Season 5 Finale – Be Well with Dr. Michelle Greenwell podcast

As we close out Season 5 of Be Well with Dr. Michelle Greenwell, we arrive at a powerful and deeply personal theme—the voice. Not just as a tool for communication, but as a pathway to healing, expression, and transformation.

In this final episode, we are honoured to welcome Karen Novy, a vocal empowerment coach, NLP practitioner, author, and workshop facilitator whose work centers on helping individuals reclaim their voice and step fully into their authentic selves.

Karen’s journey as a breast cancer survivor has shaped her understanding of healing in profound ways. Through her work, she reminds us that our voice is not something external to refine—it is something internal to rediscover. It carries our truth, our story, and our capacity to transform.

The Voice as Medicine

So many of us move through life with a quieted voice—held back by past experiences, self-doubt, or the fear of being seen and heard. Yet, when we begin to explore our voice—whether through sound, tone, or expression—something shifts.

The body softens.
The breath deepens.
The mind quiets.

And in that space, we begin to reconnect with who we truly are.

Karen speaks to the first moment someone discovers their authentic tone—a moment often filled with lightness, surprise, and even joy. It is as though something long hidden has finally been given permission to emerge.

Your voice is not just sound.
Your voice is your medicine.

A Tea to Awaken Memory and Expression

In this episode, we paired our conversation with Sweet Memories, a blend inspired by family, legacy, and love from Creignish, Nova Scotia and Peggy Burke at the Studio Store.

This special Cape Breton Tea Company blend, with the gentle sweetness of strawberry and the grounding richness of black tea, invites reflection and connection.

Strawberry, with its heart-centered energy, encourages compassion, emotional openness, and the sweetness of cherished memories.

Black tea offers grounding and strength, supporting clarity, courage, and the confidence to express one’s truth.

Together, they create a sensory experience that mirrors the journey of finding your voice—soft yet strong, reflective yet empowering.

An Invitation to Experience It for Yourself

This conversation doesn’t end with the episode—it continues in community.

We invite you to join us for the 2nd Annual Healing Through Music and Movement Event hosted by Marathon Jam:

April 18, 2026
FREE Event
Register here: https://www.marathonjam.org/htm

This immersive day is designed to support veterans, first responders, caregivers, professionals, and community members in exploring tools to release trauma and build resiliency.

Participants will have the opportunity to work with an incredible team of facilitators:

Karen Novy – Vocal exploration and authentic expression

Lynn Koonce – Music, Vocal and Creative healing practices

Matthew Seymour – Music and experiential engagement

Colin MacLeod – Music and connection

Michelle Greenwell – Movement, energy, and integrative wellness

Through music, movement, voice, and creative expression, you will be guided into a space of belonging—where healing can begin, and transformation can unfold. It is a true pleasure for Michelle to be working with such incredible NeuroArts specialists in their field.

The Power of Belonging

One of the most profound aspects of this work is the sense of community that emerges.

When we give ourselves permission to be heard, we also begin to hear others more deeply.
When we express, we connect.
When we connect, we heal.

Events like this remind us that we are not alone in our experiences—and that healing is not something we have to navigate in isolation.

Continue the Journey

Closing Season 5… Opening Season 6

As we close Season 5, we reflect on the many pathways to wellness we have explored—through movement, energy, nature, and now, the voice.

And as we step into Season 6, we carry forward a powerful reminder:

Your voice is a magical part of who you are.
To claim it, to explore it, and to enjoy its resonance… is a beautiful life journey.

Let this be your invitation—
To listen inward…
To express outward…
And to trust that your voice matters.

Be well, and we’ll see you in Season 6.

For the second year in a row, the Greenwell Center for Holistic Health is proud to participate in Podcasthon, a global movement where podcasters dedicate episodes to sharing the stories and missions of nonprofit organizations making a difference in the world.

This year, our podcast episode highlights the work of the Canadian Association of BioEnergetic Wellness and shines a special spotlight on CanBeWell.org, an initiative devoted to empowering individuals with practical tools, education, and community support for their wellness journey.

A Journey of Service and Leadership

My involvement with the Canadian Association of BioEnergetic Wellness spans several decades, reflecting a deep commitment to advancing wellness education and helping people discover their own innate healing potential. Since 2020, I have had the privilege of serving as President of the Association, helping guide its vision of making bioenergetic wellness education accessible to both facilitators and the public.

