What if wellness was not something we had to chase, achieve or fix?

What if, instead, we could create the conditions that allow us to notice more, move more freely, connect more deeply, become curious about ourselves and discover possibilities we may not have recognized before?

This is at the heart of Art-filled Wellness.

Following our recent eight-day Art-filled Wellness Retreat on Cape Breton Island, I have been reflecting on how to describe what actually happened. We painted and created art. We practiced Tai Chi. We listened and moved to live music. We explored sound, voice, journaling and meditation. We experienced Therapeutic Touch®. We spent time beside the ocean, in gardens, in community spaces and around tables filled with local food. We explored the biofield, movement patterns, perspective, reflection, intention and the ways our bodies respond when we change the conditions around us.

But Art-filled Wellness was never simply a collection of activities.

Something much more interesting happened when those experiences began to interact. Here we are at Doug Fraser’s Art Studio just outside of Inverness, NS in his living sculpture garden.

Wellness as a Living Experience

Art-filled Wellness grows from the perspective of BioEnergetic Wellness (BEW), an approach to wellbeing that asks us to become active participants in recognizing what supports our own organization, adaptability and vitality.

Within BEW, we work with a circular process:

Goal → Intention → Awareness → Activation → Community → Intuition

We may begin with an idea of what we would like to explore, but we do not prescribe what the outcome must be. We create an intention, become aware of what is happening, engage with experiences that offer new information and possibilities, learn with and through others, and become increasingly able to recognize our own intuitive responses.

During the retreat, people did not need to memorize this formula.

They lived it.

Someone might notice that a Tai Chi movement initially felt awkward. Then live music entered the experience and suddenly the movement changed.

Someone might look at a landscape in one way and, after exploring an artist’s perspective, discover something completely different in the same scene.

A journal question might begin as a thought, while sound and frequency later offered a way of reflecting that no longer required words.

A creative image might take on meaning the following day.

A conversation over food might alter how someone understood an experience from earlier that morning.

None of these moments existed in isolation.

That is where Art-filled Wellness becomes particularly interesting.

What Does Art Have to Do With Wellness?

When we use the word art, it is easy to think first about painting, drawing, music or performance.

Art-filled Wellness expands that idea.

Art can be found in the way we move. It can be in the rhythm of preparing tea, the way we listen to another person, the colours we notice while walking, the arrangement of food on a plate, the sound of a voice, the shape our body creates through Tai Chi, or the curiosity we bring to a problem at work.

Art invites us to notice.

And noticing can change our relationship with wellness.

Rather than constantly asking, “What is wrong with me and how do I fix it?”, we can become curious:

What gives me energy?

What changes the way I move?

What helps me feel more like myself?

Where do I experience ease?

What catches my attention?

What becomes possible when I change my perspective?

These are very different wellness questions.

They move us from correction toward discovery.

Here we are at the Glendyer Inn labyrinth. The garden, harp music, and stonework was so inspiring. Eagles and dragonflies joined us too.

Energy and Vitality in Everyday Life

Most people do not wake up in the morning wanting another wellness program.

We want enough energy for the things that matter.

We want to think clearly during a meeting, enjoy a walk, play with our grandchildren, create something, move comfortably, prepare a meal, spend time with friends, contribute meaningfully to our work and still have something left at the end of the day.

That is why vitality matters.

Art-filled Wellness asks us to become more aware of the experiences that influence that vitality.

Perhaps three minutes of music changes the way you prepare for your morning.

Perhaps moving before a difficult conversation changes how you enter it.

Perhaps sitting outside while drinking tea allows you to notice something you could not see while looking at a screen.

Perhaps writing one question in a journal creates a new perspective on a project.

Perhaps making an unfamiliar sound reminds you that your voice can occupy space.

Perhaps walking with someone changes both the conversation and the way your body feels.

None of these needs to be complicated.

The power may lie in learning to notice what changes us.

When the Experiences Begin to Talk to Each Other

One of the most significant discoveries from the retreat was that the experiences did not remain separate.

The musicians responded to the movers.

The movers responded to the music.

Nature influenced art.

Art influenced perspective.

Perspective influenced reflection.

Reflection influenced conversation.

Conversation influenced community.

And community created conditions in which people felt able to explore things they might not have explored alone.

This is why I have begun to think of Art-filled Wellness as a living ecology.

In an ecology, one element influences another. We cannot always isolate a single cause and say, “That was the thing that created the change.”

Human wellbeing may be much more like that than we sometimes acknowledge.

Our movement, environment, relationships, sensory experiences, thoughts, creativity, food, rest, purpose and sense of belonging continually interact.

Art-filled Wellness gives us permission to explore those relationships intentionally.

The Facilitator Does Not Have to Have the Answer

Another important part of this approach is partnership.

An Art-filled Wellness facilitator is not there to decide what another person should discover.

The artist does not need to tell you what you should see.

The musician does not need to tell your body how it should move.

The person asking the reflective question does not need to know your answer.

The facilitator helps create conditions for exploration and then remains curious about what emerges.

That changes the relationship from:

“I have something you need.”

to:

“Let’s discover what becomes possible here.”

It is a subtle shift, but an important one.

It also allows everyone involved—including the facilitator—to remain a learner.

During our retreat, some of the most exciting moments occurred when the people leading experiences discovered something new too.

Art-filled Wellness Is Future-Oriented

There is another aspect of Art-filled Wellness that became increasingly apparent during the week.

We were not only reflecting on who we had been.

We were creating opportunities to discover who we might become.

We began the retreat differently. Rather than introducing ourselves primarily through credentials, occupations, books, techniques or accomplishments, we considered what we hoped to discover and who we might become through our time together.

That changed the room.

For a moment, expertise mattered less than possibility.

Art naturally supports this kind of future orientation because creation brings something into existence that was not there before.

A movement can become different.

A blank page can become an image.

Silence can become music.

A question can become a new direction.

Strangers can become community.

An idea can become an experience.

And a person can begin to recognize possibilities for themselves that they could not see before.

Bringing Art-filled Wellness Home

You do not need an eight-day retreat to begin exploring Art-filled Wellness.

