to be installed into the body.

It already exists.

The human system is designed for self-regulation, adaptation, and renewal. What we often need is not more intervention—but better conditions for that innate healing capacity to emerge.

These conditions include:

Deep relaxation to regulate the nervous system

Breath awareness to harmonize internal rhythms

Gentle, intentional movement to restore flow

Creative expression to process and release emotional energy

When we engage these elements, we are not “fixing” the body—we are supporting it in doing what it naturally does best.

Practices That Reconnect Us

At the heart of the Greenwell approach are practices that reunite the body and mind through experience.

In Tai Chi, we cultivate awareness through slow, intentional movement, allowing the nervous system to settle and the body to reorganize itself with greater ease and efficiency. (Tai Chi Cape Breton’s schedule is on the calendar).

Tai Chi Resources

Through Touch for Health, we explore the language of the body—understanding how muscles, meridians, and emotions interact to reveal patterns of imbalance and pathways to restore vitality.

Together, these practices:

Encourage self-awareness and participation

Support circulation, lymphatic flow, and joint health

Provide tools for daily self-care

Empower individuals to become active partners in their wellness

Beyond Treatment: A New Experience of Wellbeing

Modern medicine excels in crisis and acute care—but long-term wellbeing requires something more.

It requires:

Engagement instead of passivity

Awareness instead of avoidance

Connection instead of separation

This is where programs like Symphony of Radiance come alive within the Greenwell vision.

Symphony of Radiance: Experiencing Integration

Symphony of Radiance is an art-filled wellness journey designed to bring the body and mind back into relationship through movement, music, and creative expression.

As an evergreen program, it allows participants to:

Engage at their own pace

Revisit lessons and deepen their experience over time

Explore different aspects of healing as their needs evolve

Each experience becomes an opportunity to:

Release tension

Restore balance

Reconnect with inner rhythm

Express what words alone cannot capture

This is not a program to complete—it is a practice to return to.

Again and again.

A Shift in Perspective

To truly evolve our healthcare system, we must also evolve how we see ourselves.

We are not problems to be solved.
We are systems to be supported.

We are not passive recipients of care.
We are active participants in our own wellbeing.

When we begin to integrate relaxation, meditation, movement, and creative exploration into our daily lives, we are not stepping away from science—we are expanding it.

We are bringing the human experience back into healthcare.

Returning to Wholeness

The separation of mind and body may have shaped the past—but it does not need to define the future.

At the Greenwell Center for Holistic Health, we are committed to a model of care that:

Honours the intelligence of the body

Supports the integration of all systems

Empowers individuals through knowledge and experience

Creates space for healing to emerge naturally

Because at the center of it all is a simple truth:

You are not separate.
You are not broken.
You are whole.

And within that wholeness lies your greatest capacity for healing.

What if menopause wasn’t a problem to fix—but a transformation to embrace? Instead of labeling women’s hormonal changes as disease, we can begin to see them as powerful shifts that require new rhythms of care. With tools like Tai Chi, Touch for Health, and the Symphony of Radiance experience, women are reclaiming balance, confidence, and vitality—on their own terms.

There is a quiet but powerful shift happening in how women are beginning to understand their bodies—especially through the phases of peri-menopause, menopause, and post-menopause. For too long, these natural transitions have been framed within a medical model that labels them as problems to be managed, symptoms to be treated, or conditions to be monitored.

But what if this perspective is incomplete?

What if these phases are not signs of decline—but invitations for transformation?

Reframing the Narrative: From Disease to Life Cycle

A woman’s body is not breaking down as she ages—it is evolving.

Hormonal changes that occur during peri-menopause, menopause, and post-menopause are not diseases. They are part of a sophisticated, intelligent life cycle that calls for new rhythms, new awareness, and new forms of self-care. Yet, many women are led to believe that discomfort, fatigue, weight changes, joint pain, or emotional fluctuations are indicators of dysfunction requiring medical correction.

This perspective often leads to over-diagnosis—conditions such as arthritis or lymphedema may be named and treated without addressing the deeper truth: the body is asking for balance, not intervention.

When we shift from a pathology-based model to a wellness-based model, something extraordinary happens. Women begin to listen instead of fear. They begin to adapt instead of resist.