Joining me in this journey is Natascha Polomski, who has served as Treasurer and Bookkeeper since 2020. Her dedication and thoughtful stewardship help ensure that the organization can continue to grow, develop programs, and support the communities we serve.

In our Podcasthon conversation, Natascha and I share the story of the Association’s growth, the volunteers who sustain it, and the many initiatives designed to bring wellness education to people seeking a deeper understanding of their health.

Highlighting CanBeWell.org

This year’s Podcasthon episode highlights CanBeWell.org, a platform created to bring together wellness resources, courses, and community opportunities.

CanBeWell.org is designed as a gateway for people who want to become more engaged in their own wellbeing. Through the site, individuals can explore:

Wellness plans designed to support self-awareness and healthy lifestyle practices

Courses that introduce energy-based approaches to wellbeing

Events and community conversations that encourage learning and connection

Opportunities to support wellness education through donations

Support for this initiative helps expand programs that increase mental health awareness, stress reduction, overall wellbeing, and provide skills-based training in areas such as muscle monitoring and biofeedback, empowering individuals with practical tools to understand their body’s responses and support balanced wellbeing.

Strength Through Collaboration

The Canadian Association of BioEnergetic Wellness does not work alone. Our mission is strengthened through collaborations with organizations dedicated to advancing education, research, and awareness in energy-based wellness practices.

These valued partners include:

Atlantic Therapeutic Touch Network – an organization supporting the practice and education of Therapeutic Touch across the Maritime Provinces of Canada

Therapeutic Touch Network of Canada – advancing Therapeutic Touch nationally through training and professional development, and internationally with TTIA

Muscle Tuners International – supporting the practice and research of muscle monitoring techniques and muscle strength and endurance

Natural BioEnergetics – promoting awareness of bioenergetic principles in health and wellbeing

Brain Gym Canada – offering educational movement practices that support learning and cognitive function

In fact, Natascha also shares a podcast highlighting the work of the Atlantic Therapeutic Touch Network, demonstrating how these organizations are interconnected in their commitment to helping people discover practical ways to support their health.

A Cup of Playtime Tea

Every episode of the podcast includes a tea ritual, and this Podcasthon episode features Playtime Tea from the Cape Breton Tea Company.

With notes of Chocolate, Peppermint, and delicate Apple blossom, this blend invites us to reconnect with curiosity, creativity, and joy.

The spirit of play is an important reminder that wellness does not have to feel heavy or complicated. Sometimes the most powerful shifts occur when we allow ourselves to relax, explore, and approach life with openness.

A warm cup of tea can become a ritual of pause—an invitation to reflect on how we care for ourselves and how we engage with the world around us.

Engaging in Wellness Rather Than Dis-Ease

One of the central ideas explored in our Podcasthon conversation is the difference between engaging with wellness and engaging with dis-ease.

When people become focused only on illness, symptoms, or fear, their journey can feel disempowering. Health becomes something that happens to them rather than something they can actively participate in.

Bioenergetic wellness invites a different perspective.

It encourages individuals to become curious about their bodies, their emotions, and their energy patterns. Through practices such as movement, breath, energy awareness, muscle monitoring, and biofeedback, individuals can begin to understand the subtle ways their bodies communicate.

This shift—from fear to curiosity—opens the door to personal empowerment.

Instead of asking, “What is wrong with me?” we begin asking,
“What is my body telling me, and how can I support balance and harmony?”

This mindset transforms the wellness journey from one of limitation to one of possibility.

Supporting the Mission

The work of the Canadian Association of BioEnergetic Wellness and CanBeWell.org is driven by volunteers, educators, and practitioners who believe that wellness education should be accessible to everyone.

If this mission resonates with you, there are several ways to become involved:

Explore wellness resources, courses, and events through CanBeWell.org

Share the podcast and wellness resources with others

Participate in community conversations and learning opportunities

Consider making a donation to support mental health awareness and wellness education initiatives

Every conversation, every course, and every act of support helps expand access to tools that empower individuals to care for their health with greater awareness and confidence.

Wellness begins with awareness.

Empowerment grows through education and community.

Through Podcasthon, we are reminded that when people come together with a shared purpose—to support wellbeing, understanding, and compassion—small actions can ripple outward to create meaningful change.

And sometimes, that conversation begins with a cup of tea and a willingness to explore the possibilities within our own wellness journey.

The post Podcasthon 2026: Amplifying Wellness Through Community first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.

A Conversation with Christine Ruch on Regulation, Resilience, and the Art of Healing

In our recent podcast episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Christine Ruch about one of the most essential — and often overlooked — systems in the body: the nervous system.