You can start today.

Choose one ordinary activity—making tea, walking, preparing dinner, exercising, attending a meeting or sitting outside.

Instead of moving through it automatically, bring curiosity to it.

Notice colour.

Notice sound.

Notice your movement.

Notice your breath.

Notice what gives you energy and what takes energy away.

Notice what changes when another person enters the experience.

And perhaps ask yourself one question:

What is possible here that I haven’t noticed yet?

You do not need to force an answer.

The noticing is the beginning.

What We Are Still Discovering

Our Art-filled Wellness Retreat did not give us a final definition of wellness.

It gave us better questions.

Over the coming months, I will be sharing some of the remarkable experiences and discoveries that emerged during our time together: changing perspective through art and nature; moving with Tai Chi and live music; intuitive art and future orientation; sound and reflection beyond words; journaling and meditation; Therapeutic Touch®; voice and receiving; community; local food; and what happens when artists, facilitators and participants stop working in isolation and begin discovering together.

We will also explore how these ideas connect with BioEnergetic Wellness and with the growing conversation around arts, health and human flourishing.

Most importantly, I want to explore what all of this can mean beyond a retreat.

What does an art-filled meeting look like?

An art-filled walk?

An art-filled exercise practice?

An art-filled workplace?

An art-filled relationship?

An art-filled day?

Perhaps Art-filled Wellness is ultimately not about adding more things to our lives.

Perhaps it is about learning to experience the lives we already have with greater awareness, curiosity, connection and possibility.

And perhaps that is where energy and vitality begin—not with another demand to become better, but with an invitation to become more fully involved in being alive.

What might become possible if you made a little more room for art in your wellness today?

The post What Is Art-filled Wellness?

Time to Heal

Migraine Wellness: Five Conversations That Can Change the Way You Think About Healing

Migraine Awareness Month reminds us that migraine is far more than a headache. It is a neurological condition that can impact every aspect of life—from work and family to sleep, creativity, and emotional wellbeing.

Throughout this special five-part series on the Be Well with Dr. Michelle Greenwell Podcast, we looked beyond symptom management and explored a broader question:

What helps us create the conditions for healing?

Each guest offered a unique perspective, practical wellness tools, and hope for those living with migraines, headaches, brain fog, or nervous system challenges. Together, these conversations introduce the BioEnergetic Wellness approach—one that empowers individuals with practical self-care tools that complement medical care and encourage lifelong wellbeing.

Whether you are living with migraines yourself, supporting someone who is, or simply seeking greater resilience, this series is an invitation to discover that healing often begins with awareness, intention, creativity, community, and peace.

Meet the Experts

Episode 1 – The Mindful Migraine with Linda

Linda shares her remarkable journey from almost daily migraines to living with significantly fewer episodes through mindfulness, Tai Chi, body awareness, and changing the metaphors she used to describe her health.

The language we use influences how we experience healing.

Awareness of tension is the first step toward change.

Mindfulness and gentle movement help regulate the nervous system.

Episode 2 – Your Migraine Story Matters with Amber Horrox

Amber’s story reminds us that healing is about much more than reducing symptoms. Through writing, storytelling, and self-advocacy, she reclaimed her voice after years of living quietly with chronic migraine.

Your story matters.

Writing can become part of healing.

The BioEnergetic Wellness Toolbox

Across all five conversations, several simple yet powerful tools emerged: awareness and mindfulness, goal setting and intention, storytelling and journaling, Tai Chi and mindful movement, breath awareness, tea rituals, intuitive art and creativity, affirmations and wellness card decks, community and connection, and peace practices.

No single tool works for everyone. Instead, BioEnergetic Wellness invites you to discover the combination of practices that best supports your unique journey.

Your Daily Wellness Toolkit

Take the FREE 30-Day Self-Care Challenge

Healing is built one day at a time. Over the next 30 days, choose one small practice each day to help reduce stress, regulate your nervous system, and build healthy habits that support wellbeing.

Week One – Awareness, Inspired by Linda

Notice your body. Observe your thoughts. Change one limiting metaphor. Practice mindful breathing. Spend time in nature. Become curious rather than critical.

Week Two – Your Story, Inspired by Amber

Begin a journal. Write one page each day. Celebrate your strengths. Practice gratitude. Share your story with someone you trust.

Week Three – Direction, Inspired by Kelly

Reconnect with a dream. Set one meaningful goal. Ask yourself: “What do I want my wellness to help me do?” Take one small step toward that vision.

Week Four – Creativity, Inspired by Tanya & Marian

Draw an affirmation card. Create with colour. Enjoy a mindful cup of tea. Listen to music. Practice intuitive art. Take five quiet minutes for yourself each day.

Days 29 & 30 – Peace, Inspired by Karen

“Let’s Be Peace” is a way of living daily. We can share peace with others, and we can offer it to ourselves. Here are some ways to bring peace into your life: Spend time in stillness. Practice gratitude. Perform one act of kindness for yourself and one for another person. Repeat: “In community we are empowered for change.” Reflect on what has changed during the past month.

Continue Your Wellness Journey

If these conversations inspired you, there are many ways to continue learning. At the Greenwell Center for Holistic Health, you’ll discover on-demand wellness courses, Tai Chi and mindful movement programs, BioEnergetic Wellness education, wellness card decks, intuitive art resources, Cape Breton Tea Company tea rituals, workshops, community events, and the upcoming Artfilled Wellness: Cape Breton Island Energy Arts Immersion Retreat.

Tea Rituals: A Daily Pause for Healing

Throughout this Migraine Awareness Month series, we began each conversation with a mindful tea ritual from the Cape Breton Tea Company, reminding us that healing often begins by simply pausing. Each tea was carefully chosen to reflect the theme of the episode and to encourage a moment of intention before learning. From the calming awareness inspired by Releasing the Warrior, to the courage and possibility found in 1909 First Flight on Baddeck Bay, to the creativity and connection celebrated through our intuitive art conversations, and finally the compassion and hope embodied in Mission4Change CommuniTEA, each cup became an invitation to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with ourselves. More than a beverage, tea became a daily wellness ritual—one that engaged the senses, encouraged mindfulness, and reminded us that small moments of self-care practiced consistently can create meaningful change. By pairing each blend with an affirmation and exploring the spiritual essence of its herbs, we discovered another simple tool within the BioEnergetic Wellness toolbox: creating intentional pauses that support nervous system regulation, resilience, and inner peace, one cup at a time.