The Language of Balance

In holistic traditions, including Touch for Health and Tai Chi, the body is understood as an interconnected system of energy, structure, and emotion. When hormones shift, the entire system recalibrates. If we do not adjust our habits, movement patterns, nutrition, and emotional expression, imbalance can occur.

But imbalance is not illness.

It is information.

Touch for Health provides a framework to understand these imbalances through muscle monitoring, meridian relationships, and the connection between emotions and physical vitality. It empowers women to participate in their own healing process—to recognize where energy is blocked or depleted and to use simple techniques to restore flow.

Tai Chi complements this beautifully.

Join our next Touch for Health Level 1 class

The Power of Tai Chi: Moving with Change

Tai Chi is not just exercise—it is a moving meditation that teaches us how to adapt, soften, and respond to change with grace.

During the phases of hormonal transition, Tai Chi offers:

Gentle, joint-supportive movement that enhances circulation and lymphatic flow

Breath awareness that calms the nervous system and reduces stress hormones

Improved balance and coordination, reducing risk of injury

A deepened internal awareness that helps women “listen” to their bodies

Rather than pushing through fatigue or forcing intensity, Tai Chi invites a different approach—one of harmony, presence, and alignment with the body’s current state.

This is especially important during menopause and beyond, when the body thrives on consistency, fluidity, and mindful engagement rather than strain.

Symphony of Radiance: An Art-Filled Path to Wellness

Sign up for the Evergreen Program

Healing is not only physical—it is emotional, creative, and expressive.

The Symphony of Radiance program was designed to meet women exactly where they are in their journey and guide them through transformation using movement, music, and art. It is an immersive wellness experience that recognizes that balance is not achieved through effort alone, but through expression, connection, and joy.

Within this program, women:

Explore movement as a form of self-discovery and release

Engage with music to shift emotional states and restore inner harmony

Use artistic expression to process change and reconnect with identity

Experience the integration of body, mind, and spirit in a supportive community

This is not about fixing what is “wrong.” It is about illuminating what is already within—your radiance, your rhythm, your resilience.

Weekly Practices: Creating Sustainable Self-Care

Transformation does not happen in a single moment—it is cultivated through consistent, supportive practices.

Find Tai Chi Cape Breton on our calendar and join a class today!

Through specialized weekly programs, Tai Chi Cape Breton offers women the opportunity to integrate movement-based self-care into their daily lives. These programs provide:

Structured yet adaptable routines

Options for seated and standing practice to meet varying energy levels

A community of like-minded individuals navigating similar life transitions

Ongoing guidance in developing internal awareness and strength

These practices help women build a relationship with their bodies that is rooted in trust rather than fear.

You Are Not Broken

It is time to release the narrative that aging is a process of decline.

You are not broken.
You are not diseased.
You are not “less than” because your body is changing.

You are moving through a powerful life phase that requires new tools, new understanding, and new forms of care.

When women are given the knowledge and resources to support themselves—through movement, energy awareness, creativity, and community—they do not just manage symptoms.

They thrive.

A Call to Reclaim Your Wellness

Let us begin to see these phases not as medical events, but as milestones of wisdom.

Let us move, create, and connect in ways that honour the body’s intelligence.

Let us replace fear with empowerment.

And let us remember: balance is not something prescribed—it is something we cultivate.

For the second year in a row, the Greenwell Center for Holistic Health is proud to participate in Podcasthon, a global movement where podcasters dedicate episodes to sharing the stories and missions of nonprofit organizations making a difference in the world.

This year, our podcast episode highlights the work of the Canadian Association of BioEnergetic Wellness and shines a special spotlight on CanBeWell.org, an initiative devoted to empowering individuals with practical tools, education, and community support for their wellness journey.

A Journey of Service and Leadership

My involvement with the Canadian Association of BioEnergetic Wellness spans several decades, reflecting a deep commitment to advancing wellness education and helping people discover their own innate healing potential. Since 2020, I have had the privilege of serving as President of the Association, helping guide its vision of making bioenergetic wellness education accessible to both facilitators and the public.

Joining me in this journey is Natascha Polomski, who has served as Treasurer and Bookkeeper since 2020. Her dedication and thoughtful stewardship help ensure that the organization can continue to grow, develop programs, and support the communities we serve.