In today’s world, many of us are operating in a constant state of subtle activation. We may not identify as “stressed,” yet our sleep is disrupted, our digestion fluctuates, our muscles hold tension, and our thoughts race. These are not random experiences. They are clues.

The nervous system is always communicating.

The question is — are we listening?

Why the Nervous System Matters

The nervous system is the master communication network of the body. It regulates:

Heart rate

Breathing patterns

Digestion

Hormone release

Immune function

Emotional processing

Focus and cognition

When the nervous system feels safe, we experience clarity, creativity, connection, and energy. When it feels threatened — even subtly — the body shifts into survival patterns.

Chronic low-level stress activates the sympathetic branch (fight or flight). Over time, this can lead to:

Muscle tightness and postural bracing

Digestive imbalance

Shallow breathing

Heightened anxiety or irritability

Fatigue from constant internal vigilance

True healing does not begin with pushing harder.
It begins with calming and nurturing the nervous system.

The Body Speaks in Sensations

In my conversation with Christine Ruch, we explored how the body continuously provides feedback:

A tight jaw may signal unspoken tension.

A collapsed posture may reflect emotional heaviness.

Digestive discomfort may reveal unresolved stress.

Restlessness may indicate nervous system dysregulation.

These are not inconveniences to ignore — they are invitations to awareness.

Modern neuroscience confirms what somatic traditions have long understood: the body stores and expresses emotional experience. When we pause and notice sensation — rather than override it — we begin to restore communication between brain and body.

This awareness builds interoception: the ability to sense and interpret internal body signals. Research shows that improved interoception supports emotional regulation, resilience, and better decision-making.

Listening is a skill. And like all skills, it can be cultivated.

To learn more about Christine Ruch and her work, please visit:

https://www.christineruch.com

Regulation Before Resolution

A powerful insight from the episode is this: we cannot cognitively solve what the nervous system has not yet regulated.

When the body is dysregulated, higher brain functions — including problem-solving and reflection — are diminished. This is why calming practices are not indulgences. They are prerequisites for growth.

Regulation practices may include:

Breathwork

Gentle movement such as Tai Chi or Qi Gong

Creative expression

Sound and rhythm

Nature immersion

Intentional pauses

These practices stimulate the parasympathetic branch of the nervous system — often called “rest and digest” — allowing the body to shift from survival into restoration.

When safety is restored internally, healing accelerates.

Tea Helps Us Along the Way

As we settle into this conversation, we introduce one of our most relaxing teas, great for daytime and evening, from the Cape Breton Tea Company: “To Be Honest.”

Its guiding affirmation is: “Coming back to my center creates a sense of honesty and integrity that brings everything into focus.”

This blend carries the spiritual essence of lemon balm and orange blossom—plants known for calming the nervous system, softening the heart, and gently restoring clarity and inner truth.
It is the perfect companion for today’s podcast conversation. What will you have in your cup while you listen?

The Role of the Arts in Nervous System Nourishment

One of the most exciting aspects of this conversation is the integration of the arts into regulation. Creative expression is not separate from science — it is supported by it.

Engaging in music, visual art, movement, and storytelling activates multiple neural networks simultaneously. This integration:

Enhances neuroplasticity

Supports emotional processing

Strengthens regulation pathways

Builds resilience

Encourages self-expression without overwhelm

This is the foundation of NeuroArts — the intentional blending of artistic expression with nervous system science.

The Artfilled Wellness Retreat – August

This August, we will be exploring these principles in depth at the Artfilled Wellness Retreat.

Register Here

This immersive experience will guide participants through:

A deeper understanding of nervous system states

Practical regulation techniques

NeuroArts practices to support integration

Movement and somatic awareness sessions

Creative exploration for emotional processing

Restorative experiences designed to nourish and replenish

The retreat is not about doing more.
It is about softening into awareness.

It is about recognizing that growth does not occur through force — it occurs through safety, nourishment, and intentional expansion.

When the nervous system feels supported, creativity returns.
Clarity sharpens.
Energy stabilizes.
And personal growth becomes sustainable rather than exhausting.

A New Way of Listening

The nervous system does not shout.
It whispers — through breath, posture, sensation, fatigue, tension, and intuition.

The conversation with Christine Ruch reminds us that healing begins when we listen.

Not with urgency.
Not with judgment.
But with curiosity and compassion.