An Invitation

Healing rarely happens because of one conversation. It happens through the small choices we make every day: a mindful breath, a cup of tea, a walk, a journal entry, a movement practice, a conversation, or a moment of peace.

As you explore these five episodes, I invite you to discover which tools resonate most with you and begin creating your own personalized wellness toolbox.

Because wellness is more than the absence of illness. It is the ongoing practice of creating a life filled with awareness, purpose, creativity, connection, and peace.

As we continue our focus on Migraine Awareness Month, I find myself reflecting on the many teachers who have influenced the way I approach healing, movement, and wellness. One of those remarkable teachers is Dr. Svetlana Masgutova, whose work in reflex integration has profoundly shaped how I understand the body’s innate healing intelligence.

For those who may not be familiar with her work, Dr. Masgutova has spent decades researching the role of primary reflexes in human development, learning, stress recovery, trauma resolution, and overall well-being. Through her work, we are reminded that the body is not broken—it is constantly seeking balance, adaptation, and homeostasis.

As part of this reflection, I invite you to watch this insightful presentation from Dr. Masgutova:

Video Feature

Dr. Svetlana Masgutova Presentation

Understanding Reflexes Beyond Childhood

Many people think reflexes are only important during infancy. Yet these foundational neurological patterns continue to influence us throughout our lives.

When stress, injury, illness, trauma, or developmental challenges interrupt healthy reflex maturation, the body often creates compensations. These adaptations may help us survive difficult circumstances, but over time they can contribute to:

Chronic tension patterns

Postural imbalances

Sensory overwhelm

Difficulties with regulation

Persistent stress responses

Reduced resilience

Increased vulnerability to symptoms such as headaches and migraines

The body is always attempting to organize itself in the most efficient way possible. Sometimes, however, it becomes stuck in patterns that no longer serve its highest level of functioning.

How Reflex Integration Influences My Tai Chi and Movement Programs

My studies with Dr. Masgutova have become deeply woven into the movement programs I teach through the Greenwell Center.

Whether we are practicing Tai Chi, participating in the Movement and Music Program, exploring the BioEnergetic Wellness Formula, or engaging in community wellness workshops, we are continually working with the body’s natural desire to organize, regulate, and heal.

Tai Chi offers a beautiful environment for reflex integration because it encourages:

Cross-body coordination

Balance and stability

Midline integration

Rhythm and timing

Breath regulation

Relaxed awareness

Nervous system regulation

When movement is approached mindfully, we create opportunities for the brain and body to reconnect pathways that may have become disconnected through stress or trauma.

Over the years, I have witnessed individuals discover improved balance, greater confidence, reduced tension, enhanced focus, and a renewed sense of connection with their bodies through these practices.

Migraines: Listening to the Body’s Priorities

One of the most important lessons I have learned from studying reflexes, neurodevelopment, BioEnergetic Wellness, and complementary health approaches is that symptoms are often part of a much larger story.

A migraine is not simply a headache.

It can represent a complex interaction between physical, neurological, biochemical, emotional, energetic, and environmental factors.

The body continually prioritizes homeostasis—its ability to maintain internal balance. When multiple systems become overwhelmed, symptoms may emerge as signals that something requires attention.

This is why so many people experience frustration with trial-and-error approaches. They may find temporary relief, only to discover the migraines return because the underlying priorities have not yet been identified.

Through approaches such as:

Reflex integration

BioEnergetic Wellness assessments

Tai Chi and mindful movement

Stress regulation techniques

Therapeutic Touch (R)

Touch for Health (R)

Breath and awareness practices

we can begin exploring the body’s priorities more efficiently.

When we understand what the body is asking for first, we often discover opportunities to support recovery more effectively and reduce unnecessary detours along the healing journey.

The Goal Is Not Just Symptom Reduction

While reducing migraine symptoms is important, my hope for every individual is something even greater.

I want people to reclaim their lives.

I want them to return to the activities they love.

I want them to pursue dreams they may have placed on hold.

I want them to discover joy again.

When migraines become less dominant, new possibilities emerge. We begin to ask different questions:

What have I always wanted to learn?

What experiences have I postponed?

What creative gifts am I ready to express?

What would my life look like if I trusted my body again?

These questions shift us from merely managing symptoms to creating a meaningful future.

Looking Ahead: Emotions and Healing

This summer, I am excited to share our upcoming podcast series:

Emotions and Healing

We will explore the fascinating connections between emotional well-being, self-care, resilience, healing, and personal transformation. Our guests, Kate Montgomery, ND and Denise Cambiotti, HCD CIH BioEW, will share practical tools, inspiring stories, and empowering perspectives that support the healing process from multiple angles.

There is so much valuable information available to help us understand ourselves more deeply and participate actively in our own wellness journeys.

Stay tuned as we continue these conversations throughout Summer 2026.

A Final Reflection

The body is always communicating.

Whether through movement, posture, reflexes, emotions, energy, or symptoms such as migraines, there is wisdom waiting to be heard.

By learning to listen with curiosity rather than fear, we create opportunities for healing that honor the whole person.

Thank you, Dr. Masgutova, for the insights and research that continue to inspire practitioners around the world and for helping us better understand the remarkable intelligence of the human body.

Migraine Awareness Month

What if healing isn’t about becoming someone new?

What if healing is about remembering who you were before pain convinced you otherwise?

That question sits at the heart of our latest Be Well with Dr. Michelle Greenwell podcast episode featuring author, educator, advocate, and podcast host Amber Horrox.

Amber’s story is one that resonates deeply with anyone who has lived with chronic illness, persistent pain, or a health challenge that slowly changes the landscape of daily life. After living with migraines for nearly two decades, Amber experienced a dramatic shift in 2018 when migraine became a disabling force that could no longer be pushed aside. Like many people navigating chronic health conditions, she found herself facing difficult questions about identity, purpose, and what it meant to move forward when life no longer looked the way she had planned.