In our Podcasthon conversation, Natascha and I share the story of the Association’s growth, the volunteers who sustain it, and the many initiatives designed to bring wellness education to people seeking a deeper understanding of their health.

Highlighting CanBeWell.org

This year’s Podcasthon episode highlights CanBeWell.org, a platform created to bring together wellness resources, courses, and community opportunities.

CanBeWell.org is designed as a gateway for people who want to become more engaged in their own wellbeing. Through the site, individuals can explore:

Wellness plans designed to support self-awareness and healthy lifestyle practices

Courses that introduce energy-based approaches to wellbeing

Events and community conversations that encourage learning and connection

Opportunities to support wellness education through donations

Support for this initiative helps expand programs that increase mental health awareness, stress reduction, overall wellbeing, and provide skills-based training in areas such as muscle monitoring and biofeedback, empowering individuals with practical tools to understand their body’s responses and support balanced wellbeing.

Strength Through Collaboration

The Canadian Association of BioEnergetic Wellness does not work alone. Our mission is strengthened through collaborations with organizations dedicated to advancing education, research, and awareness in energy-based wellness practices.

These valued partners include:

Atlantic Therapeutic Touch Network – an organization supporting the practice and education of Therapeutic Touch across the Maritime Provinces of Canada

Therapeutic Touch Network of Canada – advancing Therapeutic Touch nationally through training and professional development, and internationally with TTIA

Muscle Tuners International – supporting the practice and research of muscle monitoring techniques and muscle strength and endurance

Natural BioEnergetics – promoting awareness of bioenergetic principles in health and wellbeing

Brain Gym Canada – offering educational movement practices that support learning and cognitive function

In fact, Natascha also shares a podcast highlighting the work of the Atlantic Therapeutic Touch Network, demonstrating how these organizations are interconnected in their commitment to helping people discover practical ways to support their health.

A Cup of Playtime Tea

Every episode of the podcast includes a tea ritual, and this Podcasthon episode features Playtime Tea from the Cape Breton Tea Company.

With notes of Chocolate, Peppermint, and delicate Apple blossom, this blend invites us to reconnect with curiosity, creativity, and joy.

The spirit of play is an important reminder that wellness does not have to feel heavy or complicated. Sometimes the most powerful shifts occur when we allow ourselves to relax, explore, and approach life with openness.

A warm cup of tea can become a ritual of pause—an invitation to reflect on how we care for ourselves and how we engage with the world around us.

Engaging in Wellness Rather Than Dis-Ease

One of the central ideas explored in our Podcasthon conversation is the difference between engaging with wellness and engaging with dis-ease.

When people become focused only on illness, symptoms, or fear, their journey can feel disempowering. Health becomes something that happens to them rather than something they can actively participate in.

Bioenergetic wellness invites a different perspective.

It encourages individuals to become curious about their bodies, their emotions, and their energy patterns. Through practices such as movement, breath, energy awareness, muscle monitoring, and biofeedback, individuals can begin to understand the subtle ways their bodies communicate.

This shift—from fear to curiosity—opens the door to personal empowerment.

Instead of asking, “What is wrong with me?” we begin asking,
“What is my body telling me, and how can I support balance and harmony?”

This mindset transforms the wellness journey from one of limitation to one of possibility.

Supporting the Mission

The work of the Canadian Association of BioEnergetic Wellness and CanBeWell.org is driven by volunteers, educators, and practitioners who believe that wellness education should be accessible to everyone.

If this mission resonates with you, there are several ways to become involved:

Explore wellness resources, courses, and events through CanBeWell.org

Share the podcast and wellness resources with others

Participate in community conversations and learning opportunities

Consider making a donation to support mental health awareness and wellness education initiatives

Every conversation, every course, and every act of support helps expand access to tools that empower individuals to care for their health with greater awareness and confidence.

Wellness begins with awareness.

Empowerment grows through education and community.

Through Podcasthon, we are reminded that when people come together with a shared purpose—to support wellbeing, understanding, and compassion—small actions can ripple outward to create meaningful change.

And sometimes, that conversation begins with a cup of tea and a willingness to explore the possibilities within our own wellness journey.

The post Podcasthon 2026: Amplifying Wellness Through Community first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.