As we continue to explore the science of regulation and the power of the arts to support well-being, we invite you to begin noticing:

What is your body telling you today?
Where might it be asking for calm?
Where might it be asking for nourishment?

When we listen, we regulate.
When we regulate, we grow.

And when we grow from a place of safety, transformation becomes sustainable.

The post Listening to the Nervous System first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.

What Are We Actually Measuring?

Much of our healthcare reporting tracks crisis indicators — hospital wait times, bed shortages, surgical backlogs, and costs. These are important. But they measure how we manage illness, not how we cultivate health.

What if we measured:

Community belonging

Participation in arts and cultural life

Time spent in nature

Intergenerational connection

Access to restorative movement and music

These factors influence stress regulation, immune resilience, and long-term disease risk. Yet they are rarely treated as core health metrics.

In Nova Scotia — especially on Cape Breton Island — our music, storytelling, landscape, and cultural gatherings are not just heritage. They are health assets.

If we want different outcomes, we may need to measure different things.

The post Are We Measuring Health — or Just Measuring the Economy? first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.

Rethinking How Canada Defines Wellness

If we want to change healthcare outcomes in Canada, we must first ask a deeper question:

What exactly are we measuring?

Because what we measure shapes what we fund.
What we fund shapes what we value.
And what we value shapes how we live.

Right now, much of Canada’s understanding of “wellbeing” is being guided through economic and productivity lenses rather than lived health realities.

And that may be part of how we got here.

What Do We Know About Canada and Measuring Our Health?

1. The Federal Quality of Life Framework

The Department of Finance is leading Canada’s wellbeing tracking strategy through:

Measuring What Matters: Toward a Quality of Life Strategy for Canada
https://www.canada.ca/en/department-finance/services/publications/measuring-what-matters-toward-quality-life-strategy-canada.html

While this represents progress in broadening the conversation beyond GDP, it is still situated within economic policy structures. Health is viewed as one component within economic stability, productivity, housing, and affordability discussions.

The result?

Health becomes downstream of financial systems rather than foundational to them.

2. The Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW)

Canada does not have a single federally adopted index that defines wellbeing holistically. The most comprehensive independent framework comes from the University of Waterloo:

About the Canadian Index of Wellbeing
https://uwaterloo.ca/canadian-index-wellbeing/about-canadian-index-wellbeing/wellbeing-canada

The CIW includes domains such as:

Community vitality

Democratic engagement

Education

Environment

Healthy populations

Leisure and culture

Living standards

Time use

This is closer to a holistic model — yet it is not the central driver of provincial health funding decisions.

3. How We Measure Time

One striking indicator of how we define health is how we measure time:

Time Use – Canadian Index of Wellbeing National Report
https://uwaterloo.ca/canadian-index-wellbeing/reports/canadian-index-wellbeing-national-report/time-use

Time is categorized largely around:

Paid work

Unpaid work

Caregiving

Personal care

Leisure

But the system does not deeply assess the qualitative impact of:

Cultural participation

Community gathering

Nature immersion

Arts engagement

These are categorized as leisure — not as health infrastructure.

Yet we know that chronic stress, overwork, isolation, and sedentary lifestyles are primary contributors to chronic disease.

4. Measuring Community Wellbeing

Communities can assess themselves through:

Our Wellbeing Survey – Canadian Index of Wellbeing
https://uwaterloo.ca/canadian-index-wellbeing/what-we-do/how-it-works/our-wellbeing-survey

This tool offers promise. It allows municipalities to examine community vitality, belonging, and access to resources.

But again, this is not the core framework used to define provincial healthcare success.

Hospital wait times are measured.
Surgical capacity is measured.
Economic growth is measured.

Belonging, cultural continuity, and nervous system regulation? Not so much.

5. Youth Wellbeing in Canada

For children and youth, we turn to:

Canadian Index of Child and Youth Well-being – UNICEF Canada
https://www.unicef.ca/sites/default/files/2022-07/2019_Baseline_Report_Canadian_Index_of_Child_and_Youth_Well-being%281%29.pdf

This report highlights:

Mental health concerns

Social inequities

Educational outcomes

Risk behaviours

Yet even here, while social determinants are acknowledged, the cultural and community-based protective factors are not deeply integrated into provincial healthcare investment strategies.

6. The Eight Dimensions of Wellbeing

The Okanagan Office of McMaster University outlines:

Eight Dimensions of Wellbeing – McMaster Okanagan
https://okanagan.mcmaster.ca/about-us/eight-dimensions-of-wellbeing/#:~:text=The%20Eight%20Dimensions%20of%20Well%2Dbeing%20include%20physical%2C%20emotional%2C,overall%20health%20and%20well%2Dbeing.