Yet what emerged from that experience was not simply a story of illness.

It became a story of voice.

Audio Version

https://youtu.be/_p7rcc92R8M

When Pain Becomes a Messenger

One of the themes Amber explores through her work is the idea that chronic illness often asks us to listen differently.

Modern culture encourages us to push through discomfort, work harder, and keep moving forward. Yet many people living with migraine discover that these strategies can become exhausting when the body is asking for something else.

Migraine can interrupt plans, careers, relationships, and personal goals. It can create uncertainty and isolation. It can also become an invitation to slow down long enough to hear what has been overlooked.

Amber’s writing reflects this beautifully. Through her platform, Warrior Within, and her podcast, Your Migraine Story Matters, she creates space for honest conversations about the emotional, mental, and physical realities of living with chronic migraine.

Rather than focusing solely on symptom management, Amber encourages people to reclaim their story.

To reclaim their voice.

To recognize that their experience matters.

For many individuals living with invisible illness, being heard can be one of the most powerful forms of healing.

The Power of Storytelling in Recovery

Stories help us make sense of our lives.

When we tell our story, we begin to organize our experiences, identify patterns, and uncover strengths we may not have recognized before.

Research in psychology has long demonstrated that narrative and meaning-making can support resilience during difficult life transitions. Writing, journaling, and sharing our experiences can help reduce feelings of isolation while strengthening self-awareness.

Amber discovered this through her own healing journey.

Writing became more than expression.

It became a bridge back to herself.

As she explored her experiences through words, she found clarity, connection, and ultimately a pathway to helping others navigate similar challenges.

Through her podcast, books, and educational programs, she now helps people discover that their story is not simply a record of pain—it can become a source of empowerment.

The First Flight: A Symbol for Healing

For this podcast episode, we drew inspiration from one of Canada’s most remarkable moments in innovation and courage: the First Flight of the Silver Dart over Baddeck Bay in 1909.

When the Silver Dart lifted from the ice-covered bay, it represented more than a technological achievement.

It represented possibility.

It represented trust in a vision that others could not yet see.

It represented preparation, belief, and collaboration.

Healing often follows a similar path.

Rarely do we see the entire journey ahead.

Instead, we take one step.

One choice.

One conversation.

One supportive practice.

One day at a time.

And slowly, what once felt impossible begins to feel attainable.

Like the Silver Dart, healing requires preparation.

Like the Silver Dart, healing requires belief.

And like the Silver Dart, healing often requires collaboration with others who help us see what is possible.

A Tea Ritual for Courage and Clarity

Every episode of the podcast includes a mindful tea ritual, and for Amber’s conversation we selected a blend inspired by the spirit of the First Flight.

The combination of Pu-erh Tea and Lemon Verbena creates a beautiful balance between grounding and upliftment.

Pu-erh: Rooted Transformation

Pu-erh is an aged and fermented tea that reminds us that healing cannot always be rushed.

It teaches patience.

Integration.

Trust in the process.

Its spiritual essence encourages us to remain grounded while life unfolds around us.

Lemon Verbena: Lightness and Renewal

Lemon Verbena brings brightness to the blend.

Known for its calming and soothing qualities, it offers a gentle reminder that healing can include moments of ease and lightness.

Where Pu-erh roots us, Lemon Verbena helps us lift.

Together they reflect the balance so many migraine sufferers seek: stability and possibility, grounding and hope.

This Episode’s Affirmation

“Preparation, belief, and collaboration provide an aerial focus for success.”

As the tea steeps, we are reminded that healing is not something we force.

It is something we nurture.

Your Migraine Story Matters

One of the greatest gifts Amber offers through her work is the reminder that no one should have to navigate migraine alone.

Whether you are newly diagnosed, have been living with migraines for years, or are supporting someone who experiences them, your experience matters.

Your questions matter.

Your frustrations matter.

Your victories matter.

And your story matters.

Healing is not only about reducing symptoms.

It is also about reconnecting with the person beneath the pain.

It is about rediscovering joy.

Finding community.

Reclaiming confidence.

And learning to trust yourself again.

Learn More

We invite you to listen to this inspiring conversation with Amber Horrox on the Be Well with Dr. Michelle Greenwell podcast.

You can also connect with Amber through:

And if you’re looking for a moment of calm today, brew a cup of tea, take a deep breath, and ask yourself:

What part of my story is ready to be heard?

Because sometimes the first step toward healing is not finding the answer.

Sometimes it is finding your voice.

As this birthday series comes to a close, I find myself sitting with a full heart.

A cup of Nature’s Diamonds tea warming my hands.

A quiet pause.

A deep breath.

And an overwhelming sense of gratitude.

Over these past reflections, I have shared pieces of my journey—lessons learned, moments celebrated, dreams still unfolding.

But if there is one truth that continues to rise to the surface, it is this:

Life is not measured by the years alone.
It is measured by the love shared, the lives touched, the courage shown, the lessons embraced, and the moments we chose to be fully present.

Turning 60 has not felt like reaching an ending.

It has felt like opening a beautifully wrapped invitation.

An invitation to honour where I have been.

To celebrate who I have become.

And to embrace what is still waiting to be created.

Thank You for Walking This Journey with Me

No meaningful story is written alone.

As I reflect on these six decades, I am reminded again and again of the people who have made this journey rich with meaning.

To my family.

To dear friends.

To students who trusted me as their teacher.

To clients who invited me into their healing journeys.

To colleagues, collaborators, podcast guests, retreat participants, tea customers, wellness seekers, and communities near and far—

thank you.

Thank you for your trust.

Thank you for your encouragement.

Thank you for the conversations, the shared laughter, the tears, the discoveries, and the opportunities to grow together.

Some of you have been part of this story for decades.

Some joined more recently.

And every connection has mattered.

This life has been made infinitely richer because of community.

What This Birthday Series Has Reminded Me

Creating these birthday reflections has been a gift in itself.

Sometimes we move so quickly toward what is next that we forget to pause and truly honour what has already been.