These include:

Physical

Emotional

Social

Spiritual

Intellectual

Occupational

Financial

Environmental

This is a multidimensional model — one that begins to reflect a systems view.

And through:

McMaster Okanagan Initiatives
https://okanagan.mcmaster.ca/initiatives/

we see innovation happening in wellbeing spaces.

But again, these are often institutional initiatives — not embedded at the level of provincial health budget design.

How Did We Get Here?

Over decades, healthcare became synonymous with:

Acute care

Hospital beds

Pharmaceuticals

Diagnostic testing

Surgical intervention

Meanwhile, the upstream determinants of health — culture, belonging, purpose, movement, environment — were categorized as “lifestyle choices.”

The confusion arose because:

We began measuring disease management instead of measuring health creation.

Economic output became easier to quantify than community vitality.

And so our systems evolved accordingly.

The Missing Lens: Quality of Living

If we truly want to change health outcomes in Nova Scotia and across Canada, we must shift from:

Healthcare Delivery
to
Health Creation.

Health is cultivated through:

Community

Culture

Heritage

Arts

Tourism

Nature engagement

Intergenerational connection

On the East Coast, these are not luxuries.
They are our way of life.

Ceilidhs regulate nervous systems.
Storytelling metabolizes grief.
Music synchronizes heart rhythms.
Movement sustains mobility.
Ocean air invites restoration.

Yet none of these are central line items in healthcare budgets.

The Real Question

If provincial governments are using economic-driven wellbeing frameworks to justify health spending, then we must ask:

Are we funding the repair of disease —
or investing in the cultivation of vitality?

Because these are not the same thing.

A Different Formulation for the Future

To redefine healthcare in Nova Scotia, we may need to:

Integrate arts, culture, heritage and tourism into health strategy.

Measure community vitality as a health outcome.

Track social cohesion as immune resilience.

Recognize culture as preventative infrastructure.

Design budgets that reflect quality of living, not just cost of illness.

When we redefine health as coherence — between people, place, purpose, and physiology — we shift from crisis management to vitality cultivation.

Closing Reflection

Canada is not lacking measurement tools.
We are lacking integration.

The frameworks exist.
The data exists.
The research exists.

What is required now is the courage to redefine what counts as health.

Perhaps on Cape Breton Island — where community, culture, music, land, and heritage remain alive — we can model a new formulation. Perhaps the Nova Scotia government would realize the value of rural communities and the programs that provide vitality for the community and its people to thrive.

Not healthcare as repair, but, healthcare as a living expression of who we are.

The post Are We Measuring Health — or Just Measuring the Economy? first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.

Have you ever noticed how certain thoughts or beliefs seem to repeat in your mind, almost on autopilot? These “stories” we tell ourselves—often originating from family patterns, early experiences, or deeply ingrained cultural expectations—can subtly shape our decisions, our confidence, and even our physical well-being. For many, these patterns fuel self-doubt, perfectionism, and what’s commonly referred to as imposter syndrome. But the good news is that these stories are not set in stone. With awareness, intentional practice, and the right tools, we can rewrite them, releasing blocks and opening the way for personal growth and goal realization.

How Our Bodies Hold Self-Doubt

Modern neuroscience and psychophysiology show us that the mind and body are deeply interconnected. Repetitive negative thoughts, such as “I’m not enough” or “I can’t succeed,” create stress in the nervous system and impact our organ systems. Chronic stress can lead to imbalances in the endocrine, digestive, and cardiovascular systems, which in turn affect energy, focus, and emotional regulation. Bioenergetic research suggests that unresolved emotions and repetitive thought patterns can manifest as tension, stiffness, or fatigue in specific regions of the body, effectively “holding” the story of doubt within us.

Fear and self-doubt have always been the greatest enemies of human potential – Brian Tracey

The Science Behind Rewriting Our Stories

Our program, The Stories We Tell Ourselves, integrates several evidence-based methods to address these deeply rooted patterns:

1. The BioEnergetic Wellness Formula
This approach recognizes that the body’s energy systems are not just metaphors—they influence mood, clarity, and action. By identifying areas where energy is blocked or stagnant, we can target specific interventions to restore flow, allowing the body and mind to work in harmony. Research in energy medicine and psychophysiology supports that intentional movements, focused breathing, and mindful awareness can shift these patterns and create measurable improvements in emotional and physical balance.

2. Goal Setting with Flow and Intention
Neuroscience shows that goal setting and visualization activate the prefrontal cortex, improving executive function and decision-making. When combined with the release of self-limiting beliefs and embodied awareness, goal setting becomes more than just a cognitive exercise—it becomes a holistic practice that aligns mind, body, and energy systems, supporting real-world results.

3. Awareness and Activation Practices
Movement-based activations—rooted in Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and bioenergetic techniques—stimulate circulation, nervous system regulation, and somatic awareness. These practices help participants notice where tension and doubt reside in the body, allowing energy to flow and new perspectives to emerge. Studies in somatic therapy suggest that body-focused interventions can accelerate the release of long-held emotional blocks, increasing resilience and confidence.

4. Intuitive Insights
Facilitating with Dr Michelle Greenwell, CIH BioEW, is Theresa Stone, an intuitive medium. She contributes personalized guidance that uncovers hidden aspects of personality and patterns that may be holding participants back. While not purely scientific, research in psychology supports that reflective and externalized perspectives—especially those that provide validation or new insight—can improve self-awareness, decision-making, and emotional regulation.

5. The Power of Journaling
Multiple studies highlight the cognitive and physiological benefits of journaling. Writing about emotions and personal narratives can reduce stress, clarify priorities, and reframe negative beliefs. Journaling helps solidify insights gained from activation exercises and intuitive guidance, making the learning experience both reflective and actionable. How do you move yourself forward with journaling, we will share the best approaches to create that momentum.

Intuition, Art, Frequency, and the Power of What We Create Together

We are delighted to announce that Marian Egan — Complementary Health Advisor & Coach, award-winning author, artist, creator, and international speaker — will be joining us from Ireland for the Cape Breton Island Energy & Arts Immersion Retreat in August 2026.

Register here

Marian brings a rare and deeply integrated perspective to wellness: one that bridges art, intuition, frequency, and embodied self-care. Her work reminds us that creativity is not an “extra” — it is a language through which the body, nervous system, and spirit communicate.

A Collaboration Rooted in Shared Vision

Marian Egan and Dr. Michelle Greenwell first met online at the Knowlative Conference in 2023, and from that meeting a rich collaborative relationship began to unfold. Since then, they have partnered on multiple award-winning and internationally recognized projects, including:

Movement and Music Classes (Award-Winning, 2025)

The Magnifying Peace Project (Award-Winning, 2025)

Symphony of Radiance (2026)

World Mental Health Day Oct 10 (Award-Winning, 2025)

Numerous shared podcast episodes exploring intuition, healing, and creative embodiment

S3 E28 Center your Intuition with Marian Egan and Tanya Levy

S4 E 14 The Power to Heal Yourself with Marian Egan

S5 E3 Releasing Chronic Pain with Marian Egan

Dr Michelle and Marian are currently co-authoring two books exploring the Movement and Music/Symphony of Radiance NeuroArts programs — examining the power behind painting, frequency numbers, layered programming, and the lived experience of intuitive creation.

This retreat marks a rare opportunity to experience this collaborative energy in person, within the land-based, community-centred container of Cape Breton Island.

Marian’s Work: NeuroArts as Self-Care

Marian is the creator of six intuitive card decks, each designed as a NeuroArts tool to support balance, insight, and wellbeing. Her decks combine:

Original artwork

Clear intuitive messages

A unique frequency number that supports energetic resonance

Together, they offer self-care at your fingertips — inviting people to connect with their inner wisdom in moments of stress, pain, or uncertainty.

Her published decks include:

Wisdom, Insight and Foresight

I Dreamed a Dream

Empowered and Thriving

Beyond Transformation

Fifth Dimension

Free to Be Me

Across her work, Marian demonstrates how art can gently reduce pain, regulate the nervous system, and open new pathways of awareness.

What Marian Will Be Offering at the Retreat

During the retreat, Marian will guide participants through two deeply complementary experiences:

Intuitive Painting: Listening to What Emerges

Marian will create a safe, welcoming space for participants to explore the intuitive messages revealed through painting. No artistic background is required. This is about process, not product — allowing colour, form, and movement to express what words often cannot.

Painting becomes a mirror for inner knowing.

Gaining Insights as a Facilitator After Sessions

Drawing on her extensive experience working with clients and groups, Marian will share a powerful and often overlooked aspect of facilitation: what the facilitator receives after the session is complete.