This series reminded me:
that resilience often looks quieter than we realize
that reinvention is one of life’s most beautiful gifts
that joy deserves celebration, not postponement
that purpose evolves, deepens, and expands
that tea rituals create sacred space for reflection
that aging can be a season of extraordinary creativity and clarity
that community changes everything

And perhaps most importantly…

That becoming is lifelong.

Some of My Favourite Gifts from Life So Far

Not material gifts.

But the ones that truly endure.

The privilege of movement.

The joy of teaching.

The discovery that healing takes many forms.

The ability to blend science with intuition.

The wonder of creating tea experiences that nourish body, mind, and spirit.

The breathtaking beauty of Cape Breton.

The gift of meaningful conversations.

The courage to pivot.

The wisdom that comes from listening more deeply.

The privilege of witnessing transformation in others.

The understanding that wellness is not perfection—it is relationship.

Relationship with self.
With community.
With nature.
With purpose.
With possibility.

A Love Letter to My Younger Self

If I could sit across from my younger self with a cup of tea, I might say this:

You do not need to have it all figured out.

The detours will make sense someday.

Your sensitivity is not a weakness.

Your curiosity will become one of your greatest gifts.

The moments that challenge you will shape your compassion.

You are allowed to evolve.

You are allowed to rest.

You are allowed to change your mind.

You are allowed to dream bigger than what others understand.

And no matter how uncertain the road may feel—

keep going.

There is beauty waiting that you cannot yet imagine.

What Comes Next

If the first 60 years have taught me anything, it is that life remains beautifully full of possibility.

So what comes next?

More learning.

More connection.

More movement.

More tea.

More conversations.

More retreats.

More teaching.

More creativity.

More collaboration.

More opportunities to support others in discovering their own capacity for healing, resilience, and joy.

The next chapter will not be about doing more for the sake of doing more.

It will be about creating with intention.

Leading with heart.

Choosing alignment.

And staying open to the unexpected invitations life continues to offer.

My Invitation to You

If you have been reading along, watching the videos, sharing a cup of tea with me, or simply reflecting on your own journey through this series—thank you.

And now, I would love to invite you into the next chapter with me.

Perhaps that means:
joining a class or retreat
discovering a new tea ritual
listening to the podcast
exploring wellness tools for stress, movement, and resilience
connecting through the blog community
simply taking a mindful pause for yourself today

Whatever your next step is, may it be one chosen with care.

One Final Reflection

Before we close this birthday series, I invite you to pause with your own cup of tea and ask:

What am I most grateful for?
What version of myself deserves appreciation?
What chapter am I ready to begin?
What joy am I ready to make space for?

Because no matter where you are in your journey—

there is still more life to live.

More love to give.

More beauty to create.

More wisdom to uncover.

Steep with me for a moment…

There is something wonderfully liberating about reaching a stage of life where clarity begins to outweigh urgency.

Turning 60 does not feel like an ending.

It feels like an opening.

A threshold.

A beautifully intentional invitation into what comes next.

For so much of life, we are building.

Learning.
Working.
Growing.
Responding.
Creating foundations.

And while all of that continues, there is a different kind of wisdom that begins to emerge with time.

A knowing.

A deeper trust in what matters.

A willingness to say yes more clearly—and no more gracefully.

As I sip a cup of Nature’s Diamonds tea, I find myself less focused on what I have done, and more inspired by what I am still here to create.

Because I believe some of our brightest chapters are not behind us.

They are waiting for our full attention.

Redefining What 60 Means

There are many stories society tells us about aging.

That life slows down.
That possibilities become smaller.
That dreams should become quieter.
That we have somehow “arrived” at a point where growth is no longer expected.

I disagree.

If anything, I feel more curious now than ever.

More aligned.

More intentional.

More connected to purpose.

Aging, to me, is not about diminishing.

It is about refinement.

The clarity to choose what truly matters.
The wisdom to protect your energy.
The confidence to trust your lived experience.
The freedom to create from authenticity rather than expectation.

This next decade is not about winding down.

It is about expanding into a deeper version of what feels meaningful.

What I Want to Create

One of the greatest gifts of reflection is discovering that there is still so much to dream into being.

And dreams, at any age, deserve action.

As I step into this next decade, I feel called to continue creating spaces where healing, education, movement, and self-empowerment can flourish.

That may look like:
deeper retreats and immersive wellness experiences
expanded online learning opportunities
more teaching in Touch for Health, Tai Chi, and movement mastery
continued podcast conversations that inspire possibility
collaborative global conversations around wellness and resilience
more writing, storytelling, and educational resources
continued growth for the Cape Breton Tea Company
creating meaningful experiences where tea, movement, nature, and wellbeing intersect

The vision is not about doing more simply to stay busy.

It is about creating what feels aligned.

Intentional.

Nourishing.

Meaningful.

The Legacy of Empowerment

Legacy can sound like such a big word.

But perhaps legacy is simply what remains in the lives we touch.

The conversations that shifted perspective.

The classes that created confidence.

The tools someone continued using long after the session ended.

The reminder that healing is possible.

The permission to trust oneself.

If there is one thing I hope to continue creating, it is empowerment.

Helping people reconnect with their own inner wisdom.

Their resilience.

Their body’s communication.

Their creativity.

Their ability to move through stress with more grace and awareness.

Their sense that they are not broken—but beautifully adaptable.

If the next decade deepens anything, I hope it is this.

Continuing to Learn

One of the most exciting things about this chapter is recognizing that learning never truly ends.

There are still books to read.

Conversations to have.

Techniques to explore.

Collaborations to create.

Perspectives to expand.

Adventures to say yes to.

I think curiosity may be one of the most underrated wellness practices.

Curiosity keeps us mentally flexible.

Emotionally engaged.

Open to possibility.

Youthful in spirit.

I want to continue learning—not because I need to prove anything, but because discovery brings joy.

Living with Greater Intention

One of the quiet shifts I feel in this decade is a stronger commitment to intentional living.

To asking:
What nourishes me?
What drains me?
What truly matters?
What feels aligned?
What no longer belongs?

This is a beautiful stage of life for simplification.

For clarity.

For releasing obligations that no longer fit.

For creating more space for joy, health, meaningful relationships, movement, creativity, and restorative pauses.

Not because life becomes easier.

But because wisdom helps us choose differently.

Tea, Ritual & Presence

Tea will absolutely remain part of this next chapter.

Not simply because I love tea—but because I love what tea represents.

Pause.

Connection.

Ritual.

Presence.

Hospitality.

Healing.

A simple cup can create an extraordinary moment.

A conversation.

A breath.

A reset.

Nature’s Diamonds feels especially symbolic in this season.

A reminder that brilliance is not something we achieve once.

It continues to be revealed.

Dreams Still Waiting

There are still dreams waiting patiently.

Projects not yet born.

Places I’d love to visit.

Experiences I want to create.

Conversations I hope to host.

People I hope to collaborate with.

Moments of beauty I have not yet imagined.

And perhaps the most exciting realization is this:

I do not need to have every detail figured out.

Only the willingness to keep listening.

An Invitation Into Your Next Chapter

As I celebrate this birthday, I want this conversation to be about more than my own next decade.

I want it to be an invitation for you, too.

No matter your age.

No matter your current season.

Ask yourself:

What am I still dreaming about?
What have I postponed that still matters?
What do I want this next chapter to feel like?
Where am I being invited to begin again?

Because becoming does not end.

Growth does not expire.

Purpose does not have an age limit.

And some of our most brilliant chapters begin when we finally choose them fully.

With anticipation and gratitude,
Dr. Michelle Greenwell

Steep with me for a moment…

There is something powerful about reaching a milestone birthday.

Not because of the number itself, but because of the perspective it offers.

Turning 60 has invited me into reflection, yes—but even more deeply, it has invited me into celebration.

Not the kind of celebration that lasts for one evening.

But the kind that honours the journey.

The moments that shaped us.
The dreams that carried us.
The courage it took to begin again.
The people who walked beside us.
The quiet victories no one else saw.
The laughter.
The healing.
The becoming.

As I sip a warm cup of Nature’s Diamonds tea, I find myself feeling deeply grateful for every chapter that brought me here.

Because every version of ourselves deserves to be celebrated.

Celebrating the Younger Self

I often think about the younger version of me.

The girl who loved movement.
The dreamer who believed creativity could change lives.
The young entrepreneur opening Dance Debut in Alberta in 1988 with passion, vision, and determination.
The woman who said yes to opportunities before knowing exactly how everything would unfold.

At times, we look back at our younger selves and only see what we would do differently.

But what if we paused instead to honour her courage?

She didn’t have all the answers.
She didn’t know where every road would lead.
Yet she kept moving forward anyway.

And perhaps that is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves as we age:
compassion for who we were while celebrating who we were becoming.

Celebrating Courage

There are many kinds of courage.

Sometimes courage looks bold and visible.

And sometimes courage looks like quietly continuing when life feels uncertain.

Over the years, courage has shown up in many forms:
starting over
relocating across the country
following intuition
stepping into leadership
trusting unconventional paths
continuing to learn
sharing vulnerable stories
creating new programs and collaborations
saying yes to possibility

There were moments when the path ahead felt unclear.

Moments where I questioned whether I was doing enough, being enough, or moving in the right direction.

But life has taught me that courage is rarely the absence of fear.

It is choosing to keep moving with purpose anyway.

Celebrating the Pivots

One of the most beautiful things about life is that we are allowed to evolve.

The journey from dance to Tai Chi…
From teaching movement to exploring bioenergetic wellness…
From academic studies to holistic healing…
From wellness education to tea rituals and podcast conversations…

None of these were separate chapters.

They were connected threads.

Each experience expanded the next.

Each pivot revealed another layer of purpose.

Sometimes we think changing direction means we failed at the original plan.

I no longer believe that.

I believe pivots are often signs of growth.

An invitation to deepen.
To realign.
To listen more closely to what truly lights us up.

And often, the things we once viewed as detours become some of the most meaningful parts of our story.

Celebrating Community

No meaningful life is built alone.

When I reflect on these 60 years, one of the things I treasure most is the incredible community that has surrounded me.

Students.
Teachers.
Clients.
Colleagues.
Collaborators.
Friends.
Family.
Podcast guests.
Retreat participants.
Tea lovers.
Wellness seekers.

So many beautiful souls have contributed to this journey.

Some offered encouragement exactly when it was needed most.

Some shared wisdom that changed my perspective forever.

Some trusted me with their healing journeys.

Some simply showed up consistently with kindness and support.

To all of you who have attended a class, listened to a podcast, shared a cup of tea, participated in a retreat, collaborated on a project, or simply followed along on this journey—thank you.

You have helped create a life rich with meaning and connection.

Celebrating Tea Rituals

Some of life’s greatest moments happen quietly.

A pause.
A breath.
A sunrise.
A conversation.
A warm cup held between two hands.

Tea has become one of my favourite ways to celebrate presence.

Not just the flavours or aromas—but the ritual itself.

The invitation to slow down.
To reconnect.
To nourish.
To listen inwardly.

Creating the Cape Breton Tea Company has been one of the most joyful and creative chapters of my life.

Each blend carries intention.
Story.
Energy.
Connection.

And for this diamond celebration, Nature’s Diamonds tea feels especially meaningful.

A reminder that brilliance is formed over time.

That life refines us.

That there is beauty in becoming.

Favourite Moments Along the Way

As I look back across the years, certain moments shimmer brightly in memory.

Opening my first dance studio
Watching students grow in confidence
Teaching internationally
Collaborating with incredible wellness leaders
Creating retreats and community experiences
Recording meaningful podcast conversations
Building the Greenwell Center for Holistic Health
Launching the Cape Breton Tea Company
Walking along Cape Breton shorelines
Witnessing transformation in others
Continuing to learn and grow myself

And perhaps most importantly…

The countless simple moments that often matter most:
shared laughter,
deep conversations,
music,
nature,
friendship,
movement,
and quiet moments of gratitude.

A Celebration Beyond Birthdays

This birthday has reminded me that celebration does not need to wait for milestones.