This offering explores how reflection and integration reveal “secret messages” that may otherwise be missed — insights that deepen learning, prevent burnout, and strengthen energetic clarity. While similar ideas exist in Therapeutic Touch documentation, Marian takes this into a much deeper, lived, and embodied dimension.

If you:

work with clients

teach or facilitate groups

hold space for others

or regularly gather in intentional community

…this experience will profoundly enrich how you understand your role within energetic exchanges.

Why This Matters — and Why Now

The Cape Breton Island Energy & Arts Immersion Retreat is about learning together, not performing expertise. It is a space where intuition is honoured, creativity is welcomed, and insight is allowed to unfold naturally.

Marian’s presence brings a vital thread to the retreat:
the reminder that art, reflection, and frequency are essential tools for sustainable self-care and authentic facilitation.

This is not about doing more — it is about listening more deeply.

An Invitation

If you feel drawn to:

intuitive exploration

creative self-care

embodied learning

meaningful collaboration

and a retreat experience that honours both depth and gentleness

…we invite you to join us.

Spaces are limited to preserve intimacy and integration.

As we embark on the third series of Symphony of Radiance, (formerly known as Movement and Music for Well-Being), we find ourselves standing at a remarkable intersection—where Tai Chi, intuitive music, therapeutic sound, energetic art, nature imagery, and intentional tea rituals converge to form a true NeuroArts experience. What began as a movement-and-music exploration has unfolded into a multidisciplinary, whole-person program supporting transformation on the structural, nutritional, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels. This summer, we step even more fully into that vision, preparing the community for a very special retreat experience coming in August.

Each series of Symphony of Radiance has built upon the last, expanding our understanding of how movement, sound, colour, frequency, and intention can shape the body’s internal landscape. In this third series, we continue weaving the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine—particularly the Five Element Theory and the Ko and Shen cycles—with the evidence emerging from neuroscience, psychophysiology, and somatic healing research. The result is an integrative experience that not only teaches practices but cultivates a profound shift in how participants move, breathe, heal, and experience themselves.

Movement as Medicine: Structure, Flow, and Internal Mechanics

At the core of Symphony of Radiance is Tai Chi, offered in both seated and standing forms inspired by Master Moy Lin Shin. These gentle patterns open blocked pathways, enhance circulation, support lymph flow, and create mobility from within. Research on Tai Chi consistently shows improvements in balance, joint stability, proprioception, and autonomic nervous system regulation. It is widely recognized for its ability to reduce chronic pain, increase energy, and calm the mind through rhythmic, coordinated movement.

In this series, we explore deeper layers of the Essence of the Spine—its structural significance, its emotional resonance, and its energetic intelligence. As we realign the spine through movement and music, we influence the fascial network, the vagus nerve, and the bioelectric currents that guide healing at a cellular level. Movement becomes a gateway to resilience.

The Science of Sound, Frequency & Music: A Portal to Cellular Shift

Our collaborative team brings forward some of the most potent research-grounded modalities in healing arts. Sound—whether created through Colin MacLeod’s intuitive musical improvisations, Donna Hutchison’s therapeutic harp frequencies, or Brenda Bowen Cox’s deeply attuned musical therapy—acts as a carrier wave into the nervous system. Studies show that sound vibration can change brainwave activity, balance hemispheric functioning, shift emotional states, and even affect heart rate variability. We have experienced how the entrainment of the music provides an easy transition into the movement patterns, facilitating long-term memory of the patterns.

More recent findings in vibrational medicine demonstrate that frequency influences the crystalline structure of water inside the body, modifies cellular communication, and reorganizes patterns held in muscle memory. Intuitive sound, in particular, creates a responsive relationship between practitioner, participant, and field—allowing the music to match the moment and support the body’s self-regulating intelligence. This is one of the foundational principles of NeuroArts: the body responds to the arts as energetic information.

Colour, Art & the Biofield: When the Unseen Becomes Visible

Colour and visual imagery engage another access point to healing. Energetic artist Marian Egan brings the symbolic language of frequency, archetype, and subtle pattern into each session. Her artworks are not simply illustrations; they are energetic maps that reflect the emotional and spiritual movement of the group. Research in chromotherapy and neuroaesthetics shows that colour impacts emotional regulation, cognitive interpretation, and even endocrine response.

Nature photography by Tanya Levy adds another dimension. Studies in ecopsychology reveal that exposure to images of nature—even virtually—reduces cortisol, lowers blood pressure, and activates the brain’s default mode network in ways that restore the sense of wholeness. These images help participants reconnect to their inner nature, reminding the nervous system what safety and harmony feel like.

The Power of Intention & Nutrition: Tea as a Healing Ritual

This series also includes weekly Tea with Intention, hosted by the Cape Breton Tea Company. Herbal blends offered through sample kits or a full tea set bring forward the nutritional and vibrational gifts of plants. Tea becomes more than a beverage—it becomes a ritual that anchors the body in presence. Research in psychoneuroimmunology shows that intentional practices like mindful sipping can regulate immune function, support digestion, and align emotional and physiological states.

A Journey Toward August: Preparing for a Transformational Retreat

As Symphony of Radiance continues to expand, this third series forms an essential stepping stone toward a powerful, immersive retreat planned for August. While details are still to come, the intention is clear: to bring the full NeuroArts framework into a shared physical space where movement, sound, art, nature, and intention merge into a profound healing experience.

Together, we are exploring what becomes possible when ancient practices and modern research join hands—when Tai Chi meets neuroscience, when art meets vibrational medicine, and when community becomes a catalyst for transformation.

This is more than a class series.
It is a radiant evolution of self, guided by the full symphony of movement, sound, colour, nature, and intention.

There is something deeply restorative about the simple act of fishing. For centuries, people have gone to lakes, rivers, and oceans not just to catch fish, but to find calm, connect with nature, and share meaningful time with loved ones. In our fast-paced world, the ritual of fishing offers a rare gift: the chance to pause, breathe, and be fully present.

Fishing is not measured by the size of the catch, nor by the outcome of the day. Its value lies in the quiet, shared moments where time seems to stand still. The rhythm of casting a line, the gentle sway of the boat, or the reflection of sunlight on still water becomes a form of meditation. In these moments, the mind quiets, the body relaxes, and the nervous system shifts out of stress and into a state of calm.

At the Greenwell Center, we recognize that wellness is not only about exercise, nutrition, or structured routines—it is about creating spaces where the mind, body, and spirit can restore themselves naturally. Fishing is a perfect example of this holistic approach. By immersing ourselves in nature and practicing mindful presence, we engage multiple layers of wellness simultaneously:

Mental Wellness: The focused attention required when fishing—watching the line, reading the water, and anticipating the tug of a fish—promotes mindfulness. Mindfulness has been shown to reduce anxiety, improve mood, and enhance overall mental clarity. It helps us step away from the constant chatter of daily life and find stillness in the present moment.

Emotional Connection: Fishing often provides opportunities for shared experiences. Time with family or friends on the water fosters connection, trust, and communication. These interactions create emotional bonds and a sense of belonging, both of which are essential for long-term emotional wellness.

Physical Wellness: Though it may seem gentle, fishing engages the body in subtle ways. Casting, reeling, and maintaining posture on uneven terrain or a boat strengthens coordination, balance, and fine motor skills. Even moments of quiet reflection outdoors contribute to overall vitality by lowering heart rate and promoting relaxation.

Spiritual Renewal: There is a meditative quality in observing water, listening to the wind, and feeling the rhythm of nature. Fishing encourages us to slow down, reflect, and feel part of something larger than ourselves. This connection to nature fosters spiritual wellness, reminding us that life’s value is found in moments of presence, not merely in outcomes or productivity.

Beyond individual benefits, fishing also teaches us a broader lesson in life: peace and connection are cultivated through patience and attention, not control. Much like wellness itself, it cannot be forced—it grows when we allow space for observation, reflection, and gentle care.

At the Greenwell Center, we encourage practices that cultivate this kind of mindfulness and connection. Activities like fishing, Tai Chi, and mindful nature walks help individuals develop awareness of the present moment while strengthening their ability to respond to life with calm and clarity. These small yet profound practices ripple outward, enhancing relationships, communities, and our collective sense of peace.

Ultimately, fishing reminds us that wellness is not just a personal journey—it is relational and environmental. By taking time to connect with ourselves, each other, and the natural world, we plant seeds of calm, empathy, and harmony. Moments on the water are simple, yet they are powerful teachers: they show us how to live fully, love deeply, and move through life with presence and peace.

Whether you are an experienced angler or simply someone who seeks restorative moments in nature, consider embracing the ritual of fishing as part of your wellness practice. Slow down, listen, breathe, and allow peace to flow from within—and into every aspect of your life.

The post The Healing Power of Fishing: Finding Peace and Presence first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.