There is always something worthy of honouring.

Your healing.
Your resilience.
Your growth.
Your creativity.
Your courage to keep going.

Even the smallest steps forward deserve acknowledgment.

So often we move quickly from one goal to the next without pausing to recognize how far we have already come.

Today, I invite you to celebrate yourself too.

Not only for what you have accomplished—
but for everything you have survived, learned, created, and become.

An Invitation to Celebrate

As we continue this birthday series together, I would love to ask you:

What are you celebrating in your life right now?
What chapter deserves more acknowledgment?
What version of yourself would you like to honour today?

Pour yourself a cup of tea.
Pause for a moment.
And celebrate the beautiful journey that is uniquely yours.

Steep with me for a moment…

There are birthdays that quietly arrive… and then there are birthdays that invite reflection.

Turning 60 feels like one of those invitations.

A diamond birthday.

A milestone that speaks not only to time passed, but to what has been created through that time—through pressure, transformation, resilience, and grace.

As I prepared a cup of Nature’s Diamonds tea, a blend created to honour this moment, I found myself reflecting on the many versions of myself that have existed across these six decades. The young dreamer. The dancer. The teacher. The entrepreneur. The researcher. The healer. The woman who has fallen down, gotten back up, reinvented herself, and kept following the quiet inner knowing that there was always more to learn, more to share, and more to become.

Like a diamond, none of us become brilliant overnight.

We are shaped by life.

And when we pause long enough to look back, we often realize that some of our greatest gifts were formed in the moments we least expected.

The Courage to Begin

When I opened Dance Debut in Alberta in 1988, I was following a passion for movement, creativity, and education. At the time, I could not have fully imagined where that path would lead.

Dance was never simply about choreography.

It was about expression.
Confidence.
Community.
The connection between body, mind, and spirit.

Over the years, that understanding deepened. What began through dance evolved into broader explorations of movement, Tai Chi, complementary and integrative health, psychology, bioenergetic wellness, and teaching people how to better understand and care for themselves.

Life rarely unfolds in straight lines.

And I’ve learned that our calling often reveals itself through curiosity, one brave step at a time.

The Body Has Always Been Speaking

One of the greatest lessons life has offered me is this:

The body is always communicating.

So often, we view discomfort, fatigue, stress, illness, or pain as interruptions to our plans.

Yet over the years—through my own experiences and the thousands of people I have worked with—I have come to see symptoms differently.

Sometimes the body is not working against us.

Sometimes it is asking us to listen.

Stress has a language.
Emotions have a language.
Movement has a language.
Stillness has a language.

The body remembers what the mind tries to move past.

And healing often begins not with force—but with awareness.

Reinvention is a Lifelong Practice

There is a curious story many people tell themselves about aging.

That at some point, growth slows.
Dreams become smaller.
Possibilities narrow.

I have not found that to be true.

If anything, each decade has invited greater clarity.

Dance opened the door.
Tai Chi deepened awareness.
Research sharpened curiosity.
Tea created ritual.
Podcasting opened new conversations.
Community collaborations created extraordinary opportunities for connection.

Reinvention has not meant becoming someone different.

It has meant becoming more fully myself.

And perhaps that is what healthy aging truly offers us.

Not less.

But more authenticity.

Nature Has Been One of My Greatest Teachers

Living in Cape Breton, nature is impossible to ignore.

The changing tides.
The steady trees.
The shifting seasons.
The winds that reshape the landscape.

Nature reminds us that growth is cyclical.

That rest is not failure.
That shedding can be necessary.
That storms pass.
That roots matter.

Some seasons are about blooming.

Others are about becoming stronger underground.

Tea rituals have become one of the ways I stay connected to that wisdom.

The simple act of boiling water, steeping herbs, inhaling aroma, and pausing to breathe creates a return to presence.

A reminder that nourishment can be beautifully simple.

Community Changes Everything

No one reaches 60 alone.

Every chapter of life carries the fingerprints of teachers, family, colleagues, students, clients, collaborators, and friends.

There are people who believed in me before I fully believed in myself.

People who challenged me.
Inspired me.
Walked alongside me.
Trusted me with their stories.
Shared their healing journeys.
Created unforgettable moments of laughter and learning.

To each of you—thank you.

Your presence has helped shape this journey in more ways than you know.

The Diamond Perspective

Diamonds are formed through time, pressure, and transformation.

Perhaps that is why this milestone feels so meaningful.

Because life has not been without challenge.

There have been uncertainties.
Transitions.
Moments of exhaustion.
Questions without immediate answers.
Unexpected redirections.

And yet, looking back, I can see beauty in what was being shaped.

Not because every moment was easy.

But because every moment offered something.

Wisdom.
Strength.
Compassion.
Perspective.

An Invitation to Reflect

As I begin this birthday series, I invite you to join me in reflection.

Pause with your own cup of tea.

Ask yourself:

What has life taught me so far?
What challenges helped shape my strength?
What parts of myself have evolved?
What wisdom am I ready to honour?

Because no matter your age, your story is still becoming.

And perhaps, like a diamond, some of your most beautiful brilliance has been quietly forming all along.

With gratitude,
Dr. Michelle Greenwell

I am deeply honoured to share that I have been named a Top 5 finalist for the Legacy Builder Award with the Authority Awards.

To be recognized alongside such an inspiring international group of leaders is both humbling and meaningful. This acknowledgement is more than a personal milestone — it is a reflection of the many conversations, collaborations, and shared visions that continue to shape the work I am so passionate to bring forward.

Since returning to school in 2014 to deepen my studies in health and wellness, this journey has been one of tremendous growth, discovery, and purpose. What began as a commitment to better understand the body’s remarkable capacity to heal has evolved into a rich and rewarding path of research, program development, community engagement, and international collaboration.

Over the past decade, I have had the privilege of building systems, programs, and conversations that support wellbeing through education, embodied awareness, and practical self-care. At the heart of this work is a simple but powerful intention: to help people better understand their bodies, reconnect with their own healing capacity, and build sustainable tools for wellbeing in everyday life.

That intention continues to guide my work through CanBeWell, where our focus remains on creating accessible, meaningful wellness education and experiences that help individuals and communities build stronger self-care toolboxes. Through CanBeWell, we continue to explore how movement, music, mindfulness, and embodied awareness can support resilience, regulation, and long-term wellbeing.

This same philosophy also shapes the evolution of Marathon Jam — a growing initiative rooted in healing through music, movement, and therapeutic connection. What began as a creative gathering has continued to evolve into a deeper exploration of how music and movement can support healing, nervous system regulation, resilience, and restoration. Marathon Jam is helping to create new conversations around trauma-informed care, therapeutic arts, and the power of embodied community healing.

These projects, along with my ongoing work in education and facilitation, are all connected by one core belief: when we create spaces for meaningful conversation, intentional collaboration, and embodied experience, we help people build the tools they need to care for themselves and one another more effectively.

This has also been beautifully reflected through Be Well with Dr Michelle Greenwell, now entering Season 6. The podcast has become a meaningful space for rich conversations, practical insight, and shared learning. Each episode is designed to offer listeners thoughtful tools, new perspectives, and accessible strategies to strengthen their self-care toolbox and support wellbeing in daily life. It has been a joy to explore these conversations with guests from around the world, each bringing their own wisdom, experience, and perspective on healing and resilience.

This past weekend, we were also delighted to celebrate World Tai Chi and Qigong Day — a global event dedicated to raising awareness about the benefits of Tai Chi and Qigong for health and wellbeing. It was a meaningful opportunity to gather in community, share movement, and highlight the many ways these practices support balance, resilience, mobility, and nervous system regulation.

This year, that work feels especially significant as we continue to focus on creating a Blue Zone-inspired culture of wellbeing in our community through Tai Chi. By bringing greater awareness to gentle movement, social connection, nervous system health, and sustainable wellbeing practices, we are helping to foster the kind of everyday habits that support longevity, vitality, and community wellness for generations to come.

To be recognized as a finalist for the Legacy Leader Award is a true honour, and one that I receive with deep gratitude.

Thank you to Michelle Abraham and everyone involved with the Authority Awards for this recognition and for your confidence in the work I am so privileged to do.

This acknowledgement is not simply a celebration of what has been built — it is an invitation to continue.

To continue creating conversations.
To continue building collaborations.
To continue exploring the body’s capacity to heal.
To continue offering tools that help others build stronger, wiser, and more compassionate self-care practices.

For that opportunity, I am truly grateful.

The post Honoured to Be Named a Finalist for the Legacy Builder Award first appeared on Greenwell Center for Holistic Health.

Season 5 Finale – Be Well with Dr. Michelle Greenwell podcast

As we close out Season 5 of Be Well with Dr. Michelle Greenwell, we arrive at a powerful and deeply personal theme—the voice. Not just as a tool for communication, but as a pathway to healing, expression, and transformation.

In this final episode, we are honoured to welcome Karen Novy, a vocal empowerment coach, NLP practitioner, author, and workshop facilitator whose work centers on helping individuals reclaim their voice and step fully into their authentic selves.

Karen’s journey as a breast cancer survivor has shaped her understanding of healing in profound ways. Through her work, she reminds us that our voice is not something external to refine—it is something internal to rediscover. It carries our truth, our story, and our capacity to transform.

The Voice as Medicine

So many of us move through life with a quieted voice—held back by past experiences, self-doubt, or the fear of being seen and heard. Yet, when we begin to explore our voice—whether through sound, tone, or expression—something shifts.

The body softens.
The breath deepens.
The mind quiets.

And in that space, we begin to reconnect with who we truly are.

Karen speaks to the first moment someone discovers their authentic tone—a moment often filled with lightness, surprise, and even joy. It is as though something long hidden has finally been given permission to emerge.

Your voice is not just sound.
Your voice is your medicine.

A Tea to Awaken Memory and Expression

In this episode, we paired our conversation with Sweet Memories, a blend inspired by family, legacy, and love from Creignish, Nova Scotia and Peggy Burke at the Studio Store.

This special Cape Breton Tea Company blend, with the gentle sweetness of strawberry and the grounding richness of black tea, invites reflection and connection.

Strawberry, with its heart-centered energy, encourages compassion, emotional openness, and the sweetness of cherished memories.

Black tea offers grounding and strength, supporting clarity, courage, and the confidence to express one’s truth.

Together, they create a sensory experience that mirrors the journey of finding your voice—soft yet strong, reflective yet empowering.

An Invitation to Experience It for Yourself

This conversation doesn’t end with the episode—it continues in community.

We invite you to join us for the 2nd Annual Healing Through Music and Movement Event hosted by Marathon Jam:

April 18, 2026
FREE Event
Register here: https://www.marathonjam.org/htm

This immersive day is designed to support veterans, first responders, caregivers, professionals, and community members in exploring tools to release trauma and build resiliency.

Participants will have the opportunity to work with an incredible team of facilitators:

Karen Novy – Vocal exploration and authentic expression

Lynn Koonce – Music, Vocal and Creative healing practices

Matthew Seymour – Music and experiential engagement

Colin MacLeod – Music and connection

Michelle Greenwell – Movement, energy, and integrative wellness

Through music, movement, voice, and creative expression, you will be guided into a space of belonging—where healing can begin, and transformation can unfold. It is a true pleasure for Michelle to be working with such incredible NeuroArts specialists in their field.

The Power of Belonging

One of the most profound aspects of this work is the sense of community that emerges.

When we give ourselves permission to be heard, we also begin to hear others more deeply.
When we express, we connect.
When we connect, we heal.

Events like this remind us that we are not alone in our experiences—and that healing is not something we have to navigate in isolation.

Continue the Journey

Closing Season 5… Opening Season 6

As we close Season 5, we reflect on the many pathways to wellness we have explored—through movement, energy, nature, and now, the voice.

And as we step into Season 6, we carry forward a powerful reminder:

Your voice is a magical part of who you are.
To claim it, to explore it, and to enjoy its resonance… is a beautiful life journey.

Let this be your invitation—
To listen inward…
To express outward…
And to trust that your voice matters.

Be well, and we’ll see you in Season 6.
